Help with Shuttle mission planning.
Tex_NL replied to ArmchairPhysicist's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yes, practice. Pay close attention to where you make your burn, how big your burn is and how low you drop your Pe, your AoA (angle of attack) during re-entry and finally where you end up. On the next attempt try to do everything the same except for one factor and see how that affects your landing location. The burn location and Pe altitude are the main factors that determine your landing location. If you overshoot make your burn sooner or drop your Pe lower. AoA during re-entry can be used to fine tune your path during flight. -

How to swap crew members in a full vessel?
Tex_NL replied to Gordon Dry's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
OK, here it comes. Tourists CAN swap seats. Period! Launch them on a regular rocket, transfer them to a Mun transfer vehicle. And once in Mun orbit transfer them to a lander. You can do all that just like you can with any other Kerbal. They just can not do EVA's. P.S. It is Hohmann. No F's and double N. NOT Hoffman! -
Getting to space (above 70km) on whiplashes is EXTREMELY easy. Staying in space on just stock air breathing engines however is NOT possible! In fact it is so incredibly easy a challenge like this pops up every few months.

Question about microgravity/ zero gravity adaptation
Tex_NL replied to ARS's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Ask NASA, ESA, ROSCOSMOS and pretty much everybody else involved. This is one of those questions they are trying to answer with long term studies on the ISS. Edit: A more entertaining but less accurate/scientific answer can be found in the first season of The Expanse. Great TV series. highly recommendable. -
How to check last message or communication ?
Tex_NL replied to KoolBreeze420's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
In the stock game crew will NOT get homesick therefore this MUST be mod related. You're best, and probably only option is to identify the mod and ask your question in the relevant thread. -
Squad: Please fix some annoyances
Tex_NL replied to Targa's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Go to the settings menu and change audio volumes on 'spacecraft'. This should lower the wind and flame volume. This is exactly as it should be, it is called stereo. The exhaust sound comes from left speaker if your exhaust is on the left side of the screen and from the right when the exhaust is on the right hand side. While looking at the craft you will not notice is as it sounds natural. The sound appears to comes from the location it should. In map mode the visual cue is missing and it sounds weird. -
Making rocket more maneuverable
Tex_NL replied to felcas's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
So you're basically asking to us 'fix this' without telling/showing/explaining what 'this' actually is. Please provide pictures in order for others to see what you've done thus far. Only then can people actually know what you've been doing right or wrong and offer advice. -
My game keeps on crashing !!!!!!!
Tex_NL replied to derry_destark's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
error.log : Error occurred at 2017-07-28_225008. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program\KSP.exe, run by Denniz. 72% memory in use. 0 MB physical memory [2752 MB free]. 0 MB paging file [0 MB free]. 0 MB user address space [95 MB free]. Write to location 00000000 caused an access violation. Surprise, surprise. You're running out of memory. How predictable. output.log also reports 'out of memory' on various locations. There is a reason I made it the VERY FIRST item in the FAQ. -
Totally agree. There really should be a standard that all others conform to. A community made standard would be just fine but the ideal solution is for SQUAD to incorporate it into the stock game. This would be a very small change that nearly triples the available parts and design options.

How would we colonize Mars if it was inhabited?
Tex_NL replied to fredinno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I highly doubt that. If Mars had human-like alien inhabitants this would mean it must also have an earth-like atmosphere. This would make colonizing Mars incredibly easy. Sure, you would still have to make a long and treacherous journey through the void of space but once there life would get pretty easy. No (or very limited) special habitats or suits needed. No need to take years worth provisions with you as you could live off the land. In other words, we would have already settled Mars decades ago during the height of the cold war and we would have brought our politics with us. -
5 star engineer not performing repairs
Tex_NL replied to Broke dead dogg's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (Console)
Are you expecting the Kerbal to perform the action on his/her own or do you actually tell the Kerbal to repack the chute? Because, no matter the skill level, a Kerbal will NEVER repack a chute if you do not tell him/her to. While in control of the Kerbal click the parachute, open the dialogue window and select 'repack parachute'. -
totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?
Tex_NL replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in The Lounge
Exactly. Especially when rules differ between countries. Apparently cyclists on the sidewalk is very common and legal in Germany. In the Netherlands it is not. Cyclists belong on the cycling path or when there is non, on the road. Also in Germany on cycling crossovers the cyclists DO have the right of way. In the Netherlands usually they do not. As a result cycling German tourists blindly assume they have the right of way. And German motorists brake and stop for no apparent reason causing all kinds of dangerous situations. I do not wish to offend any German forum members here. I earn my pay on the road and nearly always when I encounter such behaviour German tourists are involved. And it's not just me who came to this conclusion, my colleagues, friends and family all feel the same. It has come so far that often when there is a German car ahead of me and we come close to a known cyclist crossing I slow down just in case. This has saved me from several 'close encounters' if you know what I mean. And if you hit a bicycle with a regular can the cyclist 'merely' gets a flying lesson. When you hit one with an 18tonne truck it's all over. -
Take a look at this thread: Sorted by type, a link to the relevant thread and each with a short description.

