Very close to the fuselage/engine; it will hit the ground just barely before your engine and thus save you from a tailstrike RUD.

Try placing your gear vertically so the wheels are not running on an angle. If that doesn't work, place them further outboard. If that doesn't work, place your gear in a configuration that ensures an "upward" position (nose pointing slightly above horizon). If the problem persists yet, strut everything. If that doesn't work, try 4 wheels instead of 3, 6 wheels instead of 5, etc. If all of that fails, you may consider building a new plane.

It took 18 minutes just to crash into a plane.

Perhaps creating a new resource and applying it to every commend pod? If it ticks down per time, you could eventually trigger something like extreme overheating of the command pod (insta-death). You would also need "supply packages," or parts that contain sanity. Checking courage/stupidity/BadS numbers would be a bit more difficult.

Blazing Angels 2 was always fun. Realistic plane-handling - No, very arcadey. Dog-fighting - Yes! Real planes, like the Spitfire or ME109 - Yes, lots of prototypes.
