[Showcase] Replica Craft thread!
Tex_NL replied to Mr. Pseudonym's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Those WW2 Nazi's had some sickening philosophies but you can't deny they had some wicked airplane designs: Took the liberty of adding some extra intakes to fill the gap between the cockpit and the wings. As a bonus this allows the P.60A to reach roughly 40km. It flies pretty good and of course I can get it to orbit. Yes, the nose is different from the first image. This revised version has RCS and is able to dock, the first does not. -
We'll need another Steam user to confirm. No we don't. Look at what he said: He's on 0.20. He's probably not aware we're all eargerly waiting for 0.21

Speed doesn't have to be zero as long as your periapsis is zero or less.

[Showcase] Replica Craft thread!
Tex_NL replied to Mr. Pseudonym's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
A modern B9 design inspired by a classic WWII prototype. (From scratch to orbit in less than 2 hours.) -
You've got your staging reversed. Higher numbered stages go first. Stage 0 is the final one. As soon as you launch it triggers stage 3. Take a look at what's inside stage 3: a decoupler and guess what, a parachute.

shouldn't orbital vehicles be tide locked?

You just answered your own question. -
Questions about decoupler force
Tex_NL replied to iamthemoose's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This is not correct! Yes, the force is small but far from negligible! If you're decoupling a heavy satellite you can ignore the decoupler. But if you're decoupling a light micro satellite it can easily increase the orbit by few dozen km. Or worse; throw it back into the atmosphere. To avoid this you can use a docking port (you can use a single docking port the same way you can use a decoupler). You'll have to separate manually by right-clicking but it will not exert any force on either side. -
Wikipedia says the following about the work Lithosphere: If aerobraking is braking by using the atmosphere then lithobraking is braking by using a planets Lithosphere. In other words crashing into the ground killing all forward momentum and usually the passengers at the same time. Edit: Ninja'd @Cheebsta: You're totally correct, he could have found the answer himself VERY easily.

Another thing that got forgotten was the fact that against all probability a sperm whale had been suddenly been called into existence several miles above the surface of an alien planet. And since this is not a naturally tenable position for a whale, this poor innocent creature had very little time to come to terms with its identity as a whale before it then had to come to terms with not being a whale any more. This is a complete record of its thought from the moment it began its life till the moment it ended it. Ah . . . ! What's happening? it thought. Er, excuse me, who am I? Hello? Why am I here? What's my purpose in life? What do I mean by who am I? Calm down, get a grip now . . . oh! this is an interesting what is it? It's sort of . . . yawning, tingling sensation in my . . . my . . . well, I suppose I'd better start finding names for things if I want to make any headway in what for that sake of what I shall call an argument I shall call the world, so let's call it my stomach. Good. Ooooh, it's getting quite strong. And hey, what about this whistling roaring sound going past what I'm suddenly going to call my head? Perhaps I can call that . . . wind! Is that a good name? It'll do . . . perhaps I can find a better name for it later when I've found out what it's for. It must be something very important because there certainly seems to be a hell of a lot of it. Hey! What's this thing? This . . . let's call it a tail - yeah, tail. Hey! I can really thrash it about pretty good, can't I? Wow! Wow! That feels great! Doesn't seem to achieve very much but I'll probably find out what it's for later on. Now, have I built up any coherent picture of things yet? No. Never mind, hey, this is really exciting, so much to find out about, so much to look forward to, I'm quite dizzy with anticipation . . . Or is it the wind? There really is a lot of that now, isn't there? And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming toward me very fast? Very, very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide-sounding name like . . . ow . . . ound . . . round . . . ground! That's it! That's a good name- ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me? Hello Ground! And the rest, after a sudden wet thud, was silence. Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again. Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the Universe than we do now.

I totally understand you like to help deathbane out but despite your suggestion being correct it isn't very helpful. This thread has been death for over 2 months! No checking the date is as big a n00b error as trying to link an image straight from your desktop.

How to Begin Creating a Flag?
Tex_NL replied to TheHockeyPlayer's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You've basically answered your own question. You can do whatever you want. You can google a puck and stick image and edit it with your program of choice to your hearts desire. As long as you don't distribute a modified image I am convinced nobody would mind. -
Scott Manley explains why you would not be able even if the planets/moons where NOT on rails:

Funny that nobody spotted an 'in your face' error. It is of course a cinematic liberty to keep the astronauts faces visible but a true astronaut would never look towards the sun with a clear visor. It would burn out their retina's in mere seconds.

