Can a satalite look though a window?
KerbMav replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in Science & Spaceflight
That would be to easy and no fun at all! -
Set up a rendesvouz with a Kethane tanker and the space station, due in five orbits or 1day+ - I will take it and launch other things in the meantime. New Eve lander is up in orbit and waiting for a transfer window - KAC tells me one year plus ... will look into my maneuver nodes if I can find an earlier one at higher costs. Designed a new Mun lander Kerpollo style making full use of the new engines power.

Gravity Movie --- Factual mistakes and goofs (SPOILERS obviously)
KerbMav replied to TeeGee's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Did you even want an answer? If everything you complained about is completely unrealistic, what answer could anyone give you if mentioning it being a movie is forbidden? For your own sake - please never watch any movie of the Die Hard series. Regarding the scene with George letting go of Sandra: I think (working from memory and not 100% sure, but this is what I think is a probable answer) - they were both still moving slightly - the ropes were still budging, unwinding, elongating (even if not rubber) from the stress, something like that - as soon as the ropes were unwound from the station and had reached their maximum extension they would snap/pull back or - they were spinning on the end of the rope slowly but with a relatively large radius while the rope was winding/unwinding around/from the station and as Stone's foot was already slipping out of the sling, Kowalski feared the lines would not hold the mass of both of them and they would drift away from the station together, and let go to save her. -
Re-target my own vessel?
KerbMav replied to Hyomoto's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I have finally relocated a few keys: stage from space to insert abort from backspace to clear throttle from shift+ctrl to page up+down cut throttle to also end Takes a bit to retrain your brain and makes one handed flying while rotating and clicking mods with the other a bit more difficult, but saves you from one or two headaches a week. -
Further station keeping, slowly turning the whole thing into the sunlight and noticing that I will have to either turn again once a year or elongate my solar panel girders. Deorbited two differently bad designed orbital stages unfit for further use as construction use - pretty heat resistant though, only the ground could stop them. A very small tug that earlier functioned satisfactorily now starts to shake heavily when turning under SAS - resetting systems this evening, redesigning might be needed. Brought my first generation Mobile Kethane Miner alongside the docked interplanetary ship, as it was the only craft with a KAS winch - yet nothing available to plug the fuel hose into and no docking port on the miner ... first generation indeed. Will need to get my Kethane Tanker from the Munar Mining Base over, that should carry spare parts and docking nodes at least. Might need to spend much more time in the VAB than I expected.

Test of continuing KER developments [0.24.2]
KerbMav replied to Padishar's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Huh ... so strap a rocket onto a rover and drive down to the beach for further testing? -
You kerbishly kerbing Kerbal you! And already in the second reply even! :P That was my first thought to post after only just reading the thread title! :D For the younger players - as I already googled the original english quote before even opening this thread: "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women." Arnold "Conan" Schwarzenegger I think he even pronounces it in perfect Kerbalese ...

I am not sure I understand your problem correctly. You are approaching retrograde to Mun's orbit, not just retrograde to its rotation? The 800+ dV would be needed to establish an orbit around Mun? Although I think it is impossible to enter a stable orbit around a moon by a simple gravity assist A gravity assist at a moon can lead to/help attaining/changing an/the orbit around the planet though. This is what I think NASA wants to do, slingshot at Moon to fly further out and capture an asteroid, and then use Moon's gravity to slow down into a return trajectory to Earth.

Are your asteroid capture missions manned or unmanned?
KerbMav replied to katateochi's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Uncharacteristically for me I sent two manned missions into a standby orbit for two incoming asteroids. I, the player, might have been influenced by the multitude of videos these days that always put the the claw ontop of the three man pod - I, the KSC flight director, might think it to risky to not send a manned ship on such a vital mission like diverting an asteroid threatening to impact Kerbin. -
And what is "too much"?

Test of continuing KER developments [0.24.2]
KerbMav replied to Padishar's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
That would have no influence on the numbers shown while sitting on the launchpad. Apart from what 5thHorseman wrote, the atmosphere option of KER in VAB, do you use any mods that change the engine setting, KIDS Kerbal Isp Difficulty Scaler for example? -
[PLUGIN+PARTS][0.23] SCANsat terrain mapping
KerbMav replied to damny's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
For me it is working. And I never used the BTDT in all this time, ver surprised to see this little gimmick! http://imgur.com/a/TOs2S -
Trying to make a walkway for stations and bases, something to build in location, not really walkable but connecting the vessels for transfering fuel, crew, etc. I thought I would try fooling around with the pipe endpoints. I tried recoloring and rotating the texture for the pipe to look like an flexible foldable tube - didnt work out. Simply enlarging the pipe endpoint did not have a desired enlarging effect on the pipe. Main goal: Add KASModuleStrut to docking ports and make them also work as walkway endpoints. Something like this, but more a big hose:

Nuclear Pulse Propulsion: Absurd Unscientific Concept?
KerbMav replied to DJEN's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I rewatched Prometheus and this just reminded me of "weren't stupid enough to make this crap in their own backyards". The whole idea was most likely made up by a pacifist to engage the super-power-space-racers into depleting their arsenal in orbit. -
Train someone to work in space or to work a space ship? Astronaut is the same as (or even less than) a sailor, he will have basic knowledge, but not necessarily be able to navigate the ship. This is also theorized to be possible without using nukes: Mirrors bundling sun light and heating the surface of an asteroid - most likely more viable to use on comets though.

Recovering from a crash of yet another failed attempt to reach space horizontally (by space plane).
-
Marked four asteroids to plan missions for. First is a class D impactor that requiresmy immedeate attention (in my game E is dangerous, D problematic), entering Kerbin's SOI in about 45 days. Another one will pass Kerbin with a PE of 130km, entering SOI in about 48 days - perfect for capture I think. The other two are also impactors, one of them a class E, but it is still several months before they will enter our SOI. Launched two asteroid interceptors using newly developed engines. (Wow ... ! Got into orbit with the first stage.) Tried yet another space plane design - it can fly, but not above 12 km / 300 m/s without control issues. Landing zone was inadequate, lets leave it at that ... Launched and docked a fuel depot and conversion/orientation control/computer core/power storage (FDCOCCCPS) module to my space station. The orbital stage was meant to dock, empty excess fuel into the depot, pick up another orbital stage and deorbit - but lacked monopropellant ... so docking failed in the first attempt, but managed to decircularize the stations orbit - which will also have kerbed up the planned rendesvouz with a Kethane transport. So, a typical day at K.A.S.H. (Kerbal Administration for Space Hilarity)! Agenda: complete space station and get it operational design a new mobile Kethane miner (balanced, dockable and at least two-manned) retire the Duna Explorer (One) and design its successor divert Duna mapping satellite to Ike if possible return to Duna and visit Ike this time, too sent a new Eve probe without faulty parachutes (...) - plus a mapping satellite this time and: take the new engines and return to Mun! (mainly to relief the Munar mining operator from his solitary post and automate mining operations by upgrading the base with computer core)

Navball - which heading?
KerbMav replied to KerbMav's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I am yet travelling nowhere on that pic, as I am had not yet launched my rocket. Also I wanted to avoid an inclination change in orbit. Unbelievable as it might seem, I have in all these months I have been playing KSP (since shortly after the update to .20) launched a rocket to a specific inclination - I simply never had to (intercept an aseteroid) before. North was "down" on my navball, which got me all confused for some strange reason ... do not take antihistamines and do rocket science it seems.
