  1. Bollox....heh..I like that word
  2. Like everyone else I've been playing and enjoying the .22 update. Got rid of mechjeb (which incidentaly gets rid of all delta v readouts) I've suprised myself with some of the designs. One is stranded on the moon with jeb but the mk2 design gets to the mun and back (as well as minmus and back) Its nice to be re visiting the stuff i dont do much in sandbox. I havent been to minmus for months! However all the science was to save up for spaceplanes! Now i've unlocked the turbojet I'm doing my first ever trip around kerbin in a plane. I'm halfway round...not sure if i will make it home though. I wish there was some way to disable re-entry effects when just flying normally. Maybe change them to the white effect you get when you come in really fast just after the re entry effect. The new patch really does make you come up with some innovative designs. I always used to put solar panels on my stuff. Only now do i realise how far you can get with just batteries! I hope currency is in the next patch!
  3. From the Wiki A synchronous orbit is achieved at an altitude of 2 868.75 km and a speed of 1 009.02 m/s. From a 70 km low equatorial orbit, the periapsis maneuver requires 676.5 m/s and the apoapsis maneuver requires 434.9 m/s. A semi-synchronous orbit with an orbital period of ½ of Kerbin's rotation period (3 hours or 10800 seconds) is achieved at an altitude of 1 585.18 km with an orbital velocity of 1 271.28 m/s. The Hill sphere (the radius around the planet at which moons are gravitationally stable) of Kerbin is 136 185km, or roughly 227 Kerbin radii
  4. Today i discovered how to use rcs thrusters to dock my craft together...it makes docking almost too easy!
  5. A quote from the op link in reply to the "its a failed star" comment
  6. Dont get me wrong, that sounds pretty good but how is it different to, say, eve? or the x series? what makes this game different or better than those? (im not inciting an argument i'm asking a question) Say i want to work for the military, how do i go about this. Is the military an npc governed body or is absolutley everything player controlled? Is it a case of Land on planet a, Grab generic quest b, attack npc at given location? Are players going to pay money to own planets and reap the rewards (such as that wierd online game/casino "calypso") This sounds like nothing new (not that i mind) but the homepage suggests this is groundbreaking stuff? This is probably because they are wanting donations so i can sort of see why they are doing it. I guess i should attribute some of my worries to the fact that the game isnt even close to release so the actuall gameplay mechanics are still being discussed/designed. The reason i loved eve so much is cos im a sad industrialist so mining and having my own production chain really apealed to me so why do i want to play this over eve for example. Again im not trying to incite an argument I'm genuinley curious. I've been let down by this sort of game development before. All the promises and not seing all of them. This is sort of has me asking questions. They almost put too much effort into drumming up money than making a game. Theres a reason its called "donating" and not "investing" or "early access purchase" (like ksp)
  7. I've played freelancer but none of the others. However the page doesnt seem to give any "In the game you will be doing this" I get that I can do whatever i want but what can i want? Dont get me wrong it doesnt take much for me to buy and enjoy a game its just that "about the game" page is to overcomplicated. If im a gamer who just stumbles across this game on a forum (like i have) the actual details of the game arent exactly in your face with that page. I will put it on my "keep an eye on" list. TBH i would be quite pleased if it was just freelancer but for 2015. NO MMO is Buy once play forever. They are either subscription or free to play. I prefer subscription based which is why i asked (I also said pay to play before, I meant free to play IE. You dont have to buy it and can play it for free but have the option of spending IRL cash for in game stuff)
  8. I dont use launch windows anyway I cant be bothered to wait. But doing the plane change whilst escaping might be a good idea. So far i have just been escaping kerbin SOI and doing my plane change in solar orbit then starting the transfer. Takes so much dv just trying to match moho's pe!
  9. Can someone give me the run down of what this game is going to be about? I'm not a fan of their home page. When im looking at games to get hyped up about they normally have a paragraph at the top of the page describing what the game is essentially about. From what i can gather it is a sort of eve/the x series mashed up together. I get worried when there is this much reading to do on an "about the game" page...it always seems suspicious almost like a salesman trying to sell me a big screen tv with insurance. Is it pay to play or subscription? I guess pay to play as you get X amount of game credits when you donate. When is this even expected to be completed?
