You can make stock bearings. And you might be able to do wing/structural parts to act as teeth.... But i believe the stock bearings are actually separate from the main craft, so the impacts of the teeth may cause collisions. One of the issues may be that parts on the same vessel can clip through each other (like a solar panel rotating through a poorly placed com dish), so I don't see a stock solution. As Mark said, addons will probably be the route.

Add-on releases categories
Gargamel replied to Katten's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
While I agree the mods section needs something, I don't think sub forums will help too much. Good ole Space Port (The first KSP mod hosting site, I believe it was Squad run too) had sub sections, and it was hell trying to sort through search results. Too many mods cover too many types. Some parts mods also have gameplay mechanics, etc. You may not want to use Ckan to do the installs, but it has an indexed catalog of all the mods it handles. It does have some nice features for sorting and searching, with easy links to the forum threads. Spacedock's search capabilities also help. One of the problems the problem with the mods forum (and I don't have a solution nor even an inkling of an idea for a solution), is the volume. I have been on a lot of forums over the years, even moderated a couple big ones (similar size to these, minus the mods section), and I have never seen traffic/turnover like the mod release section has. I can post something in a thread there, and twelve hours later it's on page 7. It's a testament to how awesome our modders and players are, but it's also like trying count lug nuts on a highway during rush hour. Perhaps requiring a mod thread to select from a list of tags, similar to the sub catergories we're thinking of, at the time of posting (or editing!), and then revising the search engine for that sub forum to list by tags, would be a good solution, if it ever got implemented. But since this is an off the shelf forum engine, I doubt the moderators/maneTi have the will to tackle that revision. But I did get a chuckle out of this thread a bit, with @Vanamonde mentioning how some threads should be moved, and this one is a clear winner for the network sub forum, yet it's still in S&DD. @Katten, it's an excellent suggestion to a problem with, IMO, no real good solution. There's too many old threads to move. -
I saw the thread title, and thought, "Oh god help us". Firefox slowed to a crawl and somehow got a red colored clock in the corner viewing this thread. Looking forward to this..... It looks like a 747 mated with a blimp hanger and traded in the roof tiles for rocket engines.....

I have the feeling this is the first tablet you've played with. As mentioned above, the Fire is designed to work exclusively with Amazon, software and firmware. Scrounge around ebay for a couple android based tablets and throw those together like you're describing. Or get a Raspberry Pi and build a custom case and touch screen all in one. I haven't seen anything like that in the stuff I've read. The lock screen is just an ad though. I've had a 1st gen kindle, kindle on my phones, and the fire. The fire is by far the easiest to read IMO, aside from it being about a half inch to wide to comfortably hold while lying down and still being able to turn the pages easily. I hated the buttons on the sides of the Kindle for turning the pages, as you easily bumped them while handling the device. It will also stream any of the video services I have (Hulu, netflix, Amaxon prime, Vudu). Youtube is a touch tricky to get, but I can still watch it. I've ripped DVD's and blurays to mp4 and transferred them to the Fire so I could watch them anywhere. I have added a 128gb sd card, so I have the full From The Earth To The Moon series on there, a half dozen other movies, and about 50 downloaded titles from the services. I have slow internet, so streaming can be annoying at times. But for the price ($20), it was perfect for my needs. I just wanted a tablet I could read, watch videos, and play a few games. If you're looking for a full powered machine that might replace a small laptop, then this ain't it. And yeah, I do a lot through amazon, so I do like the fact I can drop into the store very easily.

Got it, ran it, like it. I've only used it for one loading so far, but initial impressions are good! Fast!!! Couple comments/requests, and some of these might already be in the mod and I just haven't found them yet: This may apply to only a few players, or maybe a lot of players. I build a lot of my stations an big ships in orbit. So I have 4-10 saved ships labeled KSS Dock or KSS Hab. It would be nice if I could apply a "KSS" tag to all the ships with KSS in the name. Some sort of find/tag feature. "Super Tags". Going along with the above, if I have 10 ships saved under the KSS tag, and the tag itself has some toggleable element to it, call it a group tag or folder tag, Then the tag KSS itself would show up as an entry on the File list, but with all the KSS ships hidden. Clicking the KSS entry would then unhide all the KSS ships. Clicking it again would re-hide them. The act of hiding/unhiding (if even possible), wold act as a sort of defacto folder system, on top of the tag system. If a ship has a "Lander" tag attached to it and a KSS "Super Tag", clicking the show lander tag option wold unhide any ships with the lander tag that also fall under a "super tag". Save Tags. When entering the name of the ship, we get the little extra description box. Maybe adding to that box a checklist of the available tags, so we can tag a ship from that screen, without having to find it int he ship list, and then tag it correctly. Love it, Can't wait to see the final refinements on it.

