Tortoise, what sal_vager said. Hi Overfloater, thanks for your video report of a successful mission to Laythe with the advanced looking Andromeda. Liked the vehicles btw and the space truck was a nice touch . You have indeed earned an Expeditionary Utilitarial Distinction which includes an Expeditionary Astrokerbal Distinction as well as an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for getting back to KSC runway in one piece. Welcome back to the roll of honour and the K-Prize party for which you now have 6 tickets! PS I have set out a clear definition of a planet for purposes of the K-Prize as I was confusing myself over Laythe.

Rastapopolous, mechjeb is perfectly within the rules as it does not alter the lift or thrust of the craft. Remkeau, thankyou for your mission report and congratulations on getting the enormous Phendrana 6-D into orbit with payload which has taken the maximalist record holder top spot at 150.76t combined liftoff weight, if I have done my sums correctly. Also for completing the K-Prize mission while depositing a 36t orange fuel tank in orbit you have earned the universally admired Utilitarial Commendation and for landing safely at KSC runway an Advanced Pilot Precision Award. Welcome to the K-Prize guest list aka roll of honour. cheeseit thankyou for your mission report on the flight of the Donut and congratulations on building on your previous success. The flight to Münar orbit earned the prestigious Kosmokerbal Commendation as well as an universally admired Utilitarial Commendation for dropping a satellite into Münar orbit. Returning safely to KSC earned an Advanced Pilot Precision Award despite the hiccups with Donut's center of mass. Welcome back to the K-Prize party guest list aka the roll of honour.

cheeseit congratulations on completing the K-Prize mission and earning the highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award by achieving orbit and landing the Small SSTO on the KSC runway. Welcome to the roll of honour aka guest list. Landge congratulations on achieving the objective of your mission to place a satellite in orbit around Minmus, in the process completing the K-Prize mission and gaining the prestigious Kosmokerbal and Utilitarial Commendations as well as an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for bringing SSTO VindiGator Mk 0.23.5 safely back to land at the KSC runway. Welcome back to the guest list aka roll of honour DrMoo the K-Prize committee extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Camlin Kerman and all survivors of the ill fated Minmus mission which saw Camlin's rocket bike lose control over Minmus' unforgiving surface and crash with a full tank of fuel due the loss of electrical power to the capsule reaction wheels. Though it cast a long shadow over the proceedings, the accident did not disqualify the mission which continued to successfully achieve the highly prestigious Astrokerbal and Utilitarial Distinctions for delivering a payload to the surface of Minmus and an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for returning, albeit missing a crew member, with Condor EX-VIII Experimental SSTO. RIP Camlin we will not forget you. Welcome to the K-Prize guest list and roll of honour (at last) and let me know if you would like your gatecrasher entry removed as is your right now you have completed the mission successfully, should you wish it.

Kokanee, Utilitarial Distinctions are awarded to missions which deliver a payload to a planetoid or planetary surface. If they are outside Kerbins SOI then they are given the Exploratory or Expeditionary prefix which distinguishes between moons and planets respectively. For the purposes of the K-Prize, asteroids would count as planetoids ie same as moons FYI.

Kahlzun thanks for your mission report on the flight of the innovative and effective Flood, with clear evidence of orbit and welcome back to the guest list for the K-Prize party with a successful orbit and precise landing at the KSC runway. Kokanee, congratulations on achieving your goal of an Utilitarial Commendation with an efficient satellite drop and pick up mission which also earned an Advanced Pilot Precision Award 1st class for the precisely piloted General Kuznetsov Class Cargo Drone, for docking in orbit as well as landing on KSC runway. TeeGee thankyou for your liftoff report which is quite a cliff-hanger as we eagerly await the orbit and landing report! Your word is good enough, you just have to say what you did, but currently without further screenies or commentary the mission is not complete, though it can be linked as a gate crasher if you would like. sdj64 thankyou very much for your mission report on the extraordinary flight of Nidhogg. In addition to a well earned Expeditionary Utilitarial Distinction (Duna 24.15t) and an Advanced Pilot Precision Award, the landing on Duna deserves an Expeditionary Astrokerbal Distinction and the larger than average lift off weight of the craft also garnered the distinction of becoming the current maximalist record holder at 137.05t if I have kept track correctly of all other missions. The ion gliders were a great idea for exploration and an entertaining innovation and I appreciate the lengths you went to to keep the mission within the K-Prize rules, so thankyou once again, congratulations on achieving your goals and welcome to the K-Prize party guest list.

