SSTO (plane/rocket) is still a thing I haven't accomplished. I can get myself to ~ 1400 m/s at the height of 20km. Then I fire up the aerospikes and climb up to 70km. However, I never have enough fuel left to circularize my orbit. Maybe I should try other players' designs and see if I can fly them.

Are you going to start a fresh save file come 0.20?
Karriz replied to michaelphoenix22's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'll definitely start from scratch, as mods will break my save for sure. I'll try to keep my new save more organized and install less mods. Maybe I'll go "hardcore mode" with FAR, deadly re-entry and life support mod. -
If we were able to reverse engineer the brain and put someone's consciousness into a computer or another body, I think it'd still count as a "person". So it's not tied to the body. Instead it's the collection of memories and brain processes, which just happen to be in the form of brain cells. And if you create two copies of the same person, both copies would have the exact same memories of the time before the copying. They would just grow as different people from that point onwards.

Well yeah, 1g would of course be optimal, but it requires a really big station to reduce the coriolis effect. I'm not sure what would become the "standard" amount of gravity. Stations on the orbit of Mars would probably not use 1g, because they need to be suitable for people who come from the surface. However, a gigantic ring station orbiting the Earth would probably keep 1g.

I don't think humans in space will be permanently living in zero-G in the future- it's simple enough to create an artificial gravity centrifuge. Of course, the gravity will be lower than 1g, so supposedly people living in space stations and other planets/moons will have a different body shape. Maybe they would be taller and thinner.

2018 - a large asteroid is discovered to be in a collision course with Earth, impact predicted for 2020. 2019 - despite having the resources and technology to change the asteroid's course, humans don't do anything because "there's not enough money". "I mean, it's the only reason to do anything at all, right?" I would not be surprised if something like this happens. But okay, let's be a bit more optimistic. 2018 - first commercial space station (Bigelow, SpaceX) 2019 - Orion spacecraft tested in deep space 2021 - NASA mission to an asteroid 2027 - China lands on the Moon 2030 - commercial Mars mission 2070 - large colonies on Moon and Mars, gas giant moons explored 2175 - humans arrive at Proxima Centauri Well, I hope I get to see some interesting stuff in my lifetime.

Everyone plays the game in a different way. I like flying by manually, however docking is so incredibly tedious that I let Mechjeb handle it after I've rendezvoused. Landings are one of the most fun things in this game, but I understand the need of mechjeb if you're for example building a massive base. However, I think new players will get most of the fun out of the game if they play it without mods at first, to achieve an orbit and a Mun landing. It just feels so good.
-
I think he means X-37B. Isn't it an military project? Anyways, it definitely looks and works like a space shuttle.
-
Docking can indeed take two hours. Sure, rendezvousing is fairly easy, but getting the docking ports to align perfectly is another thing. I usually do the rendezvous myself, but let Mechjeb do the rest, even though it uses a ridiculous amount of monopropellant. I felt a bit guilty when I once used the landing autopilot. I was targetting a Kethane depot, but later on I figured how to make precise landings manually.

Well, that's why I've never seen any rocks. I suppose I have to turn the setting on, even if it lowers my FPS. However, what if a rock appears inside my Mun base when I load up the game? Do things go boom?
-
Over 500 parts, takes about 10 minutes. I just alt-tab out and do something else while the game is loading. Hopefully 0.20 will optimize the process a bit. I have too many mods which I never use, though.

Eve. My first rover had enough fuel to get to an orbit around it, but not enough for deorbiting. My second attempt could actually land. At first it looked like I was going to fall into sea, but luckily there was a tiny island. I also have six Kerbals on Duna, living in command modules. And one rover on Laythe. All my interplabetary missions have been one-way so far, but I'll attempt a Duna return trip soon, if I can assemble a big enough ship.

There are many docking tutorials, you may want to check them out. Set the desired target in the map view. Then, get the ascending/descending nodes to zero, so that you're on the same orbital plane. After that, get to an orbit that gets a close intersect with the target orbit. You can see these in the map view, if you've set the target. You'll probably have to time accelerate until you get close enough, 1km or less. After that you just burn retrograde relative to your target, and there you are, floating next to it. Then you just dock. Trial and error, basically. It can be frustrating.

Only ships within 2,5 km are loaded, otherwise they're just showing up as a map marker that shouldn't cause lag.

A few questions on Geostationary Orbit
Karriz replied to Limited Infinity's topic in KSP1 Discussion
There are the numbers you need to know for a... erm... Kerbostationary orbit? http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Kerbin There's no orbital decay that far up. In fact there's none above 70km. -
KSP vanilla should of course stay weapon-free, because they're not needed and they don't fit the style. However, I don't understand why weapon mods would bother anyone? It's a sandbox game, so I'd expect to have endless possibilities.
-
I try to avoid mods which just add new parts I don't really "need". KSPX is probably the only parts pack I've got. Other mods I have add some functionality, like kethane, cargo bays, robot arms etc. The optimization is the main limit for me, as my 4GB RAM gets quickly filled. Hopefully 0.20 will help, since it'll.load parts more efficiently.

Love the game, I really do, but I cannot afford it.

Can you use Paypal, or is it not supported either? -
I use it for information. It's good to see apoapsis/periapsis without the map screen. I did uÅŸe the landing autopilot once. I've also tried the ascend autopilot, but it just breaks my rockets.
-
How does the "stage only" view work in the resource menu? Sometimes it shows nothing at all, even if I'm using the engines.
-
I tried it, seems to work fine. You place the red and green ports to the opposite sides and use them like RCS.

Kethane Pack 0.9.2 - New cinematic trailer! - 1.0 compatibility update
Karriz replied to Majiir's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I'm a bit confused with the converter unit. Am I supposed to place the fuel tanks directly on it? I've got some RCS tanks radially attached to it, and the monopropellant conversion works fine. However, there are some liquid fuel tanks under those RCS tanks, and I cannot seem to get the conversion working for them.
