Wow that is quite a big craft there Overfloater, thanks for your mission reports (plus craft file). I am reading those as two parts of one mission, is that right? I see what you did with the tanks to keep the center of gravity in the same place, ingenious. Congratulations on making it to Laythe and Duna in one mission and earning the sought after Astrokerbal Distinction, as well as the highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award for a safe landing at KSC runway.

Overfloater, participate as many times as you want. Glad you are enjoying the challenge. The way I see it its cool to have something to shoot for and people to share it with. Kerbal Alarm Clock is OK as long as it does not alter the stock flight physics, as per rule 3. Good luck with the landing wasmic, let us know how it goes!

Yes NASAFanboy, K-Prize missions can land any way you like as long as it is one piece! Tarmenius, welcome back to the K-Prize challenge, thanks for your mission report, congratulations on winning an Advanced Pilot Precision Award 1stClass with the Distesa twin rapier based spaceplane for docking in orbit and landing at KSC runway. Nice attention to aesthetics with the wing shape and tailplane design btw.

Thanks for your mission report and congratulations Romphaia for completing the K-Prize challenge at last and earning the highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award 1stClass for docking Siskin in orbit and landing safely on Kerbin at the KSC runway. Welcome to the guest list for the K-Prize party! I can leave the earlier gatecrasher listing in place in the roll of honour / infamy unless you would like to have it removed, as is your right having succeeded in completing the challenge.

Congratulations Sniper-Worms for not only completing the K-Prize mission successfully but also docking with a space station and visiting the SOIs of Mün and Minmus before making a safe landing on Kerbin, for which you properly earned the much admired Kosmokerbal Commendation and the highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Cydonia. Welcome to the K-Prize party invite list aka the roll of honour. OK thanks numerobis, name fixed. GL with your Laythe mission. Dr.Moo thanks for posting your mission video set to music which provided the K-Prize committee with much entertainment, though I am sorry to say it was not possible to grant a K-Prize award for a vertical take off craft because this breaks rule #2 of the longstanding K-Prize rules! cf Cupcake's gatecrash for a precedent. So with great respect and hoping you will enjoy the notoriety and or have another go, The Cicada mission has to be linked as a gatecrasher !

numerobis, I am assuming that by LKO you mean orbit with PE > 70km and I also made up a name for your craft. Congratulations on completing the K-Prize challenge with such an unusual design and making it back to the runway, welcome to the party guest list aka roll of honour.

Yes it counts jmiki8, in fact your word is good enough, though your screenies prove that you entered a different (Minmus) SOI which counts as completing the orbital phase of the mission and even if technically the PE on exit would not be outside the atmosphere, its regarded as sufficient as the dV you need to reach another SOI would easily put you in orbit. But in your case you landed on Minmus which means you were definitely orbiting Kerbin outside the atmosphere. Thanks for your report and congratulations on earning the coveted Astrokerbal Distinction and highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award. Interesting coaxial engine mounting!

jmiki8 thanks for your mission report on Puli SAT which has successfully won the K-Prize and earned a very useful Utilitarial Commendation as well as the Advanced Pilot Precision Award for a precise landing on KSC runway. Duly linked on the guest list so I guess that is two tickets. immelman, looks like you have made it to the Laythe party with fuel to spare and accompanying honours with Big Silly Bird 3. It is a pretty select group so I think there is a snug off the lounge bar where Laythe voyagers can meet up and arm wrestle or play chequers or something glad you are enjoying the challenge, thanks and you are welcome. Damaske if I start doing that I will end up looking at one minimalist record per capsule type and I have enough trouble keeping track of one (so no) ! But you are allowed to detach a capsule before launch and transfer a Kerbal to use the chair and the capsule wont count as lift off weight. I dont know how "restore" works but it sounds like it alters mechanical properties of stock parts which would be against the rules, but I am willing to be corrected if anyone knows different. With docking it helps to set the target port as target and use "control from here" on the approaching port then setting the camera to chase can also help though the navball should give you all the info you need for RCS control, also btw 0.3m/s max final fyi.

