Wait I am not sure I am getting this correctly. You are advocating against a game mechanic just because it hasn't been implemented yet? I think the OP was trying to discuss a mechanic witch, when implemented would exist in the finished vanilla KSP along with all the other planned, yet still unimplemented features like money or budgets. Saying that it should not be implemented because there are other game mechanics witch are missing is like saying that there is no point in introducing space plane hangar, since there are no wing parts in the game yet or indeed introducing Research mechanics before it becomes meaningful for the career mode somehow. Right, this one just went over your head completely. I was, in fact, pointing out a potential flaw in implementing a construction time as it was discussed at that time.

Just had an idea mulling this through. How about waiting for the components to be manufactured? We can all see that next to every part in VAB there is a counter telling you how many parts you have available. This means that in the full game, we will need to buy parts in order to build rockets. How about a delay between order and delivery of the parts? You want 5 orange tanks? Fine it will take 25 000 Krones and 5 weeks to deliver them. The actual assembly of the vehicle could be fairly fast. Especially if you think about how bendy all the constructions are, I do not think Kerbals put much effort into actually welding the parts together.
-
Except if you have to pay 15 000 Krones a month just for the maintenance of the KSC. Or if you have to make sure that all your kerbals in space have enough food and life support not to die in a week. Its an good idea, but it would have to be implemented well. For example you have a probe on route to Duna with an encounter in 12 hours. The fact slips your mind and you are fooling around in LKO and you build and launch a Tanker to refuel your space station. Time skips by 3 days for construction and you realize your Duna probe has missed the insertion burn and is now hurling into deep space being completely useless ...

Now THAT is a compact rover! And all the way to Duna non the less! Good work.

@Astropapi1: how did you post pictures of MY Eve mission?? Are you spying on me?

I use procedural fairings to protect the delicate parts of the craft in the atmosphere. Also with the procedural fuselage and the structural walls, you can create hollow places where you can stack your sensitive equipment. It adds extra weight to the craft, but so do the nosecones witch I religiously put on all my rockets and boosters. And before someone will point out the obvious, yes, yes I do know they are not actually needed right now. It's just how I roll.
-
Yup, I consider it exploit in pretty much any situation, except in very obvious cases, like trying to attach that bloody Tail. Its not as bad as Mechjeb though! What?! I just got out of bed and I am cold! I think this thread needs a bit more heat....

That looks suspiciously like Hollywood physics.

Quickly hand over my leadership to HarvestR. I haven't got a faintest idea how to run a game development company, or what's involved or what the proper workflow should be. Now if you wanted your living room redecorated or fixing that rotting window... call me. I do free estimates.

Everytime after an update, I go through this cycle.
Torham234 replied to NASAFanboy's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I am at the moment on the prolonged "quit KSP" phase. I haven't really played much since 0.19 or so, just waiting for the game to mature some more. I still lurk the forums and follow the updates, but I am "saving up" all the interesting bits for when the game is more complete. I am really looking forward to fully functional career mode with pricing and funds and all that jazz. Can you believe that since I started playing(0.18) I have only visited Duna, Eve and Jool ? By far the most time I have spent in KSP was in the SPH designing and flying aeroplanes. I am also very carefully avoiding any forum topics discussing easter eggs. I have so far found 2. I can't understand the people complaining that there is too few easter eggs. try looking for them without any pointers or spoilers - it takes a great deal of luck to find one! -
Amen to that. His mod IVA's are excellent, it really is a shame to still have a plain placeholder for the Mk2 Cockpit. PS: Off topic: Why exactly is it so very bad to necro a thread that it needs to be locked immediately? Surely its better to add to the previous conclusions and conversations instead of endlessly recreating the same threads?( like "have you hit something in orbit", witch seems to resurface every week or so...) Am I just being thick?
-
I am missing an option that says "as low as possible". Its a bit arbitrary to say I am trying to keep everything under 100, because I do not usually count the parts. What I do is carefully consider every stage and how to streamline every component and stage of the design. I am on the Minimalist side, so I guess I would go into the under 100 bracket most of the time...

Do you guys want the Observatory?
Torham234 replied to littlecheese999's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I am quite convinced that the observatory will be used to "discover" the planets outside the Kerbin System. That is Eve, Duna, Jool and so on. Also, what we want is mostly irrelevant, as the devs already have a very solid idea of the finished game. Lastly, I am very much looking forward to it, as it will be an interesting part of the career mode. -
Minecraft? Really? Eve Online? Elite 2 - Frontier had procedurally generated entire galaxy, that is complete with planets and moons. You could potentially travel to any of those, and you would find a star system with planets and moons orbiting those planets. You could land or just fly over any of these celestial bodies. Sure the surface would be considered bland by today's standards, but considering that you had MILLIONS of planets to visit and land on - nothing to frown upon.Size of the game? 720 KB.

A Quick Flowchart: to Mod, or Not to Mod?
Torham234 replied to Galacticruler's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Kerbal Space program > Do you care about how you achieve your goals > Yes > Try out stock. It works, that is what I am pretty much doing! -
Double check Staging prior to launch.
-
The samples collected by robots may have much less value than the ones collected by Kerbal, since the probe cannot pick the best specimen, or even move far from the landing site. But it would be Fairly Realistic.
-
Could be something to do with the incredible density the Mün has compared to our Moon
-
Nice one. Here is the LOLA topographic map example.

Am I the only one who thinks that the goo container eerily resembles the plot from 1988 horror movie The Blob? That was pretty much the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the description in the game. A meteorite crashes near the town of Arborville, California; an elderly transient discovers, within the sphere, a jelly-like substance (the Blob) that attaches itself to his hand. Later in the movie, even humans are trying to harvest some Science out of it...

More bang for your buck - What would you like next for KSP?
Torham234 replied to Kerbonautical's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Nope. Google was called a Library back then. I am pretty sure they consulted every book in existence on the subject before they even began the planing of the rocket. If you want to spend half a day measuring distances between orbits, working out the masses of planets and orbital periods, and than working out the optimal launch windows and working out the hohmann transfer nodes, its up to you. I am not even sure that KSP gives you all the necessary information ingame. I would rather look up on the deltaV map and plan my mission from there. Right now its fairly easy, since you can massively overcompensate and bring tons of fuel with any probe you send out, but once the economy kicks in, that would be a luxury you may not be able to afford. Careful planing of every probe will be a cornerstone of a successful mission. -

Torham234 replied to Kerbonautical's topic in KSP1 Discussion
So instead of finding the relevant information in game, you have to alt + tab and look at the deltaV map of the Kerbol System. I guess the paralel would be not having an ingame map in a Dungeon crawler. While it was quite fun drawing you own map on a squared paper while playing Dungeon Master, I think most players would agree that having a map ingame is a better option. And I agree that Kerbal Engineer redux should already be stock. That is probably the single most useful mod you can have in KSP. -

Indeed a fair point well made. -

Torham234 replied to Kerbonautical's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yes I think it would have been much more sensible to include some more practical information about the parts in their description. Back when I was starting out I had to have KSP wiki open pretty often, and most of the part functionality had to be discovered by trial and error... Today I do not really care, as I know all the parts in detail, and I do not even read the descriptions for any new parts implemented as I know they are completely useless...