Both 'End flight' and 'Abort' will remove the affected object, permanently removing it from the Kerbal universe. Edit: Ninja'd

I honestly wouldn't bother. This game had great promise but after a few hours you figure out that all the missions (seriously, all of them) just amount to "Go there, kill the red ones, come back, receive bacon." It was wildly over-ambitious, went wildly over-time and over-budget and by the time the studio sold itself to Microsoft I'm sure some of the suits over there had a heart attack at the mess they found. So they told them to ship the bloody thing as it was and be done with it.Of course everyone now blames Microsoft for that piece of junk instead of Chris Roberts, the man who drove that game and the studio behind it head first into the ground. So I'm skeptical towards Star Citizen as it is basically Chris Roberts coming back to make good on a decade-old promise. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt: he seems to have grown up a lot over the past ten years and his humble demeanor and obvious passion for the project have really impressed me so far. Though I'm not about to entrust him with any of my money just yet EDIT: To add something constructive to this thread - I've been killing time with Prison Architect, a great little sandbox alpha game with cutesy sprite-based characters shanking each other in the showers. Fun! Also, I'm using this silence before the 0.21 storm to go out and get some sun, because of summer. Freelancer still has a very big fanbase and several active multiplayer servers especially those running the Discovery mod. But be warned when you're planning to play Freelancer Discovery. The official Discovery server (Discovery GC) is VERY strict, go even slightly beyond your roll-play and you'll face serious penalties. Its a complete dictatorship that is full of backstabbing, meta-gaming and betrayal. The only real alternative would be 'Discovery PTC relaxed RPG'. Unfortunately that server is run by an obscenely religious narcissistic incompetent moron. Trust me I know, I played on that server a long time. I was third in command and 'Trade master' of ZEN (Zoner Edgeworld Network). The oldest and without a doubt 'richest' faction there.

I totally have to agree with this. The same could be said about my favorite game round Y2K: Mindrover. The idea about Mindrover was to pick a scenario (race, puzzle, battle, etc.), a vehicle (wheel, hovercraft or tracked) and then add components like engines, sensors and weapons. Once you finished equipping the outside you switched to the 'inside' and started programming with a variety of wires and analog and logical switches to give it a basic intelligence. Once you released your rover in the arena all you could do was wait and see if your rover was capable of surviving or winning. I lost countless hours of sleep either building and programming or tossing and turning in bed trying to figure out a better strategy. Edit: Forgot to mention it also had, just like KSP, great mods and community.

I get the feeling you prefer stock but I'd suggest you ditch the jet engines and add some firespitter props. -
Your problem is not related to just B9. Part wobble is an inherent flaw of how KSP vessels are constructed and it can be solved with just two words: MOAR STRUTS! Whenever you spot unwanted movement between two parts simply tie the two together. Struts have little to no negative effect on weight and drag so don't be afraid to indulge yourself.

my rovers tend to topple a lot
Tex_NL replied to lammatt's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I am surprised nobody mentioned precision controls yet. Toggle precision controls with [Caps Lock] (Roll/Pitch/Yaw markers change from orange to blue). Now your steering won't go to 'full lock' the moment you hit a key but it will steer more gently. This in combination with pretty much everything already mentioned should keep your wheels on the ground. Personally I prefer remapping rover keys over docking mode as it allows me to use torque independently from steering to compensate an imminent roll over (especially useful on low gravity worlds). -
You can use the Romfarer plugin to increase the physics radius from 2,5 to a maximum of 50 km. But .... this will load and calculate physics for EVERYTHING within that 50 km radius which can cause a severe strain on performance. Edit: Ninja'd2 The Lazor mod also uses the Romfarer plugin. (Duh, it's made BY Romfarer. ) You say 100 km, I say 50. I could be mistaking. But whatever distance it is it will cause lag.

You're clearly not familiar with Damned Robotics (updated to Infernal Robotics). It has rotation parts that can easily move the wings back and forth.