Kokanee, congratulations on completing the K-Prize mission successfully with the Spirit of Collective Socialism. Your highly cooperative Kerbals did slightly better than expected in one sense, earning an Advanced Pilot Precision Award 1st class for both docking in orbit and landing at KSC runway in the same mission. However I am sorry to say that a Kerbal does not count as payload for purposes of the K-Prize as they have negligible (i.e. no) mass even though the components used to carry them do. In order to qualify for a Utilitarial Commendation you need to take hardware up and leave it in orbit. As long as it weighs more than zero it will qualify. However your heavy duty design was a complete success otherwise so welcome to the K-Prize party guest list aka the roll of honour.

Sorry not to get back to you earlier sdj64, it is a tricky question and I wanted to think about it. K-Prize is primarily about testing reusable spaceplanes, the problem with wings is they help with lift and just as payload engines cannot be used so payload wings cannot be used within the K-Prize rules, so it would be a gatecrasher unless... the ion glider returned to the vehicle and redocked for return to Kerbin, when it would count as a K-Prize mission, because the ion glider would count as a detachable part of the craft, not a payload. There are a few precedents for that. But the achievements of the glider or main body on their own would then not count for the K-Prize, only the achievements of the complete craft, both ion glider and main body together. If the glider detached before dropping a payload for example then the payload would only be counted as delivered to the point at which the craft split. I hope that makes sense !

Thanks for your mission report and clarification oarum, congratulations on completing the K-Prize mission successfully and landing the quad winged (dragonfly like) twin aerojet with single T30 powered double bi-plane precisely on the KSC runway for which you have earned the illustrious Advanced pilot Precision Award and a place on the guest list for the K-Prize party (aka roll of honour).

Oarum your word is good here but you need to say that you completed the mission according to the rules in the first post or show that you did with unequivocal screenshot evidence (none of the screenies you are showing provided proof that the craft left Kerbin SOI or reached orbit with PE > 70km). I did ask you the relevant questions in my previous post, which you must have missed since you did not answer. Here it is again... g00bd0g, crew and fuels dont count as a payload delivery for the Utilitarial awards, fuel usually gets an advanced pilot precision award by docking. If hardware with mass is dropped in orbit then that gets a Utilitarial award so containers OK if they have mass and they meet the rules in the first post.

*claps* well played SeanMirrsen, thankyou for your re-mission report and congratulations on completeing the K-Prize challenge successfully in style and elegance with Pretty Fly 2.1 and earning an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for buzzing the tower and landing at KSC runway. She does look quite the hot rod with a pair of muscular looking rapier power plants with nacelles and evidently has good lift and maneuverability. Welcome back to the list of persona grata for the K-Prize party.

oarum, I cant see that, fyi used the Imgur allbum code to display albums without # inside [imgur] tags on this BB. Did it make orbit with pe > 70km and land safely ? What is its name? RocketScientistV done and done, congratulations on completing the K-Prize mission without losing any parts Your word is good enough here but FYI none of the orbital screenies you included were proof positive that the PE was > 70km. There was one shot of AP (with details of another craft) time to AP and craft velocity on the navball which might be possible to use to calculate full orbit but I dont have the time or energy. A challenge for someone else if anyone feels up to it. gchristopher, thanks for your reply and for observing the K-Prize rules, congratulations on successfully completing the K-Prize challenge and earning an Advanced Pilot Precision Award 1st class for docking in orbit and landing Hot Dog Bun on KSC runway. Its an unusual and interesting mission, payload delivery from orbit to ground which is the first time I have seen this in the K-Prize challenge. So it sets a precedent and for the record the fact that the payload did not in any way contribute to the flight or thrust of the vehicle meant that it did not break the single stage rules so it is allowed. Welcome to the guest list aka the roll of honour. SpaceK531, thanks for your latest mission report. Congratulations on earning an Utilitarial Commendation for delivering a payload to orbit and an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for landing at the KSC runway. The fact that the payload had non stock tanks did not factor in the mission because the tanks were shown to be inactive. Sorry to read about the technical problems with the payload but glad that the exploding stool worked for you! Party invites are in the post

