  1. I cannot oblige, sorry I wish I had an Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
  2. .... just like Nvidia users are benefiting from MANTLE.
  3. Unlearn about sums it up. I've looked at many tutorials... repeatedly. Some are helpful, some not so much. The "flow" of creating something... or lack thereof... is what frustrates me. Keep on grinding. Sooner or later it'll click.
  4. I have a head full of ideas for parts but zero patience for Blender. A little back story. Throughout my engineering career I have used AutoCAD, ProE, Solidworks and the like. Engineering programs that are exacting in nature (and really nice revolve capability that lends itself to making rocket parts)... I became a slave to their ways of doing things in the 3D world and just can't come to grips with Blender. Are there features in Blender that I just haven't found that will allow me to model more like I have using the other programs or is is live and die by freeform modelling?
  5. lets just say there is an alternative and be thankful for the past and present efforts of modders so that maybe in the future they want to continue.
  6. Nothing unrealistic about MechJeb. If people want the unrealistic challenge of not using it, that is their business. KOS is MechJeb sans the fancy user interface and automation.... more or less. If you are game for creating code to accomplish things, KOS will keep you entertained for a long time.
  7. Well, not exactly... but as I was reading I couldn't help but notice that the inclinations are fairly low. Is that a result of the "free ride" a launch vehicle gets as a result of assuming a lower inclination?
  8. Thanks... now I gotta go fire up DOSBox and play some Mechwarrior 2. Every time I think I have that pixelated polygon mash up out of my head, somebody has to bring it up and i have to go play thru a campaign. Gaming in the early 90's didn't look very good but I swear it was more fun back then.
  9. ... About chasing the ball with MechJeb. Nothing overly scientific here but these are my observations for establishing a 100km orbit. 1) I moved the MechJeb component to the surface just aft of the cargo bay doors. the top of the command section has a wee bit of an angle to it. Not saying that this is a stone cold solid lock of a solution but I swear that MechJeb performs better now that the unit is located in a "normal" plane. 2) I linked all the engines to a single toggle for trim control (AG1). 3) I grouped the 200's (AG2) and the 40's (AG3) into individual toggle action groups. 4) Prior to orbital insertion burn I toggle the trim (AG1) and shut down the 40's (AG3). I also shed the external tank even if it has a bit of reserve left in it. 5) Orbital insertion is done with the 200's. Once orbit is established I shut down the 200's (AG2) and activate the 40's (AG3). I do not chase the ball at all. YMMV.
  10. As it stands with our current understanding of the physical universe.... Biological systems are far to fragile for any number of reasons. Electrical systems would probably wither, too. Mechanical systems would be mangled by immense forces. Gene Roddenberry scripted it all away... but he gave us inspiration for something to shoot for. Improbable, yes. Impossible, well, mankind finds ways to overcome the impossible every time it's understanding of the universe grows.
  11. Ubiquitous..... EVERYONE knows what it means. It will never be changed for that reason. Same goes for that disk icon.
  12. .... http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/59005-0-23-Release-2-15-Active-Texture-Management-Save-RAM-without-reduction-packs!
  13. Turn off brain, put DVD in, press play, enjoy two hours of nonsense, turn brain on. B5 got it as right as anyone but i didn't like it any more for that matter. It was good FICTION as were the others and I enjoyed them for that. .... Now the bus jumping scene in Speed (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111257/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_37). I have to admit I roared out "BULL 5#!7!!!!" in the middle of a packed movie theater when that happened.
  14. 1) explain to me the basics of your interstellar travel capability.... clues to develop propulsion technology. 2) explain to me the basics of your ship construction techniques.... clues to develop capable spacecraft. 3) Explain to me the basic of your environmental systems.... clues develop systems to meet physical needs of crew such as protection from the dangers of space, food, atmosphere, etc. Provided they let me go and don't eat me for dinner, Ill have information that will be valuable in mankind's pursuit of travel among the stars. ... now, how to get somebody with the ability to do anything about it to believe me when I tell them all this stuff?
  15. A simple unable to load would suffice. I seem to recall that KSP used to prompt for cleanup. Is that no longer the case? I do agree tho that wanting the ship file to load sans a necessary part is not a good idea. If parts are missing, just DON'T LOAD.
  16. There is a fine line between kerbalism and realism. Even still, awesome work.
  17. The Green button, Bob! THE GREEN!
  18. About the pens, pencils, liquids, containers and such..... Kravity. Seriously, folks need to take off the realism spectacles and put on the fun shades. KSP is a very fun toy, a whimsical experience. Not to be taken with a dash of salt but rather a sprinkle of humor.
  19. MechJeb = Gene Kranz I use it to the extent that it suits my wants, needs and desires. It's optional, and effective at what it is supposed to do. I've done most everything without it and patted myself on the back for doing so, and then moved on to letting MechJeb do it for me. Lets face it, NASA probably has dozens upon dozens of people triple cross checking a simple pitch change maneuver. I'm not going to feel bad about having MechJeb do it for me. MechJeb is simply mission control.
  20. I stopped relying on KSP to safeguard my work long ago. It's just become habit to go to the particular save folder and make backups.
  21. Not sure if you are mod averse, but there are a few assists available... MechJeb to handle all the Hohmann Transfer stuff if you are so inclined. My first few rendezvous were manual and then had enough of that. Actual docking is still done manually as its kinda fun. http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/mechjeb/ Romfarer's docking cam makes the lineup much easier and isn't out of the realm of reasonable assists. http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/lazor-docking-cam/ The docking port alignment indicator is similar to the above, just no camera. Still very informative. http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/dock-align-indicator/ Most of all, make sure you have the target stabilized so that its orientation is consisntent (switch craft using [ and ], use sas and fix its orientation however you prefer). If its just tumbling around in it's orbit, it'll be a nightmare if not impossibility.
