  1. And another two advices: do not place RCS on lander, you can easily place it on transfer stage and use this rocket for docking (you need also install probe, of course). RCS on lander almost all time is dead weight. Also for Dune for lander as yours is enough one small chute on the top of cabin, open it as high as possibly and use engines for final landing (right click on chute and set maximum height and minimal pressure for opening). Dune has very high mountains, >5 km, on this altitude Dune's atmosphere has very low density and chutes does not work well and you should use engines for landing in any case. For showed lander you can cut in this manner almost of half payload weight, less lender payload -> less lander weight -> less transfer stage -> less rocket at all.
  2. Here is my entry - 493 964. Start gravity turn at 5 km (set pith to 80), then every 5 km reduce pith by 10 degrees (at 30 km - pith 30 and at 45 km pith 0). Craft file
  3. Yes, it is possibly, I say more, this craft (redesigned from Moho round-trip craft for version 0.25) theoretically can make round-trip to Laythe twice (one trip will take 3700-4000 m/s of dV) without refueling. I made on predecessor double trip Kerbin-Mun-Minmus-Kerbin without refueling.
  4. You can easily delete one pair of big solar panels. One big solar is enough for feed 2 ion engines on Kerbin orbit. Add I recommend to add some batteries for prevent electrical shortageSee my "Mun Flea" - small Mun capable SSTO
  5. Here is my entry: "Eagle" craft Mass on the runway: 3.743t One turbojet + one ion engine Parts: 120 No parachutes at all Scores: Mass points: 374 points Stock only parts: -150 points No autopilot: -100 points. Land in range of 1km to the easter egg on Mün: -50 points (direct landing on Mun arch) Return back to launch ramp: -60 points RCS used for docking: -40 points And, without points for rocket design 374 - 150 - 100 - 50 - 60 - 40 = -26 total mission points
  6. Let me introduce you new generation of compact rovers for SSTOs, previous my design (only for inner use ) was slow, fragile and very boring. But this piece engineering art - Jupiter-22 do not have any of this problem. It is light (only 0.62t), agile, fast (cruise speed ~20 m/s, maximum theoretical speed ~60 m/s) and compact (only 3/4 space in long mk2 cargo bay), can drive in completely dark environment (2 RTG on board). Driving on Mun, Dres and Dune On the top of Mun arch Craft file + 2 sub-assemblies (one is rover with connection point and second is already packed rover in the cargo bay): http://www./download/2x42zewcr4p1ecr/Rover+Jupiter+22.zip 1. Always use SAS in time of driving 2. I recommend to assign separate keys for rover controls and use on light bodies only SAS rotation controls
  7. Minmal theoretical dV for Tylo landing/ascend from 30 km round orbit is 2221 m/s and with good TWR (>2 on start) and very good piloting skills you can spend only 2300-2400 m/s for landing and 2300 for ascent. But it should be realy good piloting skills. For more safe landing and with margin for precision landing you should make 3000-3500 m/s dV with start TWR as minimum 1.5 (2 will be better). Best landing sequence is make orbit with periapsis 7-8 km and start deorbit burn near periapsis, you should kill horizontal speed as close as possibly to surface (ideally - 100-200 m from surface) .
  8. Business jet to the Mun and back in one day, fast and comfortable travel, 4 seats.
  9. SSTO "Sand-martin": low orbit cargo plane, 2 pilots + additional cabin for 2 cargo specialists.
  10. Middle range SSTO "Delta 2R" (3700 m/s of dV on LKO), can make unpowered landing on Dune. Also it has rover for 2 kerbals in small cargo bay.
  11. SSTO Flamingo (imgur link) 2 crew members 2 turbojets (4 intakes per jet) + 1 LV-N engine (main space engine) + 5 Rockomax 48-7S engines (landing/takeoff engines) dV - 3700...4400 m/s (depend on loading) - Dune and Laythe round-trip Small inner cargo bay with shielding Cargo bay closed and shieldings are on for intakes Cargo bay with rover inside opened
  12. There is my entry, to Dune and back: Turbojet + ion drive, no parachutes, wings used. Cost is 20380.4 and score, as I understood, 20380/4 - 10000 (no solid fuel) - 10000 (establish orbit around Dune) - 7500 (no parachutes) = -22405
  13. Classical cruise liner "Valkyria mk2", 12 passengers + 2 crew members. Express flight Kerbin-Laythe and back, no stops on space stations for refueling Living in comfortable cabin for all trip, no additional unpack/pack actions. Steward service all flight. And ticket price is only 245 funds. Ticket price calculation: I spent only fuel: Monopropellant - 80x1.2 = 96 funds Fuel - 3050x0.8 = 2440 funds Oxidizer - 2205x0.18 = 396.9 funds TOTAL: 2932.9 Ticket cost: 2932.9/12 = 244.4
  14. I am working about classical SSTO "Valkyrie" for this challenge: 12 passengers + 2 crew members, ticket cost should be close to Kasuha entry. Last checks and tests in progress
  15. Low tech SSTO for rescue kerbals from orbit: 1 basic jet + four 47-8S, on orbit has ~500 m/s of dV. Fuel cost only 523 and craft cost is 18543
  16. It is only start. Next will be moar monstrous crafts
  17. You can use my craft - 8 passengers + pilot, 2200 m/s of dV on orbit (enough for Minmus round-trip) Download link: http://www./download/a578fivu58g27l8/Griffin+8.craft
  18. Too many wishes , especially last one - Kerbin TWR > 1.5, for what are you need so big TWR, for Tylo you should make special design, for Eve also, but for another bodies TWR 0.5 - 0.7 is more then enough. Simple design rules: 1. Do not use RCS on landers, keep it on main ship or make small RCS tug for docking operations 2. Place fuel tanks with legs and bottom engines around cabin - it is producing very wide and stable craft and it has a good space for additions and tunings But, if you wish, here is completely universal lander with rover for all bodies (except Eve and Jool ) - "Tripod" lander, very stable, with adjustable TWR (on/off groups of engines), but big and very inefficient. 19. About navball, I am using mod from this thread And about my entry, I will be busy till next Thursday, and all modification for my entry will be after this date
  20. Here is two my entries with stock only, no FAR: 1. Minimal SSTO with name "Neutrino light" orbit reach only and some fuel for return, only ion power, 0.580 t on runway 2. Similar design "Neutrino", more heavy - 0.740 t on runway, but made Mun+Minmus round-trip (4100...4400 m/s dV on LKO)
  21. To Moho and back with landing on SSTO I made it , after several unlucky tries, Jeb made round-trip to Moho on space plane "Arctic tern" Brief stats: Start mass/dry mass - 31.22 t / 9.36 t Details - 107 Crew - 1 brave kerbonaut Engines: 2 turbojets (4 intakes per engine) + 1 atomic engine dV on LKO - 8700+ m/s (for details, click on picture)