godefroi, thanks for your mission report, congratulations on successfully completing the K-Prize mission with the effective K-Prize Spaceplane. You also earned the soght after Advanced Pilot Precision Award for landing at the KSC runway. Welcome to the K-Prize party guest list. SpaceK531 thankyou for your mission report on the flight of the Lumbering Beast. Congratulations on winning the K-Prize and earning the highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award in the process. Welcome to the guest list (aka roll of honour) of the exclusive K-Prize party. gchristopher, thanks for your mission report, very innovative and interesting technique, one question. Did the SporkLift thrusters assist with the initial landing of the combined vehicle in any way? RocketScientistV thanks for your mission report, nice paint job! Sorry to say the broken solar panel counts as not landing intact. So do you want to the mission to be linked as a gatecrasher or will you try again ? Sean Mirrsen thanks for your mission report. Since the RCS blocks are non stock thrusters and were used in the flight that has to be a gatecrasher, looks good though

The top wing has an interesting almost pentagonal shape Cinocal, lots of lift surfaces with the second set of dorsal wings. I guess you are aware that the FAR mod changes lift physics, so the question is whather you want your mission post linked as a gatecrasher or whether you would prefer to do a K-Prize mission?

OK great, thanks for clarifying Mecha Pants, then the second mission did in fact earn the highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award 1st class for docking in orbit and landing on the KSC runway, which has duly been recognised on the guest list roll of honour.

Well that sounds perfectly reasonable Mecha Pants and in fact I have adjusted the rules to make that scenario count and catch up with the new partial tank launch capability in this version. BTW when you say the tank was locked did this include the RCS thrusters as well or were they used in the launch?

OK thanks for explaining, I see, seems to working again now. -
As long as they take off horizontally Sean, btw your gate crasher link is ready... Mecha Pants, thanks for your mission report congratulations on completing a bonafide K-Prize mission with a well earned Utilitarial Distinction for balancing a big station module on the effective Arrow V Cargo SSTO delivery vehicle in the first mission. Nice to see a runway turnaround on refuel and launch and the second mission as an interesting and satisfying completion of the first mission. Can you clarify the monopropellant status? Looking at the screenies the monopropellant tank does not appear to be full on delivery. Since the second mission was not originally intended to be a K-Prize mission it would be understandable if the rules followed were not K-Prize rules. Was it launched part empty? Or was some monopropellant used in the orbital maneuvers taken from the payload tank? Not sure if the mission met the K-Prize decoupling proviso rules. Redwizard000 thankyou for your mission video and the record of the exploits of Space Moth Mk I. Your word is good here. Congratulations on completing the K-Prize mission successfully and making a somewhat safe landing without any parts breaking off, which frankly was a minor miracle ! Welcome to the K-Prize party. noname117 thanks for your interesting mission report on the flight of the Caracara with IVA cockpit perspectives. Congratulaitons on completing the K-Prize mission successfully and earning yourself an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for landing safely on the KSC runway. Welcome to the K-Prize party guest list aka roll of honour.

I have been trying to update the K-Prize challenge thread roll of honour post, which is in the first post. When I press edit I get a blank edit box with no text in it. I suspect that if I try to save that it will erase the post so I haven`t tried. I cannot edit the roll of honour to add people or shorten it, or make a back up of the HTML, likewise I cannot edit the even longer post lower down that page with the previous rolls listed. But I can edit a shorter post below that from the same page and time, so it is not date and must be the length of the posts causing edit to break. My guess is someone has tweaked something to limit post sizes and I would like to ask it if it can be tweaked so that I can save the K-Prize roll else the thread's roll of honour mechanic is lost with all hands.