Hi irongut, welcome to the K-Prize and thanks for your mission report. Congratulations on completing the mission successfully and earning an Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Stiletto 1a, which has an intriguing long body design with lift surfaces at both ends and plenty of illumination for docking procedures! Zack feel free to browse the first post for example missions to help you in your deliberations. Damaske, I am happy to say you are definitely in receipt of misinformation regarding mechjeb and the K-Prize. The OP states the rules clearly and all mods are allowed except those which alter stock flight physics. Mechjeb is perfectly acceptable. Personally I would encourage anyone playing KSP to experiment with manual control as it is rewarding when you get the knack and you feel like you have learnt something when you begin to understand the relationship between navball and craft flight, though I admit it can be a long and quite explodey learning curve. Xeo, OK I will leave the linking until the mission is completed. Good luck!

Congratulations jmiki8 on successfully completing the K-Prize mission with Puli Micron, earning an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for landing back at the KSC runway. Thanks for your mission report and welcome to the K-Prize party guest list aka roll of honour. Kingtj44, you can fly the K-Prize mission any way you want and the K-Prize will be awarded as long as it follows the rules held to be self evident by the K-Prize commitee, which are in the first post, which is a copy of the master rules enshrined in biro on the back of a beer mat from the Dog & Booster. In the case of your multi-role vehicle the only thing I can think of is that if it is VTOL you may need to make a special effort to make sure the craft begins the take off by moving horizontally. The rule is intended to ensure K-Prize launches are space plane launches, if the craft can move horizontally at all then that satisfies the rule, even if it needs to deploy vertical engines to lift off due to the limitations on rover wheel speeds it will satisfy the rule if it is able to start by moving horizontally. Xeo thanks for your mission report. Thanks in particular for taking the trouble to provide a screeny showing how the scooter fuel complied with the rules. The craft is clearly K-Prize capable and the Kerbal scooter is a great idea and looks cool. Unfortunately while I am sure you can solve this issue, there is still one slight snag which shows up in the screenshot entitled "Engaging RCS to help with attitude control." In this image the RCS thrusters on the scooter appear to be actively helping the craft to maintain attitude during lift off. I am sorry to say this contrvenes Rule 1 Proviso A. The original copy of the rules is smudged by an unfortunate beer stain but its still legible, just. Apparently the rule is intended to distinguish staged vehicles from K-Prize space planes. I am also seeing two pairs of LV-1R radial rockets on the scooter which obviously were not used inadvertantly in the lift off because they were not activated which is in keeping with the other efforts made to stay within the rules. So its clear that the use of the RCS blocks was an oversight and was not intentional. I hope you understand this would set a precedent which could then be abused. So how do you want to play it? Would you like the mission linked as a gatecrasher or would you prefer to do the mission in such a way it qualifies. As the mission stands there are two things that can be done to make sure it qualifies, you could deactivate the RCS blocks during the launch until after decoupling or you could use the RCS blocks but complete the mission without leaving the scooter in orbit. Up to you.

Congratulations Mesklin (and thanks for your mission report), your successful mission to Laythe, making adept use of aerobraking to save fuel, qualifies for the highly prestigious Expeditionary Astrokerbal Distinction and the landing at KSC runway earns an Advanced Pilot Precision Award. Good going! That is quite an achievement.

Congratulations to Broman for successfully completing the K-Prize challenge and launching a satellite into orbit which has earned the illustrious Utilitarial Commendation and an invite to the K-Prize party which promises to be a very popular event. Welcome back to Mesklin who successfully landed a finely balanced craft on the Mün and returned to brag about it at KSC runway no less. A remarkable feat considering the humble rocket in question and modest fuel payload, but yes it is possible... I checked . Congratulations on earning a much sought after Astrokerbal Distinction along with an highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award. May I ask what the grey bulge between the two uppermost air intakes is, is it a Stayputnik Mk1 ?

Pro tip there from Spartwo, thanks for your mission report video with Sabre, nice paintjob. Also good piloting despite an apparently low FPS which earned an Advanced Pilot Precision Award. Welcome back to the K-Prize roll of honour. RTK thanks for showing your craft and mission report. Your penchant for rulebreaking has been noted in the gatecrashers list !