  10. I really enjoyed it until, like Rlathon, the monster at the end. I mean...it wasnt the worst thing but i thought it was very unimaginative. All those random radiation spikes and waht not and it turns out just to be some lifeform that hunts things on the surface...There must be alot going on, on the surface if this creature likes to hang around near it and start hunting landing craft. Also, no one was left on the orbiter? or is my memory causing me issues and the whole ship went to land? I cant remember now. I seem to recall a reason no one stayed but cant quite remember!. HOWEVER! Im not one to forget the good bits and my favourite bit was the view of jupiter from the surface of the moon. I know we were all sitting there telling that woman to get a move on astop looking at jupiter...but i would have done the same. Not every day you get to see it like that. At first i was hesitant of the style in which it was filmed but after 20minutes or so it really seemed to fit the film! Conclusion:would watch again. Sunshine was another massive dissapointment! It was really enjoyable up to the point it stopped being a sci fi film about getting to the sun and it turned it to a terrible space horror film...What a let down
  11. CSU Accomodation Partners Meeting EDIT: I'm on a work machine with a gorup login
  12. MOHO...Because its so damn elusive and warm (not that i know how warm it is cos i cant get a ship there!). I have 12 kerbals aimlesly floating around space after several failed moho attempts. I'm currently at 5500ms of dv from a kerbin orbit...and i still cant get there...let alone get home again!
  13. EDIT: Note to self. Read more than the first 2 pages
  14. With all jobs replaced by machines and no economy...sounds like bliss to me (there will always be an economy weather it be dollars, gold, or bottle caps. There will always be something of worth to trade) With all of humanity free to do whatever who knows what could happen? We might all kill eachother, the religous might wage war against the machine, or we might travel to a distant galaxy.
  15. Im aware of this and you make a valid point. However like someone has stated alot of people dont care. They have finished school and have their various qualifications and are stuck in the first long term career they find. Ask various people around and very few people care. Global warming is not my problem, i will let the leaders deal with it. This is the general mentality of the world (in my opinion) Not only the U.S but most of the developed world. I just asked one of the cleaners at work as i type this. The reply was "Im not sure if its a problem so im not really fussed" She has her job, she will let the betters deal with the problems. Everyone is so against communism yet they all have the mentality of a communist. I.E Let the government deal with it/make the decisions whilst i do the job I am given. Ok maybe its not communism but you might see what I'm getting at. I dont want to start a big political "how dare you call me a commie You deserve to goto jail" as thats not what im saying A sad as it sounds KSP has re ignited my love of physics and astronomy...This doesnt help the world in any way however so maybe I should go back to college and maybe try to work for the ESA? Is that economically viable for me and my family however? probably not so i am stuck where i am contributing to the world by recycling my plastics.
  16. Maybe a fourth "Disaster" deck That you draw once you craft is in space. Something like "Landing leg diagnostics have determined the gaffa tape has fallen off. You will have to land without legs...legless!" "your docking port has malfunctioned, you may no longer dock with other objects"
  17. Alot of good points have been made in this thread (along with some less good points, notice i didnt say bad) But i guess that "Global Warming" is a problem. Is it the greatest? Only time can tell However i agree with NGTOne Im not sure weather its lack of proper education or lack of access to any old education. The unfortunate and maybe ironic thing is that most Childeren and young adults dont really want to learn...and they probably dont want to learn some of the generic crap that is thrown there way through various generic curriculums. EDIT: Gonna put in a correction right here. Those in the more developed world dont really have learning at the top of the agenda and those in less developed parts just want to learn but dont know what to learn about because...well...they havent been taught anything yet! aarrrgghhh its a vicious circle. Why cant we just go back to the middle ages where everything was magic and the will of god! Those were simpler times. I spent a whole half a term on photosynthesis and the water cycle. Sure i understand the basic concept now but its something that a)im not interested in and i did not need to spend half a year learning (half arsed learning) about a subject i couldnt give a crap about so i would have learned it badly. Adults on the other hand want to learn about specific subjects. I expect everyone here has a great interest in space and ,to a lesser degree, physics. I would love to go back to school and learn nothing but astronomy and physics (and math because physics) but back when i was at school all i wanted to learn about was how to catch sithilis. So in essence i guess we are our own problem. If only communism was global and not fraught with poor leadership (but thats a discussion for a totally different forum)