TeeGee the question is did they do the K-Prize mission? Its not a question of proof, your word is good enough, but if you look at what you posted you have not stated that they did complete the mission. My psychic skills are not always 100% reliable so you are either going to have to say it out loud, or provide proof, if you would prefer. jqhullekes similar question for you, did it ever land... safely ie intact ? PUNiSH3R likewise. Thanks for your mission report, interesting lightweight craft. Did it actually make orbit ? I have to ask before adding it to either of the lists if it made orbit with PE oer 70km because the screens don't show a complete mission and you didnt state this any other way. Problem is the screens dont show a PE shot and show the craft at close to AP travelling at 2272.2m/s, the penultimate screen shows a max altitude (AP) of 76533m, this works out with a PE of 62km. So if it made orbit with a PE over 70km in between screenies just say so and I can add it to the roll of honour. Else I can link it as a gatecrasher if it didnt and if you would prefer this, otherwise linking can wait for a completed mission. FCISuperguy thanks for you mission report and congratulations on your Kosmokerbal Commendation for orbiting the Mün with the revamped KSV Phoenix. You will find it added beneath your previous mission record. Overfloater thanks for you video of Astroliners extraordinary adventures which earned an Expeditionary Astrokerbal Distinction for landing on Laythe along with and Advanced Pilot Precision Award 1stClass for docking with a space station and bringing it back to KSC runway, that is quite a feat considering how high it must have made the CoM but I guess the docking port was centrally placed and the station capsule would have helped with torque. Well flown. Naten thanks for your mission report and congratulations on earning an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for completing the K-Prize mission and landing the Aquarius-C safely at the KSC runway. I am pretty sure those mods are all fine. Welcome to the K-Prize roll of honour. Hejnfelt, as long as the B9 landing gear doesn't alter flight characteristics as per the OP rules it will be fine. Welcome back to the K-Prize and thanks for your mission report on the diminutive but effective WASP SSTO, which earned an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for landing on the KSC runway.

I just want to say 0.23.5 is a thing of beauty. Its really pleasing to see the rockets fly so gracefully now, the junction fix and new parts have given it something of that NASA elegance which is a wonder to behold. Thanks, please keep going!
-
What do YOU want to see in 0.24?
boolybooly replied to MaverickSawyer's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I need an economic challenge. Currently its far too easy to complete the research tree with unlimited parts. I need economic limitations to restrict the size of my craft and allow me to develope ingenious ways to wangle round them. -
Hi FCISuperGuy welcome to the K-Prize challenge, thanks for you mission report on the flight of the compact looking KSV Phoenix. Congratulations on your Advanced Pilot Precision Award for docking in orbit and returning to land safely on Kerbin, which has earned you a place on the guest list for the K-Prize party. To answer your question, yes a free return counts, just visiting another SOI qualifies for the Kosmokerbal Commendation. Thanks for your screenies TeeGee, interesting range of craft making use of the adapters to increase air intake. Did any of these complete the K-Prize mission?

OK since noone has the nous to bribe me to tell the story I will tell you anyway, but I still want mi pint o' rum arrr, it all began long long ago.... Originally the term "Kraken" was coined to distinguish the twisting movement which occurred when a ship left Kerbin SOI from the CTD resulting from a Space Dragon attack. Space Dragon (named after the MoO1 star system exploration hazard) was not a famous bug, as it only used to crash your PC when you went too far beyond the sun. This was before Kerbin was given an orbit, when the sun had no gravity but was a body and you could timewarp past it, see Solar Explorer link in sig. In those days few dared to venture that far from Kerbin as they knew well enough that "there be dragons". So after star orbit was added entering Kerbol orbit increased your speed relative to the SOI dramatically causing the floating point twist aka Kraken, a new kind of monster for a new kind of cosmos. For some reason having an asparagus ship made the Kraken much worse, so it would even attack when orbiting Kerbin. Someone who wishes to remain nameless (ok it was me) dedicated several arduous minutes to reporting this bug and in subsequent discussion dubbed it the Kraken to distinguish it from the Space Dragon partly in celebration of Capt Skunky's pirate chimp avatar which looked most piratical and also in memory of poor Davey Jones' pet in Pirates of the Caribbean which was popular at the time and implicated in the global warming / flying spaghetti monster debate which raged through conspiracy theory threads in forums across the world and inspired much existential deliberation and mud flinging. Kraken has been hated and cursed by space mariners for many a season, hunted to extinction, some even called it innappropriate. But from one small act of innocent meme engineering many offspring have sprung and the name Kraken is now known throughout the Kerbal universe as the true source of all our woes.

Getting the "Leonopteryx" to Laythe as a SSTO is an achievement in its own right RebelFreedom and it can become a K-Prize mission (with its own listing beneath your name) if it gets back to Kerbin safely, otherwise your post linking it can be linked as a gatecrasher entry if you would prefer.