What is your most facepalm-worthy moment regarding KSP?
Gargamel replied to MaverickSawyer's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Straight up, hard left at minmus. -
Do what I do while waiting for the game to load, go make dinner. Use KAC stop the time warp and go do something else.

Hehehehehe.... I can see that getting the moderators all twisted up as the decide whether to add that to the list of underlined acronyms....

@katateochi, Very well done! I have been looking for something like this for a while, and nothing fit the bill. I am installing now. (One note, and I think it's on CKAN's end, but CKAN is listing 1.0.1 as current for 1.3.1, but this thread shows 1.0.2). I think this mod has the potential to end up in the same discussion as KAC, KER, etc as "should be in stock". I'm half disapointed that it's not Kraft Manager, but I'm half glad you didn't. Thanks for the work!.

Well, it is a custom OS for the Amazon system..... I mean, I was able to get a 8" tablet from them for $20 because of it. I don't mind the ads on the front page, I just ignore them. I do 90% of my shopping on Amazon, it's just easier than a 1-2 hour round trip just to reach the nearest store. Having it registered is a great thing. A Kindle Fire without an associated account just seems like a shiny paperweight to me. My only complaint is that since it's an Android fork, some of the apps I would expect to find in the store don't exist. Or if Amazon is fighting with another company, you might not find their stuff either.

Tripped getting out of the lander. Had it painfully reinforced that if the Kerbal is facing you, thrusting Left is not MY left......... -
Do cheats deactivate achievement permanently?
Gargamel replied to mikey117's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I understand needing to use cheats for a variety of limited scenarios, but I can't understand playing the game regularly with cheats. I mean, give the thing solar panels, and a bigger tank and engine for petes sake. -
Brachistochrone trajectory planning?
Gargamel replied to Norcalplanner's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'm 95% sure Manley had a video on planning Brachi's in stock KSP ( I think he was using stock KSP planets, but modded engines). But I don't know if it will help going interstellar. -
Optimal Delta V in orbit
Gargamel replied to Jestersage's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'd really think that is a "that depends" answer. If you have a huge ship, it's gonna take a lot of MP to maneuver that behemoth. If you are really really skilled, I'd think a rendezvous and docking is possible with no MP at all on a small, reactive ship, all main engine use. So I guess it depends on mission requirements and personal play style. -
KSP Future DLC Ideas
Gargamel replied to Dedpewlio's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
There are some mods out there, or combinations of mods, that would be glorious as stock. And I'm not referring to the utilities like KAC or KER. I'm referring to Life support, or planet packs, or the MK4 system, etc. With careful integration, they could do wonderful things. But...... It won't happen, not because "you can already do that with a mod", but "Nobody would buy it when a mod is free". TTI and Squad can't justify the cost of development if they can't predict the sales will be there. I know I would absolutely love to see more planets in stock, and would be happy with that as a DLC, but a lot of people would not buy it, as similar stuff is free. I know I have been saying this ad naseum, but it's not to squash anybody's ideas, but to encourage us to think out side the box in potentially helping Squad come up with a great next DLC, that we all want. -
What is your most facepalm-worthy moment regarding KSP?

Just spent a few minutes spamming the M key, trying to bring up the orbital view. Was headed here to post a bug report. Realized I was at the the KSC. -
Well, that joke would have been funnier if I had the right weekend. My Mom was sure surprised when I called to wish her a happy mother's day on Sunday....

There are surprisingly few HHGTTG mods out there. I guess that's a testament to how weird Adams made that universe. There's very few things that would work within the confines of physics. You should take a look at it. There are a lot of utility type functions in there. Contract modification is great for when you know you completed the a contract, but it won't give you credit for it. The object thrower is unbeatable when it comes to general mayhem and getting rid of unwanted things. Or turning off crash damage when you land on Mt Whoopstooshort, and need this ship to survive the roll down the mountain.

I watched one of her videos a while ago where she went through all the various versions of the Saturn, and how they were named, and how each mission was designated. I can't seem to find the video, but it's somewhere in this list: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCw95T_TgbGHhTml4xZ9yIqg/videos If you haven't seen any of her stuff, it's really worth watching. She's a true space hipster, eschewing anything from the shuttle era on. And she knows her stuff, master's degree in the topic.

Splash down sound effect too loud?
Gargamel replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Well, it's kinda like that in real life. Try racing a yacht in rough waters. Think sailing is calm and relaxing? Nope, it's a turbulent, loud, jarring, and exciting experience. -
Don't worry, Accidentally turning left into the sun is very very hard to do. It's very hard to do even intentionally. Go to a solar orbit sometime and note your velocity. You'll have to get rid of most of that to reach the sun. That's a lot to do accidentally

Suppress Part Toggle?
Gargamel replied to RedPandaz's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I like this idea, either as a mod or stock. It would help alleviate the issue of trying to move a decoupler and accidentally grabbing the main vessel. But until then, Ctrl-Z (undo) is your friend. Will let you undo any misgrabs or such.
