HI all, I was watching the documentary "In the shadow of the moon" and saw Neil Armstrong trying to fly it and thought that it looked like fun! So I came up with this this: Its actually very stable. Landing can be tricky due to the slow reaction of the jet engine but its possible to land it on the VAB or anywhere else with a bit of practice. If you happen to run out of fuel or have a Neil Armstrong moment you can simply eject! Yay I crashed! It has enough fuel to get to the island and back a few times. It would also be very easy to add more fuel though. I would love to take it into orbit!! That's it Astro! Well spotted. I'm thinking this could be used To build so many different things. It is very low weight too. I will post how I made them after Christmas. Merry Christmas everyone!! MJ -

Thanks Weegee, I'm very happy with the fairings. I haven't seen anyone make fairings this small That separate so nicely. *smug face* Anyone flow it? Thoughts on the fairing? MJ. -
Hi all, Ive been tinkering with new ideas for small stock fairings. I wanted a smooth looking fairing that split cleanly into two halves. I have used the technique I developed to add a nice looking small fairing for a communication satellite and built a little rocket around it. The Kom-Sat 1 rocket can put the satellite into an orbit of around 170k M around Kerbin. How to fly Launch with the throttle set to the notch that looks about half. Full throttle at 10k M and start a quick turn east or west to 45 degrees. Release the boosters when they are depleted and let the first stage burn out. Separate from the first stage and release the fairings. Circularize your orbit with the payload stage. Release the satellite and de-orbit the payload stage engine. Some pics: Its not perfect looking and would probably be too many parts if you wanted to make a larger one. But to cover a small payload its great! Thanks for looking. Stock hinges would be sweet! A long way off I think. They may come in a DLC later. And...., shhh. yeah. Meet me behind the VAB in ten mins. -

LOL! cheers dude. Thrusting phallicaly into the skies!! MJ -
Hi all, Well I have been quite busy in KSP recently and here is my second craft upload today, My version of the Chinese Chang'e 3 rocket and lander. I have taken a few liberties with sticking to maximum realism so the launcher isn't 100% accurate. But she flies very well. Here she is reaching for the heavens! Make a gravity turn to the east around 8-9k m. Discard the boosters when depleted. The central stage will take you up to an arc of around 160k m Then press X to shut down the engines and separate the third interplanetary stage and fairings. Use the IPS rocket to circularize your orbit and then shoot for the Mun. The landing stage is capable of a direct decent onto the Munar surface, slowing from around 800 mps. So ditch the IPS rocket and make that scarily quick decent!! Here the Jade Rabbit has landed To release the rover, press the next stage and the rover will pop up like an eager dog! Keeping sas on simply drive the rover out! Then just rover around taking in the sights. There it is, thanks for looking. Hi all, I have at the behest of Capt_Suggler, made a working Skylab launched with my Saturn V alike "Selene". She flies in a very similar way to the Apollo Selene. Climb to around 9k m and gravity turn east to 45 degrees. Let the first stage fully deplete then activate the next stage. Allow the stages to fully separate then fire the engines. use the second stage to increase your ballistic arc and then circularize your orbit. Fire the fairings before circularizing. Then separate the Skylab and use the last bit of fuel to deorbit the second stage. Then maneuver the solar observatory part into place. It has RCS so its just a matter of docking. And there it is! Under those Ibeams is a hitchhiker container so 4 crew. The windows are still exposed as is the entry hatch. Next will be the Saturn 1b for crew transfers. Thanks for looking. Ummm.. The camera now automatically adjusts when you enter or leave a SOI. All I want is moar parts.. And fairings.. And planets.. and chocolate. MJ

Yeah I am tempted to try another Mainsail in there. It would clip into the other nozzles though.. Perhaps a Skipper? Yup I have another version of the rover with a probe and solar panel. I was going to make that the one in the rocket but the panel clipped too much into some cubic struts and would sometimes break off.. Plus I thought that its safer to have one without something so fragile on it. Its almost indestructible as you can just repair the wheels! The batteries in there give it a good range for local exploring but with a time limit. Like real life. You just head back when its half empty. here is a pic of the solar version: MJ -
Hi Woopert. Originally I was using those Ibeam fairings for the rocket I released recently. They are so heavy that the rocket wouldn't make orbit. Even with this MONSTER first stage: The second and third stages didn't have enough thrust to push into orbit. To do it they would have to have been much larger and that would defeat the object of my 'smaller' Saturn V Launch vehicle. You should see what Mulbin had to do to Munbug after adding Ibeam fairings. Its crazy! So only use them on big rockets and try not to use them for between stage fairings too. About your fairings, by inline fairings do you mean in between stage or the nose cones? If its in between stages try and use rover bodies or the panels. Its just not worth the extra weight of the Ibeams. For the nose cones I have nothing to give.. It may be possible with stock parts to make large smooth fairings for nose cones but I have no idea how it would be done. Ive seen lots using structural panels but you are always left with sharp edged parts poking out that just don't look right. Anyway, let me know about those fairings. MJ
