Temeter replied to BudgetHedgehog 's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Its actually just 38 parts, maxmaps lied to us! -
One Oh will have 75 new parts. Wonder what that stuff will be, they can't have that many new wings and ressource parts.

How can something infinite be relative? -
Ofc everyone to the right, above and below europe too.^^
-
Three days for people in europe. :/ The 0.90 thread was 1k+ pages tho.
-
It's also on the official KSP twitter.

My wall was my first rendevous+docking, but that one was climbed in ~6 to 8 hours. Similarly my first mun landing took a small eternity. Never really thought about how insane the idea of landing on a rocket actually is. *tips hat towards spacex* Orbit wasn't to hard after understanding the usually unnecessary complicated advice. Otherwise Interplanetary was a challenge too, but then I learned that my manual method was bad and you really just use boring predetermined transfer windows. Eve landing was mostly just a wall of patience because small design issues could force you to repeat the whole thing. Which is why I did my first stock eve return only a few hours ago. Spaceplanes were kinda hard, but mostly just a relatively straightforward expansion of aircraft design.

The End of an era aka My two cents on One-point-oh
Temeter replied to viktor19's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It's been a while, isn't it? I think I started around 0.16, a bit more than two years ago. 1.0 will finally be a full game, although it's more like another step along a road. I will take that opportunity to finally visit all planets. Never felt the need to visit 2 or 3 of the jool moons, gilly, and eelo. There is one last mission I want to make in the soon outdated stock atmosphere, though. I've never managed to make an eve return mission. Might get to easy in the new aerodynamic modell.^^ -
With 1.0 we will need a new concept of "Stock" for Spacecraft?

The question if a spaceplane survives reentry is more a matter of piloting, isn't it? I can't really imagine what kind of plane would be 100% unable to survive a reentry, now where all structural parts/wings have a basic heat tolerancy. -
Selling in places more than steam isn't significant in any way. I love that they bring it to GoG, but it won't bring them too much in terms of sales. Sometimes the obvious answer is closer to the truth than conspiracy theories.^^

And that one was kinda terrible. -

We didn't even send unmanned SSTOs into space. It's not that difficult though. You just need a (COM) stable plane with lots of fuel, an insane amount of control surfaces or (maybe preferably) SAS. Then you go to 20k+, accelerate as far as you can, preferably at least 1.3k m/s, get your apoapsis as high as possible while throttling jets, and then use rockets to fly at a high angle to get the apoapsis to ~80+ km. Get there, burn to orbital, done. The biggest fight is really the patience to keep your plane all the way stable during the long acceleration process (quicksave if necessary), avoid flameouts (recommend mechjeb/far flight analysis) and get the control authority high enough to pull your nose up at 22k, but not too high as to not rip the lighter plane apart during return to lower atmospheres (which is why the static force of SAS is useful). And of course bring enough fuel, the needed amount really depends on how fast you get on jet engines, which is why B9 Sabres are king. -
Nice, GoG is awesome. Yeah, kinda similar to the multitude of old games steam is selling right now, they just made sure the games actually work. Atm there is more and more new stuff, but bigger publisher are ofc not happy about the prospect of actual customer service, refunds or drm free games.

Did you use the (now discontinued) 64bit version? That one produce outright bizar crashes. 32bit should be realtively stable. 1.0 is one of the biggest bug-fix releases KSP had up to this date. Max spoke about fixing over 300 bugs.

There are already a bunch of 1st time screens telling beginners what to do first. I'm rather assuming some practical/quality of life change.

Well, there are a lot of ways for a spaceplane to fail.^^ I recommend just taking your best plane and going to the FAR thread (if you're using the mod) including some screens? Although, considering you're a lot longer here than me and put so much time into spaceplanes, I have to wonder if you already tried that. It just doesn't seem to be that hard to me, Often annoying or tricky, but not impossible. B9s sabres are btw a secret weapon for spaceplanes. They reach ridiculous speads on liquid fuel alone, which makes Spaceplanes soooo much easier. -

Really? What did go wrong? SSTOs aren't that hard to build, at least the 'kinda functional' ones. -

You usually don't fly SSTOs to other planets. They are basically reusable rockets in form of a plane which can go back, land, and refund you all the cost. As for getting stuff to the ground, you just use just the normal landers+rockets and/or parachutes. You need atmospheres for SSTOs, and then parachutes are a million times more usefull. Most spaceplanes don't have the capacity to go to other planets, especially with cargo, and there isn't really a point. Transport-motherships and parachutes/landers are a million times better. The only real point to get planes to other planets is to easier explore them. Which is fantastic, but a purpose in itself. And you can only use jet engines on laythe, which means these planes have a very limited range. -
Oh god we need this.

Temeter replied to Dragonchampion's topic in KSP1 Discussion
That's actually a really good point, 1.0 should make the flight easier. Acceleration during early flight will also go a LOT faster because of the thinner atosphere, making it a faster and less frustrating thing. Construction might get slightly harder. Or not, who knows. -

Temeter replied to Dragonchampion's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Nah, most people don't actually use SSTOs. No point, we got lots of money, and construction+reentry takes faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar to long as to make it a regular thing. It's a fun challenge to build and fly them, but that's about it. Sounds like your usual problem is an asymetric flameout (engine on one site goes out at low oxygen while the other one still works). Easy way would be to use mechjeb and activate the 'prevent flameout' option. -
Maybe a launch/stage button? I remember searching an eternity for a way to start my rocket.
-
Maybe some sorts of markers the individual spaceport facilities? I remember searching a bit when I played the game first.
