  1. So, with the addition of polar ice caps in 0.14.2, have any of you landed bases at the caps? My first mission (Named 'The Polar Express') was solely to determine for Kerbalkind if the mythical ice caps were real, and if they were solid. I missed the pole by a bit, but still managed to hit the sea ice, which was my target. Then, I landed two rovers right at the north pole. It\'s nearly perfectly flat for hundreds of kilometers, so PERFECT for speed tests, when I get around to it I plan on launching my Arctic Research Probe after I post this So what about you? What has been done already with this new frontier to explore?
  2. I remember trying to get into a circular orbit without time warp and without a map. There was lots of waiting back then.
  3. Genesis II: Capable of breaking Kerbol\'s gravity well, with no fuel to spare.
  4. Yeah, I love the Venture Star. However, we don\'t have those awesome anti-matter reactors or solar sails. We\'re doing it the kerbal way: with chemical rockets (or cephei\'s plugin). Too bad no one\'s taking up the challenge yet, but i\'ll continue with my project. Genesis II is in construction. It should at least be able to get to 25000 m/s. Not sure about return, and i\'ve truthfully never tried a kerbin rendezvous before, but i guess there\'s a first time for everything!
  5. Okay, starting from a Munar orbit, I can complete the last three steps of the mission. Ship (the Genesis I) has very small amounts of lag and plenty of fuel to get from the Mun to Kerbin and circularize. Pics below: The Genesis I Another view: Jettisoning Munar cargo Planetary approach stage Firing up the engines: Leaving the Mun behind: Slowing down Circularizing... Done! Orbiting Kerbin Return stage jettisoned Pods and satellite released Command stage Into the atmosphere Nearly there! SO close. I lost a landing leg at one point accidentally, and i ran out of fuel (poor descent management), so the parachutes put me down a bit hard. BUT, they\'re alive! I have also tested the pods on both Kerbin and the Mun, and they are capable of landing. The only difference between the Mun pods and the Kerbin pods is that the Kerbin pods have parachutes. There are four Kerbin pods (2m), one command pod (3m) and two comms satellites (solar panels deployed: 6 m) Now to get to interstellar space!
  6. I bet Gaby could do it. His mun missions are freaking unbelievable.
  7. Indeed. I might reduce the pod requirements to make it a tad easier. I\'m currently building mine from the bottom up. It\'s already capable of releasing pods to land on kerbin.
  8. BIG HONKING INTERSTELLAR COLONIZATION CHALLENGE! The time has come, fellow Kerbonauts, to reach out beyond our humble star, into the wild black yonder. Your mission is to build, by whatever means necessary, a ship capable of escaping kerbol\'s gravity well, being captured by another star\'s, and colonizing another world for kerbalkind. Your craft must be capable of (in this order): 1. Getting into a solar escape trajectory 2. Braking and getting back into kerbol\'s orbit (simulated 'other star') after going 2 KU\'s out (distance from kerbin to kerbol) 3. Rendezvousing with Kerbin again (The alien planet) 4. Deploying a Munar base (3 landers, 1 comms satellites) 5. Dispatching a comms satellite in Kerbin Orbit 6. And finally, landing 5 modules on Kerbin, preferably near eachother. Your landers must be more than a pod and a fuel tank. They must have a 'habitat' or 'cargo' module of some sort (the 2-meter centrifuges from this pack OR BACE modules would do nicely ). Example lander (with pod): RULES: 1. All parts are allowed, as long as they\'re relatively balanced (No c7 fuel tanks or engines and no cfg-edits). 2. Mechjeb is the only plugin required. 3. Instant orbits are allowed (only for getting off of Kerbin) 4. Post pictures (obviously) and what packs you used. Recommended packs: Probodobodyne, Silisko Edition, Deep Space Mission Pack, Truss (a bit unbalanced, but cool-looking), NovaPunch, DownUnder Required plugins: Mechjeb Bonus points if you land Rovers in addition to the colonies. I am currently working on mine, but it will take time, as I am pretty awful at this game.
  9. I have read the tutorial. Thanks for the advice! I read about smoothing groups shortly after posting this, and it seems to be going well. What is considered too high of a polycount?
