would it be possible to make the omni antennas physicsless? i believe the mass of physicals parts os now added to the attached part, so it shouldn't be a balancing issue, nd i prefer to not have to have more than one omni antenna on my tiny probe...

does ksp allow you to add controls to its keybinding list? if so, how hard would it be to add controls for this mod to the list? if not, is a keybind.cfg out of the question? Edit: also, in response to some of the other requests on this page, would it be to much to ask to have a control panel with key binds, maneuver limits and other things on there? (by maneuver limits i mean things like turn rate, max rate of climb, ETC.) -

coluld you be any change change the pause button to the ~ key? or at least add an option for it? I'm on a mac and therefore have to use tab for fine controll. (caps lock is reserved by the OS.) -

no name changing. you have to merge the folders manual. name changing is a big no no. the USI mods go into the USI folder, everything else just goes free floating in the game data. (by usi mods i mean carbonate, k+, warp drive, exploration pack, and some others. ART and the mod dependencies are free floating.) -

well, been messing around with ATM, and it works to a point. still have to count the number of times i can load or save a vehicle before the next crash... -
maybe go back to novasilsko and put a full dev team os science of the spheres?

same here. I've got atm on full with 8x texture reduction, still crashes after an hour or so. mac with 20 mods.

there is no 32x version. the other one is 86x. i have the feeling that those numbers don't have to do with the bit versions. (if thats what you call them) - - - Updated - - - well, just saw the thread below me, i guess it probably is memory. don't trust activity monitor. trying ATM 86x now. -

using 64x aggressive version, and it was using 1.3 gigs when it crashed (i still had 3 gigs of room on my machine.) ill try the 86x aggressive, though. -

i think that the game has been ready for a while, but i am slightly fearful of the steam reviews, as once it is fully released, they can blame everything on squad. when people go buy a game, the expect everything to work perfectly when they first load it up. i do not think that it would be a good idea to publicly release it as finished before at least doing possibly an opt in beta? (using the steam dev releases features) and seeing what problems our modern can find. -

yup, this seems to be very buggy in career, for example, launched a craft, returned to the space centre, and there was the craft on the launchpad. (before that, during the testing phase, if i lqaunched than reverted to the VAB, it would create a duplicate of the craft on the launchpad for free, meaning i now have several thousand more funds before i realized that i was getting funds from it. (it was a cheap craft, but it was unreliable to say the least...) -
how am i running out of memory on a clean install??

while trying to get my mods to install, I've been constantly fighting crashes. this was on a stock install, but mods had been recently installed (although i had reinstalled squad and nasa mission, by deleting them and then teling steam to redownload.) anyway, got a crash. ksp.log here: http://pastebin.com/MyDTXh6g as you can see, there still seem to be some module manager edits applied to the parts. this is after freshly installing game data (steam cloud does not seem to be available for ksp, however, as i do not see an option to turn it off.) any ideas? ok, newbie time, but how do i install this? do i put the cfg in the folder with the example cfgs that tech manager has? speaking of witch, i was unable to find a link to the .90 version of tech manager. anyone have it?

help with interstellar design? (for a story)

i was thinking 200 to 400 population. i know its quite vague in the description, but thats kinda why I'm here. I frankly have no idea what sort of mass this thing would have. i would ideally like to go from this to a pretty good idea of mass, propellant fraction, etc. as for the cylinder design, that could work, but how much faster would it have to spin? would there be any problems with coriolis effects? also, it would possibly still have to deal with the gravity vector changing while the ship is under acceleration. (however slight.) On the kon tiki, they solved this with the beaded torus design. (could be adapted for less than 1g of acceleration) is there any way you could do this with a cylindrical section? yes, i could make it so the whole spacecraft rotates, but that kinda destroys the plot. (still want to think of an excuse. star tracking navigation system that has to be steady?) -
i am currently in the process of writing a hard si-fi story (not planning on publishing it, I'm not the best writer) and i would like some input on my preliminary notes. if someone would be so kind as to help out with fine tuning the design of the craft some more, that would be appreciated. (also the name is a bit unoriginal, if anyone has a better name, pleas suggest it) also, not sure if this is the right forum to post this on, but it IS mostly about a spacecraft. if i messed up, please move this. Design of the Voyager generationalcolony spacecraft named after the first man made object to exit the solar system. dual centrifuge rings that counterbalance each other, looks like like 2001 space odessy station, but they spin in opposite directions. Long central spine, engines at the front pulling rest of ship engines angled several degrees outward to keep exhaust from frying the rest of the ship. Some sort of 0g observatory near the back? (possibly 0g recreation somewhere as well?) pressurized tunnel in the truss, allowing access to much of the ship. Could some of engine waste heat be used as life support heat? (as design or in survival?) relatively simple propulsion, not antimatter, fusion maybe? Closed cycle life support, algae farms, yeast, made into palatable dishes? Communication system with earth? (not superluminal!!!) repairs and maintenance done by remote control repair bots. (not fully autonomous) cargo for setting up colony on extrasolar planet way to angle floors slightly due to offset gravity during thrusting??? (would that be necessary?)(i do want rings, more space for population that way) story plot outline going to star with possibly habitable exoplanet, explored by probe some 90 years before voyager departed. ship breaks in half when one of the centrifuge rings jams. (get something to make it jam?) torque from the jam snaps spine, craft now in 2 pieces. this occurs about 2 generations into the journey? (during the coast phase) Main character is in the observation deck, relaxing, when break occurs possible end of story is in getting the spine repaired, and the survivors repair the ship to functionality again? (you want an emotional ending? How bout an epilogue where the main character, now an old man, (children?) witnessing the crafts arrival at the system?) anyway, thats my outline, what do you think?

you could say that all spacecraft use lithobreaking to bleed of the last few m/s, but i don't think thats what your asking.

have a few questions about physics i think i get the whole speed of light being constant in all refrence frames here (I've been a science lab lurker for some time,) where due to time slowing down with velocity, velocity measurements change, but I'm wondering, assuming an infinity strong spacecraft, (immune to spagettification,) what would it look like if you lowered your periapsis to below the event horizon? would you ever come out? if not, why? there is no force slowing down your orbital velocity, so why wouldn't you come out the other side? (question about some explanations I've seen elsewhere) with time dilation (I'm pretty sure time slows down for the one moving fast) then time might stop for you at the event horizon, but to an outside observer, the vessel would not slow down, right? so how does the object 'freeze' at the event horizon relative to an outside observer? continuing on that, if time does stop completely for the person orbiting, what would that look like? their perception of time would stay the same, so apart form the universe undergoing heat death before they reach it, what would stop them from going past it and exceeding the speed of light? sorry for my poorly formatted questions, just trying to wrap my head around these things.

couple things accumulating into one big thing: i can't stand warping more than about a week. if there is that much time, ill do some stuff on the mun/minnmus. everything about a rocket has to be perfect. error during launch? revert. something broke off while landing? revert to last quick save. (although I'm starting to limit myself to launch reverts and areobreakings) i overengeneer by default, but can't stand it and constantly redesign. i reset my game almost every save. result: I've landed on duna once, KSP updated before i could get a transfer window back. the rest of the times i haven't even got any transfer windows.