Not false. If you are carrying extra engines they slow down the final velocity as they are extra mass, what they do is convert more fuel to thrust per second but the total acceleration for the crafts fuel supply is reduced by the engine mass. Some designs I dump lifter engines once in orbit but leave the tanks.

No canon, HarvesteR said he would not weaponise space.... lol sorry.

Look here! I found a use for the lab!
boolybooly replied to KvickFlygarn87's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Absolutely true KvickFlygarn87 took me a few missions to figure it out first play through. This is my current version taking on the Mun, I am doing all 15 biomes, 2 per landing with a hop between, then moving on to Minmus and maybe there will be enough fuel for Duna or even Jool. This is the second mission in a new career game in which I am trying to complete the tech tree in two missions (first got approx 2485 from Mun orbit, Minmus landings and minimal Kerbol SOI transit, enough to get nuke, gravitometer and docking but had to forego barometer). What you are seeing here is a nuclear lander with boosters and an optional skycrane module attached to a skylab and a load of fuel. The optional skycrane allows the lander to take more fuel along for demanding landings like (hopefully) Laythe or Duna or the Muns N pole from equatorial orbit. It also has two atmo sensors built in but for most Mun landings the nuke engine allows the lander to start without the skycrane and with two lateral small tanks empty, to save fuel. -
Space kraken thread: Post your kraken encounters here!
boolybooly replied to InterCity's topic in KSP1 Discussion
OK here is an archive bug report video for the original torque inducing Space Kraken bug long since fixed by the Kraken'sbane update. Note this is at high speed in Kerbolar orbit before the other planets were added. After the SAS is disengaged at 0:25 the pitch and roll indicators are static during these clips, all torque is induced by the Kraken. -
Oh sorry British_Rover I didn't notice the missing parts first time through, I can move the link to the gatecrashers roll. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter.

Welcome back to the K-Prize immelman, congratulations on earning the coveted Expeditionary Astrokerbal Distinction for your Duna landing and highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award for the safe return to KSC runway with Big Silly Bird 2, which has clearly had much thought put into its development with three pairs of delta wings for lift on Duna, a high air intake to turbojet ratio, twin Rockomax 48-7S and lightweight Mk1 Lander Can to improve the thrust to mass ratio. I can see why the undercarriage placement could make landings unstable on rough terrain since the rear pair are quite close together, a pair on the lower wings might be more stable but only if you can get them aligned and reinforced to prevent flexing, which with the current state of the SPH is trickier in practice than you might suppose, gl hf !

Good luck with Laythe numerobis, its a long way! It can be done but there are only an elite few K-Prize winners who have. Just Ctrl-F "Laythe" on the first page to see them. British_Rover, am I right that you have completed a K_Prize mission with MINI_CANER? (Screenies not in order fyi.) Assuming so then congratulations and welcome back to the roll of honour though it looks like your Kerbal just missed the runway.

Welcome back to the guest list sploden with a minimalist record for 0.23 and Advanced Pilot Precision Award. Thanks for your report and congratulations. Redshift OTF, thanks for your mission report, congratulations on completing the K-Prize mission successfully with your lightweight craft Cormorant XI and earning an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for landing on the runway. Mechjeb is perfectly OK to use, I don't myself but that just personal taste. btw [imgUR] tags on this BB work best with just the code without #0 and no preceding url fyi. Hi PatchouliKnowledge, thanks for giving us a mission report with your first post. I am guessing that the frescos of His Noodliness did not add to the lift characteristics in any way, on which basis your FSM themed craft Crow Tengu earned an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for a precise landing on the KSC runway fair and square. Congratulations and welcome to the K-Prize party guest list aka the roll of honour.

Overfloater, interesting design there for Space Plane Mk1, an atomic biplane, with extra steampunkily crossed struts, which somehow seems to suit the Kerbal Space Program. Thanks for your mission report and congratulations on completing the K-Prize with flying colours, including a lainding on Minmus and a return to the KSC runway for which you earned the prestigious Astrokerbal Distinction as well as the highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award. PS Merry Christmas everyone
