Show off your awesome KSP pictures!
Specialist290 replied to NuclearWarfare's topic in KSP Fan Works
I've merged this thread with the "Show off your awesome KSP pictures" one. In the future, be mindful of existing active threads that may already serve the same purpose as the thread you're starting. Have a nice day, everyone -
Rescue Mission!!! Thoughts?
Specialist290 replied to Neshma's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Moving this to Gameplay Questions. Also, seconding Scotius's remarks: You don't need to build a "grabber" to have an effective rescue craft. Since you've mentioned you're thinking about building an unmanned craft, you could simply build a craft using a probe body as the root part, then add a crew capsule to that and build the rest of the rocket around that. Launch it empty, have it rendezvous with the stranded craft, and transfer Jeb over to the lifeboat. This way, you won't even have to worry about putting other crewmembers at risk. Hope this helps! -
How are rockets (real ones) stable when they lift off?
Specialist290 replied to Anizer's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I think this fits the Science Labs a little better Moved. -
Yeah, let's let this old topic rest. No need to bump something this old and irrelevant.
-
Closing this, since we only really need one discussion thread for it at a time. Have a nice day

Done. Threads merged, since we only really need one active thread at a time.

[0.21] Hooligan Labs - Airship, Submarines and More
Specialist290 replied to Hooligan Labs's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
As JewelShisen has started his own thread for this mod's continued development, I'd advise all future concerns to be taken there. I'm going to be closing this one to prevent confusion, although Hooligan Labs himself may request it be reopened once he returns from his leave of absence. -
Something I've been wondering about in the back of my mind -- has anyone tried quantifying the gains from higher TWR versus the losses from a lower mass ratio on two otherwise-identical craft performing the same burn in terms of fuel actually used? I'd like to see at what point (if any) they reach equilibrium, myself.

By academic standards, Wikipedia itself is not a reliable source. The bibliography section that most pages have, however, is usually a good indicator for where you can start digging for them.

[CLOSED] Kerbin and Beyond: a Maturing Space Program
Specialist290 replied to Northstar1989's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Well, you've certainly been busy lately Hope we can safely say "The Eagle has landed" in the near future. -
Welcome to the forums! I know exactly what you mean. I don't have a strong academic background in rocket science myself (math wasn't even my best subject in school), but it's amazing what you can learn in a short amount of time when you have the motivation to do so. Feel free to look around the forums and ask questions about the game, or even answer other players' questions if you feel confident enough in your answers. We welcome anyone who's willing to make a positive contribution to the community

Welcome to the forums! Well, you certainly seem eager enough about the game. Good thing you found the rest of us; you're just crazy enough to fit right in But seriously, it really is a fantastic experience that pushes you to do new things, then keep doing them better once you can do them, and there are plenty of people here who will encourage you and one another to do bigger and better things. Feel free to ask questions about anything you don't understand, or to check out any tutorials that you think might be beneficial. Also, I see you've already found the Mission Reports section, which is good. Enjoy, and hope this helps!

Welcome to the forums! Glad to see one of the "old guard" among us enjoying the game. Any particular games you remember enjoying from the old C64? I wasn't quite in that generation, but once my tastes matured a bit, I realized that there's a real treasure-trove of older games out there that I had passed up when I was younger, and I've been trying to get my hands on as many of the "gems" as I can. Also, what's the rest of the family's reaction to the game, if I may be so bold as to ask? Since you mentioned "sharing stories," feel free to share your own in the Mission Reports forums or in the "What did you do in KSP today?" thread. Feel free to ask questions if you need any help, or if you're just curious about some aspect of the game. Warp drives might be far, far away in the future in the base game, but you might hear talk of a "KSP Interstellar" mod that gives you the drive (though sadly, no interesting destinations). Enjoy!

First off, welcome to the forums! Second, 64-bit support is a commonly requested feature. However, it's been such a common request that it's been placed on the What Not To Suggest list, as are a great many items that are either already scheduled for further development, confirmed not to be on the developers' To-Do lists, or that are otherwise infeasible for whatever reason. I would highly advise familiarizing yourself with this list before making further suggestions. Have a nice day

Kerbal Killer Atherius, present and accounted for.
Specialist290 replied to Atherius's topic in Welcome Aboard
Welcome to the forums! If you're looking for a decent MechJeb substitute that doesn't have the ever-so-tempting autopilot, I'd highly recommend Kerbal Engineer Redux. Having dabbled with both, I think that KER is much better as a build assistant than MechJeb is, as well. -
Make a wish... and have it horribly corrupted!
Specialist290 replied to vexx32's topic in Forum Games!
*gasp* You broke the chain! You broooke the chaaaaaaaain!! ...Ahem. As your implied wish was nothing, you get nothing. Thus, you get skipped. Granted. He then tells you about every difference between the two you could possibly imagine, and never stops talking. I wish I lived in a world where steam power never died, so that I could launch steampunk rockets to the Moon. -
Will my shuttle reenter kerbin ever?
Specialist290 replied to ahnialator6's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hate to say it, but it sounds like they're going to be stuck there for the long haul. The only chance (and a slim one at that) I see would be if you had some sort of propulsion like RCS to lower your periapsis within atmo when you come back around to Kerbin's SoI, but I honestly wouldn't count on it. That said, there's no life support modeled in the game, so you can probably leave the crew up there safely while you figure out what you might need to pull off a successful rescue mission. Rendezvousing two craft in solar orbit is going to be a real challenge, but I'd give it better odds than blindly trusting orbital mechanics to get you out of this situation somehow. -
And I think with that, we can call this little experiment over. It seems that despite the best intentions of the creators, people have been getting too emotionally invested in this game and have started down the roleplaying road. If you want to continue, then I recommend that you do so over at the Kerbal Roleplay website, as found through this forum post.

Deadly Reentry Mod
Specialist290 replied to Henri von Braun's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Knowing how old this thread is, I can guarantee that it's highly likely that none of the information is relevant to Deadly Reentry in its current release. If you want to continue the discussion on atmospheric skipping in the real world, then I'd highly recommend starting a new thread over in the Science Lab. Thread closed. Have a nice day, everyone, and don't forget to check the posting dates -
Kragrathea's PlanetFactory mod was released without either licensing or source code, and thus is in violation of the community's add-on posting guidelines. This means that we cannot allow users to post links to external sites offering this modification for download or to solicit download links from other users, as is the case for prohibited content in general. Thread closed. Everyone have a nice day

I know it isn't to impressive but....
Specialist290 replied to Stilgar2300's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Anything you can walk away from... (Except it's a probe, so there's no one to walk away in the first place... Ah, forget it, you know what I mean )
