On the first day, SQUAD said : "Let be the light". And therefore, Kerbol was created. On the second day, SQUAD said :"Boring place, na ? Let's put some things inside". So appeared, Moho, Eve, Kerbal, Duna, Dres, Jool, and Eeloo. They were spinning around in space, smashing in themselves... Actually doing nothing, just annoy Kerbol. So, on the third day, SQUAD said : "OK, stop this mess, let's put some kind of a rule Inside this shambles !". So was created gravity. Each planet recieved an amount in proportion of his size. On the fourth day, SQUAD said again : "In the name of Jeb', it's REALLY borring". So were created athmospheres, and moons, and the easter eggs ! But on the fith day, SQUAD realised that if there were nobody to see this wonderfull universe, it wasn't usefull. So were ceated Jeb, Bill and Bob, wandering around, having big smiles on theirs (stupid) faces. So, on the sixth day, SQUAD was fed up by the smiles. "You smile, hey ? Gona give you reasons to smile !". And goes the rocket science, and the terrifying expériences associated with it. But the smiles weren't get off the faces. So, on the seventh day, SQUAD said : "Nevermind, I give up..." Later after, the 0.20 pops out.

You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!
Akalaël replied to Mastodon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
We all have issues with the drop of frame rate when having lots of parts, do we ? So I figured that when you put stut between the launcher and your playload, after staging, the tiny grey bit of the strut COUNTS AS ONE PART ! OK, I deal with this, I'm clever and advised... A 100t playload maintained by 4 struts is probably enought. All right, a 100t playload maintained by 4 struts is SURELLY NOT enought. I'm clever and advised... -
There is a point in the game you can't depass : If you stack too many weight, the engine of the game considers that the structural forces of objets are exceed and will collapse. there is nothing to do about it, just stop stacking, and go sideway. You got some addons that gives you struts 10th time more strong than the stock one (I think it's KW Rocketery, not sure, I don't use it myself)

what was the first thing you landed on (not in the kerbin system)

Very first, Duna ! And Duna again, for the 5-6th times after ! -
I was able to perform all the manouevers in KSP before I got MJ installed. But MJ shows me how to be more efficient. As the OP I have'nt it anymore. The infos it was providing are lacking however.

Issue with rovers and their chairs.
Akalaël replied to Odo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Actually, the command seat does not contain any Kerbal. You have to bring them from a "regular" command pod and I don't think there's another way to proceed. EDIT -snip- -
If it's not on Eeloo... Kerbol then ? Kinda close orbit around maybe ?

Moon Base Rocket Design [Need help]
Akalaël replied to Regnium's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Totally agree, see this to improuve your rocket design. I sould let Temstar make his own promotion, but as I am a great fan of his job, I just link here his Zenith Rocket Familly. Take care : one of the pleasure of this game is to buid your own rocket, with the Temstar's rocket familly you'll won't need to build any longer, it's too perfect The way to put onto orbit huge playload is called asparagus. You're on a good way with your fuel line, but need a more info... -
I had a problem with a lander : arrived at the Mün, when I get rid of the lower stage, one of my engines of the upper stage was going away with the lower... It was obviously a bug : back at the VAB, when I disconnected the two stages, the engine I'm talking about was floating away with the lower stage, as if it was part of it... Just had to ditch it, and put another one... Maybe you got the same bug here : the middle engine is considered to be part of the launch clamps, and stays with them. Nothing to do but beware of your staging : I can see a fuel line going from two of your external tanks. If you want to make an asparagus stage, then your sequence is not good, cause you're get rid of those 4 external tanks at the same stage.
-
Can you provide a pic of your launcher, it'll help ! As I can tell, the 2880 fuel tank you are talking is the orange one, the Jumbo 64. It's known to be really heavy, and if you don't put many struts to sustain it, it won't work. Also, no matter the numbers of struts you put, if you stack too mutch of these, physiX will collapse your Orange thing ontop of the stage beneath...