Labs, Science per day and AFK
Tex_NL replied to NewtSoup's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Every lab needs a fresh set of data. But instead of a second lab there is another method you might be interested in. The stock lab model has six seats, two on each deck. Only the two on the middle deck get used. This simple MM patch will let you use all six seats, greatly improving the science output per day. Also keep in mind the data crunch speed is NOT constant. The more data you have available the faster the processing. When the data pool gets smaller so does the processing rate.- 21 replies

totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?
Tex_NL replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in The Lounge
I nearly ruined a German tourists holiday on my way back home from work. Instead it turned into a valuable lesson about traffic regulations for her and her entire family. Over the last few years an ever increasing, and ever more annoying number of cycling German tourists blindly cross the roads assuming they have the right of way even though the signs and markings clearly indicate the opposite. Driving home from work at just under 80kph I noticed a group of cyclists starting to cross. And since I had the right of way I had no intention to stop. Some of them had already crossed, some stopped as they should. One did not. Fortunately for her I expected them to ignore the regulations and slammed on the brakes. With screeching tires I came to a full stop less than half a meter before hitting her. In fright she hit a curb and fell to the ground. In the end she turned out to be OK. A painful wrist, shocked and perhaps a few bruises. But most of all a valuable lesson they will never forget: Pay attention to the signs and markers and yield if you do NOT have the right of way! -
Game Crashes on Launch
Tex_NL replied to CheckYoStaging's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Clearly both of you have not bothered to look at the error.log. I've marked it in red for you. He IS using the 64bit version with plenty of RAM. Yes, crashes like this are more often than not memory related but I do not believe this is one of them. -
Jett Quasar's Star Wars Replicas
Tex_NL replied to Jett_Quasar's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
@Jett_Quasar They all look pretty neat. But I really must ask; I don't see any downward engines or thrust effects and I don't see any wheels. How did you make them float with just stock parts? -

Looking for Commercial crew spacecraft.
Tex_NL replied to Cloakedwand72's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Are you sure? If you had actually bothered to read that thread you could have known that it does. -
If you're spending 40% of your total KSP time just trouble shooting mods you're doing something seriously wrong. Personally I run a good number of mods. I do not know how much time I spend on installing and trouble shooting but I do know it's closer to 0.4% than 40%. And no, I do not let myself be hobbled by a completely unnecessary tool like CKAN. I install them manually and correctly the first time.

[Minimum KSP version - 1.12] Kerbal Inventory System (KIS) v1.29
Tex_NL replied to IgorZ's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Thanks @Aelfhe1m for pointing me in the right direction. But instead of yet another MM patch I just edited the KIS settings.cfg. -
Jett Quasar's Star Wars Replicas
Tex_NL replied to Jett_Quasar's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
An X-wing and B-wing I made a long time ago in 1.0.5. The X-wing flew like a dream, the B-wing was an absolute pain. -
[Minimum KSP version - 1.12] Kerbal Inventory System (KIS) v1.29
Tex_NL replied to IgorZ's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
After a long hiatus I reinstalled KIS/KAS. Question: how do I get rid of the KIS containers in the menu screens apart from uninstalling KIS/KAS?
