Next Nation that will walk on the moon?
mythic_fci replied to piggysanTH's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I was going to reply with a sarcastic comment, until I realized what you meant... LOL -
Sounds nice, but here are some concerns of mine: The game sounds too much like KSP, except that most of the flight is automated instead of manual. It would be extremely hard to add a game function that programs multiple maneuvers to achieve a single goal. I don't think the game would be particularly appealing, considering that a copy of KSP with Mechjeb installed would do practically the same thing.

1. Once the Dragon v2 and the Dream Chaser are up and running, send up some tools to remove all non-essential systems (aka Strip the station to it's bone) 2. Fuel the Zarya module and deorbit ISS 3. Use the remaining water supplies on board to clear up radio transmissions and send videos of the deorbit

Inefficient. 2 launchers will already stretch the budget, let alone 3. -
Next Nation that will walk on the moon?

Hmmm... You're right, actually. Maybe the Chinese could modify the Shenzhou to be a 2-man Zond-like spacecraft (Remove the front crew module, add docking adaptor to CM). That way, extra fuel could be added and a new engine put in. Also, I didn't mean that the SHENZHOU pushed both itself and the LM to the moon with it's own engine - I meant to use the upper stage engine of one of the CZ5s, like the LK. So here's the flight plan I meant: Zond-like orbiter launched by CZ5 Orbiter TLI performed by CZ5 upper stage Orbiter LOI performed by CZ5 upper stage CZ5 upper stage dumped --------------------------- Lander launched by CZ5 Lander TLI performed by CZ5 upper stage Lander LOI performed by CZ5 upper stage --------------------------- Orbiter and Lander rendevouz and dock (Orbiter Active, Lander Passive) Crew Transfer --------------------------- Lander deorbit burn performed by CZ5 upper stage CZ5 upper stage dumped Lander lands on descent engine EVA and experiments Lander takes off on ascent engine Lander and Orbiter rendevouz and dock (Lander active, Orbiter passive) Crew transfer Dump lander ------------------------- EOI performed by Orbiter SM engine Deorbit burn performed by Orbiter SM engine Landing Remember, this is SPECULATION. -

Guys. Stop. -

Just a kind FYI, but maybe he isn't from the US... But seriously, guys, STOP. -
If only they'd produce more McLaren P1s...
-
Agreed. I mean seriously, when I was young, I rarely had the chance to even watch TV, let alone have one in my room. Complaining about not having a second floor? My CR(ass), one floor's enough for a family.

Try waiting for it to load. My Google Chrome does that, but it goes away after a second.

Hey, woah, woah, WOAH! No arguments please, we don't need a mod in here... -

Country A could also begin mining the lunar surface for silicon and use the lunar soil as a source of water (yes, water, look it up) and power. Just a kind FYI 100% agreed. Most projects (like the VentureStar, for example) get cancelled before they even get off the ground. Sometimes it even takes military interaction to keep a project going (X-37). Hopefully they do something that 1. Actually flies past the test flights and 2. Gets some actual data back. -

Agreed. Whatever the country, it's progress and that's what matters. -
Next Nation that will walk on the moon?

Actually, there would be a significant difference, as the Shenzhou spacecraft (the Chinese version of the Soyuz/Apollo) is actually about 8000kg, 7000kg below your estimate. Also, the Chinese would probably use newer, lighter materials, so I'm willing to put a lander estimate of 12000-13000kg. That's probably enough for a LOR (Both spacecraft will launch via CZ5 and do a seperate TLI, then rendevouz in LLO). The Moon hasn't really been explored - it's been estimated less than 1% (in fact, closer to 0.25%) has been explored. We could find a LOT of new knowledge by exploring the Moon more. -

Why not use the same approach as Constellation would've used? The Shenzhou could be sent up by the CZ2, then a lander sent up by the CZ5. The two would dock and the CZ5's upper stage used to do the TLI? -
Banned for not specifying a direct location in your profile.

Yep. Was down for a few hours.

Added some modules to the KSSP project.

Next Nation that will walk on the moon?

Honestly, I'm going for China. They're the only country ATM that's focusing on sending people up on a yearly basis for true exploration and scientific purposes, not just transfer missions to ISS (Not saying that isn't scientific based, just saying it's like a shuttle service - nothing special about it). They don't just send people up - they do lots of testing while they're at it. And by the way, the CZ5 is launching in 2015, WAY before the Angara or any private company in the USA (Except SpaceX, and the lifting capacity of the CZ5 exceeds that of the Falcon 9 and the Falcon Heavy). That means that: The mid-sized versions of the CZ5 exceed the Falcon 9 v1.1 by about 3000kg, and the largest version exceeds the Falcon Heavy by 5000kg. - - - Updated - - - As I said above, the CZ2 and CZ5 exceed ANYTHING the US can come up with in the near future, and it's going to launch in 2015, before the US even test-flies the SLS. If you want to say "Falcon 9!", then again, the CZ5 exceeds even the Falcon 9 in terms of lift capacity (heaviest model). -
Nice to see other people took on the job I did originally! Anyway, might wanna reorganize the OP a bit. It's a bit scattered in terms of formatting ATM. By the way, there's a new ModuleManager hotfix for 0.24.

Asymetrically EDIT: Lol, invisible text. I'm using stealth. You can't see me!

SimpleRockets is a nice 2D space sim, like KSP.