I had MJ installed in the 0.19. 0.20 came, and I didn't put that computer on my game. Actually, I can do the same things than this tool, and I am playing the game, not MJ. Of course, I can't land so precisely than MJ, my bests landing are 500m away from my targets. Doesn't bother me. I launch my rockets better than it did (especially the big ones, and without this annoying search to be in the right plan... you know, tend to go to the right, overshoots, goes to the left, oversoot even more, ect ect ad nauseam) I dock better than MJ, no monopropellant wasted (I need, say, 20l of mono for the final approach, and that's it) and no time waiting in the lower orbit as recommended by the help encounter module. I recon that MJ was a sort of teatcher for me. It shows me tricks that I wasn't aware of : near perfect ascending path, how to get an encounter. But the thing is that I learned all the manoeuvers in KSP before I get MJ installed. So I perfected my skills with it, and no longer needs it. Well, no longer for the driving help at last. I'm missing all the infos it was provided. I installed engeenier redux to have the delta-V of my rockets, and to have basics infos on my fligths, but I really regret the MASS of data you could get. Of course, in the orbital map, you can have some of the infos you need, but I like being in the staging mode and perform my manoeuvers. Simple exemple : how to circularise your trajectory in the staging window ? That momment when your AP is flipping with your PE is transcribe on the numbers you can get from MJ, but you have to be in the orbital map in the basic game to see it. I deplore that fact. I wish sometimes the devs will implement more data to be read in the game, so that I can get rid of all those addons. Cheers

What's the heaviest thing you've launched?
Akalaël replied to leopardenthusiast's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Back in the 0.18 I made a 155t lifter (over 600 parts). Here is the playload in orbit The .craft of the ship is here 100% stock I have a tendency since the 0.19 to reduce the mass of my playloads, to cut it in smaller pieces, cause launching that thing was pretty a painfull experience. I still have a 120 tons lifter nowdays but I use it just to launch the cores of my space ships (represents less than 1/10th of my launches). -

Help getting to the mun with MechJeb
Akalaël replied to pasta549's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Agree with Sol : should be posted in the "How to...". I hadn't dowload MJ in the 0.20, but I gess this hasn't changed from the 0.19, so : When you want to go to the Mün, choose the Homman transfer. Adjust the path because the Homman transfer gets you on an intercept trajectory. Clic on the button. But really, there is nothing difficult by doing this by yourself... Clic on your actual path to pop a manoeuver node, drag the prograde vector till your path cross the Mün, play around with it, you'll get your encounter for sure (gravity of the Mün is great). -
Finished the Zéphyr. 390 tons, 558 parts, 9 trips to dock all this stuff in orbit. 12 LV-N, 5 crew member, 2 landers, 2 rovers, 6 probes. Waiting for a window to Jool !

How many plays "for real - with conscience"?
Akalaël replied to EasyAce's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I have a consciousness. I dislike try my rockets when they are manned (kerbaled ?), I don't like sending my refiueling ships with a command pod... That is for my consciousness... And then, I send one refieuling ship... Takes ages to turn (don't understand why, it's only a 50t playload ), can't get the precision I need for docking, and I have 7 others launch to do with that rocket... And then, I test 5, 7, 10 crafts and it's a pain to launch with no torque. So I put my consciousness in a big, huge, deep pit, I sit on it, and carry on ! I think the major improuvement about taking care of your Kerbals will occurs when the career mode will arrive. Imagine, you'll hire and train Jebediah Kerman, at a cost that still has to be determinate. This will be an investisment, maybe (and hopefully) a big one, and if you loose this investisment (read : if Jeb dies in the first launch you make with him), THAT will be painfull. -
I've voted for the ion. ISP fantastic, but in fact absolutely unusable... Funny, I've never used the radial mainsails ones, nor the LV-1...
-
I can't see any engines, but if you strap an LV-N at the bottom, I gess you can have pretty mutch delta-V...

As Boffinbox, I cut through parts to make space stations, and vessels with the less parts possible. As my frame rate gets low when I hit the 300 parts, I try to stay below, that's all. It's sad, of course, I sacrifice my pleasure to utility, but I'd rather play with something usefull than having a huge, fantastic and finally useless space station/vessel. The question is : will this evolve in the future ? I remember the devs saying that the major graphical improuvement will occurs near the release. Am I correct ? And another thought : if the game supports one day let's say 1000 pats without lagging, I can see from here the future posts : "I built a mere 2000 parts space station and I get low frame rate, I don't understand !"

Designed and launched my new interplanetary proto, and his landers, and his rovers. Named it Déméter. Drove to the Mün to test the concept

Wasn't there a recent poll on the subject Steam vs KSP store ? There it is If you see the numbers, there are actually near twice people playing than indicated in the Steam stats...

high ISP rockets are unusable without acceleration warp.
Akalaël replied to 1096bimu's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The fact is : you can't combine efficient ISP AND efficient thrust. Unless you edit the .cfg file. But try to make an engine with 1500 kN thrust, 5000 ISP, and you'll see, the game as no more interrest ! I agree with the proposals that were made : Alarm Clock can pause your game at a determinate time, and MechJeb can follow your vector better than you can. Then it's Alarm Clock and MechJeb that are actually playing, not you, but it's an other debate...