  10. So it\'s my first time modelling anything, and I want to make a component. Here is what I have so far: Where should I go from here to enhance this? How do I add detail (like additional cylinders)? Also, is a simple animation possible?
  11. My god, it\'s full of fire, and death, and sta---Wait, is that Jebediah? Hi Je-- *boom* *YEEEHAW*
  12. I think they could make a lot more money if they had it for PC. I want to play these games, but since I don\'t have an X-Box, and don\'t plan on buying one, I won\'t.
  13. 'I did not cheat on that test'
  14. I noticed that the Mei Long capsule resembles the SpaceX Dragon capsule. Mei Long means 'beautiful dragon' in mandarin. Coincidence? I think NOT!
  15. About two years old, but whatever.
  16. 'MOST UNORTHODOX'-class OmniRover A new novelty craft from Bad Ideas Nuclear Weapons and Spacecraft Corporation Messing around with the new cart plugin, and built this...err...thing It can travel in any direction. The easiest way to 'launch' is to back off the launchpad. It\'s very bouncy; applications in a thrust-less Munar landing have not been ruled out. Do not try to turn it at high speeds. It has a 78.985% chance (based on a 10000-run trial series) of either flipping wildly and tearing itself apart OR spinning rapidly while not turning, and THEN tearing itself apart in a horribly violent way. And now for some images. In the VAB: On the pad: And on the move! Haven\'t tried getting it to the Mun yet; I\'m not sure if it\'s even POSSIBLE. Requires NovaSilisko\'s Probodobodyne and Tosh\'s Cart plugin Craft file attached
  17. If you don\'t mind me asking, is English your first language?
  18. I would suggest using correct spelling, grammar, and capitalization, for starters. A lack of capitalization (or too much, if you\'re one of THOSE people) will significantly reduce people\'s impressions of you, probably more than any other single factor. Seriously. No one cares how old you are, in my experience. If you type like an adult and act mature, you will be accepted (unless you\'re a pretentious ass, or belligerent). The same goes in reverse. Without proper grammar and punctuation, no matter how old you are, people will nearly ALWAYS misunderestimate (to use an apt Bushism) your intelligence, competence, and capability. They\'ll think you\'re a dumb 12-year-old., and you have to work ten times as hard to correct this. Additionally, have a sense of humor and be nice. Can\'t stress this enough. If someone tells you you\'re doing something wrong, don\'t whine. Accept your mistakes, an work to improve upon yourself. If you provide good content, like the rockets here, and you act at the Accepted Threshold of Noobity*, then you should be fine. * The A.T.N. is characterized by being new, but posting things in correct sections, using correct grammar, asking questions either in private messages or in the correct subforums, and most of all, using the search function before creating a new post. The idea is that you demonstrate an ability and a willingness to learn and, for lack of a better word, assimilate into the forum 'culture'.
  19. Very nice Munar rocket, especially the lander stage.
  20. BAD IDEAS SPACECRAFT AND NUCLEAR WEAPONS CORP presents its first foray into the Kerbal vehicular industry, ROFLCOPTER-class Rocket-propelled Helicopter. So I was trying to make one of those rocket helicopters (like the Nazis had in Captain America, couldn\'t find a picture) It worked In the VAB LIFTOFF! Pretty Smoke Torus Stalling without engines It has some interesting properties. For one, it ACTUALLY FLIES, but only to a top speed of 27.4 m/s, after which it starts stalling (and by that I mean spinning in circles slowly to the ground) If it flies out of control, just turn off the engines, no SAS required. It might straighten itself out AND land itself. It descends slowly to the ground, exploiting what I THINK is a manifestation of the infinite glide glitch. Landed! Requires Down Under Aerospace and Party Supplies (or just the Mei Long capsule), Exoplanetary Infrastructure (Absolutely necessary for the hubs), and the C7 Experimental Aviation pack If you wanted to make one yourself, you could probably do it with stock canards, (tried it and it failed miserably with all other canards) but you at least need the hubs from the ExPI addon. Make sure to move it backward in the VAB before launching or it will hit the launch tower and go all kerbal on you. I am attempting something else over the next month, as my first foray into plugin and mod-making. Let\'s just say it gives rockets a little more boom boom
