Cost of different fuels.
Superfluous J replied to Wjolcz's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
So you're better off buying fuel for $x/ton than you are bringing fuel to Kerbin for less than $x/ton total mission cost. Okay I concede. We live on different planets - - - Updated - - - Neither can I, especially in the new atmo. -
KSP 1.0 General Thread + All the new features

They said load times were better than 50% (ie, if it takes a minute now it should take less than 30 seconds in 1.0) and all known memory leaks are fixed. Also, there is a "this thread" search at the top of every page and it works pretty well. -

They'll realize that not having it is wrong, whereas veterans don't even notice it?

I've only seen 3 Youtube videos. Is there another? I've seen EnterElysium, Scott Manley, and TheWinterOwl.

Cost of different fuels.
Superfluous J replied to Wjolcz's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
But why buy fuel from Kerbin when you can use free fuel you brought back to KSC? If you earn back what you sold it for, it's exactly the same as using it yourself. Also, why convert it to LFO? Convert it to Xenon. That's where the real money is. I like the idea of the asteroid best. If you could land it, you could drill it and process it on the ground. Spawn a fuel truck with empty tanks, drive it to the asteroid, fill it up, and recover. -
How Close are YOU to Your Next Reputation Rank?

I have the same number of bars as Squad, Jeb, Valentina, et al so I am guessing I need infinite more rep to get to my next bar. -
Cost of different fuels.

You're making it more complicated than it is. A trip to Minmus and back to collect fuel costs X to launch (minus any savings for recovering stages). The money you make from recovering the ship full of fuel nets you Y. If Y is a lot larger than X, it's worth it. If Y is a little larger than X, it's probably better to spend that time doing contracts. If Y is less than X, then it's not worth it ever. -
Not much to go on there, but TheWinterOwl had a 1 hour video that I thought was okay. Better than the streams, at least.

KSP 1.0 General Thread + All the new features

Possibly. Maybe someone will show it some time in the next 2 days. Or we'll know for sure on Monday. Who knows maybe there's a "clamshell fairing" option in the debug menu too -

Was that in the stream? Of course it was during the 3 minutes that the stream timed out so I figured I'd make some tea. Being in the debug menu implies it's not complete. So long as it exists I'll be happy. -
Cost of different fuels.

That's why I set up conversions for LF, O, and Monoprop and fill all the tanks on my ground station. Then I have a shuttle that can fill up all 3 and lift it into orbit to a station that can hold lots of all 3 as well. Then any ship that comes by and wants any type of fuel can just dock to the station and take what they need. Including - if I wanted to - an SSTO that comes up, fills up, and goes home to sell the fuel. -

Hah I saw you ask that, but didn't see the answer. I also asked on the same stream a few minutes earlier and didn't see an answer to mine either. First dV readouts, then this. Yay, more critical information dropped :/ -
It's not "unsolvable" but the divergence between theory and reality is pretty huge. There are a ton of things that can be different from launch to launch, aerodynamics can give you lift but also drag, and dropping stages and changing throttles manually can make differences too. Personally, I just do a launch or two (or 85) and see how much dV I have at the start and once I'm in orbit. Then I tweak so my launcher has a little bit less than that amount (so it falls back into the atmosphere). Then I do a launch or two (or 85) to make sure the changes I made didn't affect the dV to orbit very much.

That right there? That's a reason to be hyped.

"*New SPH/VAB GUI to help with the aerodynamic stability of the craft (a simplified version of the graphics in FAR)" I am seeing zero indication of this in the streams. -
It'll go well with hearing explosions from your debris on Mun.

I pretty much agree, though EnterElysium is acutally doing things. He's not on ksptv, just http://twitch.tv/enterelysium It took him a surprising amount of time to realize why darts have the flights in the back and not the front, but now he's almost to Minmus. I got far more out of the two decent videos that went up to YouTube today.

Those words were not used, no. But I was watching very closely and saw every option tried. All you can do is draw them. There's even an "edit fairing" button, and all it does is allow you to redraw them. I suppose you can hold onto the shred of hope that there's an undocumented option to hit ctrl-alt-leftshift-c or something to enable "clamshell mode" but I'm pushing my chips into "not gonna happen."

Proper Fairings ASAP

I'll happily 'aye' both of those things. I just hope the first patch also has dV readouts. -

Superfluous J replied to Daze's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You may have your reason. They looked extremely effective the one time I saw them used. They weren't strictly necessary there but I could see a situation (ie, more than just the mk1 command pod coming down) where they could be quite useful. -
KSP 1.0 General Thread + All the new features
Superfluous J replied to Daze's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Here's hoping. KSP was way too easy for me before. The only challenge was that I pushed the margins paper-thin and then frequently forgot at all the limitations I'd put on myself to get those margins so thin. -
Proper Fairings ASAP
Superfluous J replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yes, I'm being serious. Nobody's shown how the fairings work interstage (because they're too busy being "funny" and making sure Val is in every command pod) but if you can keep the vomit down during fairing separation I think it'll work perfectly for a Saturn V replica. And "better" is subjective. You think it's horrifically worse. I think it's different and would prefer clamshells, but will happily use the stock fairings and be happy to check yet another must-install mod off the list. -
No, they don't. I have in hundreds (if not thousands) of launches both performed myself and seen in others' videos had engines explode and parts of the ship come apart due solely to decoupling and igniting in the same stage. Then I saw 2 in a row, today, in the 1.0 streams. I have seen otherwise, in multiple videos. You simply do NOT have the option to make them into clamshells.