  18. Wasnt sure weather to mark as a suggestion or a discussion so went for the latter. I may well be the only one but it seems like my kerbals and a few of my lighter vehicles seem to slide areound a bit too much. I've been doing a lot of MUN stuff recently and have noticed that my kerbals slide an awfully long way when they fall down a hill...just sliding and sliding. I know that in reality you would probably do alot of rolling around as if you slipped down a hill on the moon but it just seems so unnatural in ksp. Am i the only one who sees this? I am pretty stupid
  19. Unfortuntaley i dont think the majority of the general public really care about anything that goes on above us any more. Its more of the same that has been in the world of science since the beginning. You cant get the funding for something thats just out there hoping to find something of scientific merit. No president in his right mind would adress U.S citizens and say "We're funding a new space station to do further research in space" because critics would argue that its not researching for a specific goal. It would just be sitting up there doing sceince stuff until something lifechanging happens. BAH! I dont explain it very well (i'm not sure but there might even be a name for it) but would you rather spend your taxes on A:A space station studying space or B:A Large facility that is working on a cure for stupid? (obv a hypothetical situation) I'm bias in this matter but most people in power would rather put their peoples money into a specific branch of research than something as broad as "Studying the effects of zero g on various experiments" ...I still dont explain it very well. Dont worry I'm off to go kill off the last brain cells with some much needed antifreeze! EDIT: Just remembered. I think its called blue sky research or something like that. Professor Brian Cox explained it in one of his many documentaries
  20. EDIT Pressed enter to soon I've been reading this thread for the past week or so and its quite intruiging. I didnt think this kind of argument was even possible to have on the internet any more. I have 2 things to say. 1:Its quite a thought provoking argument mainly because there are no clear boundries. There is no defined "space race" no one has stated when the space race started (well there might be a start point) and and what point it can be classed as ended. There is no clear and conscise answer (which is why im surprised it hasnt decended into various "yo momma" insults) KUDOS internet forum 2:I would quite like to get the opinions of non US citizens/ NATO country (as they will have strong feelings one way or another) and the opinions of someone who did live in the soviet union. I'm sure theres people who have posted that meet these requirements but i do wonder if the Stereotyped US view of "U.S.A!!!! U.S.A!!!! U.S.A!!!! AMERICAAAAA F*** YEH" effects peoples opinions even if it did happen 40 odd years ago
  21. I got a webcam for christmas last year however i only had 3 days of clear sky for months so these are my very first attempts as I was having some issues with the brightness of jupiter!. I only have a manual eq mount as I'm saving for a much better setup so I have to stand there looking at the live view whilst turning the slomo controls by hand. These are phone shots from my first ever day with a telscope i borrowed from a friends mum and spent about 4 hours in -3 degreesc just watching jupiter and her moons move through the sky. These were takenby holding my phone camera upto the eyepiece. And these were taken with my orion webcam and 5x (or was i 3x? i havent been out in months ) barlowe lense. Random moon Random jupiter I've seen people get better shots of jupiter with the same camera but i think the focal length of my scope is a bit short. Obv its geared up towards observing so i cant really complain. The first shot of jupiter is a pretty good representation of what it looks like with the human eye i think. When people ask what stuff looks like through a scope i show them that pic and say it looks something like that.
  22. I took a picture of jupiter once Im not very good at taking pictures
  23. I dunno, some of them satellites are pretty darn bright
  24. Jupiter and venus dont move through the sky at night, they sort of sit there As a side note jupiter is pretty visable around 1am in the northern hemisphere atm. It will get earlier as the winter sets in. Ive yet to get a good view of venus as everywhere on my horizon has got trees in the way Although this does raise the point that you cant see distant planets at night or when in space in ksp. Just a small starry object thats easy to differentiate between the background would be quite cool.
