Do you feel cheaty using reaction wheels?
TimePeriod replied to BlueCanary's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Ehm no. If you find yourself in a competitive multiplayer game, you will also find yourself in a set of rules which you adhere to follow by playing the game. If you decide to cheat by not following the rules, you are a cheater. Meta-gaming and cheating is two different concepts. -
Give me your mod please or face the consequences. I must have such epic screenshots.

Because seriously, you can't cheat in a single player game. (Please ensure that your tin foil hat is secured in place, that your seat-belt is locked in a forward position and that your lunatic-meter is below 'Whackjob'-levels. Have a pleasant flight. You: But TimePeriod, what you are saying is heresy! Sure you can cheat! Me: Yes, you are indeed correct! You can cheat but who are you cheating? You: I am cheating the game of course! I am playing the game in a different way compared to everybody el...Ohh Me: *Ding Ding* We have a winner! You are correct again! You are only cheating yourself! Me: For all its worth, there is no definitive way of saying that you are cheating in a video-game about little green men, in 1:10th scale of our own universe. You: But TP! It is still cheating! Me: No it is not. You are in no way that you are breaking any pre-defined rules found on any list SQUAD has ever announced, there is no "de-facto" way of playing a singleplayer game. Me: It is all a matter of perspective. You are making a concious choice of playing this game in a different way, compared to everybody else but since nobody else is playing against you, how can it be cheating? You: That...That makes no sense! Your reason and sentence's are flawed! Me: (Short pause) Me: If I choose to play chess with myself, only to narrowly beat myself using a last ditch effort by my Queen, how much of a victory do I gain? None, there's no victory to be had. There is no competition, there is no unfair advantage, there is no right nor wrong. Me: The same core principle is applied to this video-game! Unless a predefined set of rules has been applied, which you have agreed to adhere to, there is no way of telling if its cheating or modding. You: That makes some sense but what do I do then, when I think something is cheating? Me: You abolish your entire concept of cheating and replace it with modding or experimenting. I'm TimePeriod and I was your pilot today on the crazytrain. Have a nice day.

Do you feel cheaty using reaction wheels?
TimePeriod replied to BlueCanary's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The problem with that line of thought is, its a grey area. (50 shades). There's multiple choices here really, because: Cheating could be an introduction to modding, messing around with the part values is considered cheating but on the other hand, its also modding. Where do you draw the line on what is either? ^Must it be a concious choice, an act of randomness, a specific line of design or act of god? It could be a clear concious choice you personally make, not playing the game like everyone dictates you should. In the end, when you shove the thought-concept of 'cheating' back and forward, it comes down to you personally decide what cheating really is. There is no definitive answer, as what everybody else is trying to force down your throat is just their own personal opinion and not a definitive answer (This is a definitive answer: 1x2=2 / 2x1=2 / 1+1=2 / 4:2=2) (Think of it as a matter of self-discipline rather then exterior-force discipline) Air-hogging could be considered cheating but on the other hand, utilizing it in experimentation of SSTO's is not cheating as you are experimenting. Excessive strutting could also be considered cheating but on the other hand, ask Whackjob. Its all a matter of perspective, which means unless multiple people are involved in the same game you are currently playing, there will never be an answer. The question of 'cheating' is philosophical, which has been placed in game of science, with little green men. Occam's Razor anyone? (Maybe even Newtons Flaming Laser Sword) -

Its only cheating if you have someone to cheat against. Cheating against yourself in hopes of getting a competitive advantage over yourself, is just being an idiot. -

Two words: Single - Player. Nuff said. -
Well, to cheat, you would have a set of rules imposed onto you and enforced by a superior power. Since SQUAD has yet to declare any official rules, there is no cheats to speak off.

Nothing to get uppty about, its just a little rocket I made during some free time I had. 2 tons to LKO / 24 tons at LaunchPad / 23 parts / Sub 10k $. Its part of a new series I am working on called "BudgetLifters". Cheers.

Laythe, as in lathe. With a Y.

This is not an attack... Its an invasion..

What is your favorite "I did it!" Moment?
TimePeriod replied to Sgt.Shutesie's topic in KSP1 Discussion
125 tons goes into the air, with only 5 basic jet engines and a lot of wings. Don't ask me why, I just wanted a long duration flyer. (40m/s is minimum speed, else it stalls right out of the sky) The thing is, I didn't plan this aircraft. I just kinda built it from scratch and the CoM/CoL lined up pretty well, didn't even need to adjust the wings. -
I don't use quicksave/load. I've sent a lot of folded flags in my days.
-
The thing is, regardless how much automation you put into an aircraft/rocket/spaceplane you will still need a pilot to tell the aircraft where to go. Thus, you can never eliminate the piloting aspect of a given air/spacecraft. Example A) You want Mechjeb to get into orbit. Thus you have to tell MechJeb to get into orbit. You are now the pilot. Example You want MechJeb to do an interplanetary transfer, you will have to tell MechJeb do it. Example C) You want MechJeb to do a powered landing on Eve, you MUST tell MechJeb to do this. As soon as you are taking an active participation in the controlling(directly or indirectly) of the aircraft, YOU become the pilot. And by pilot, I am referring to ANYONE who is in direct control, indirect control, in the present-time, in the past-time or in the future-time. That can be a service-technician doing some adjustments to the flight path on a automated drone 2500km away. It can be an active pilot flying the aircraft while it is in the air, it can be 50 people on the ground in a giant room. Someone, somewhere will have to take an active action in order for the air/spacecraft to do something. Thus we have our pilot(s). You WILL have a pilot for an aircraft, if you like it or not. End of friggen story.

Made a pretty snazzy looking SSTO(testing). Noticeable features: - Forward cargo compartment. - 110m/s liftoff speed. - Can't fly backwards. (snaps in two before it happens) Incredible Discovery: Able to bleed off 4-500 m/s without snapping in two. No airbrakes needed. (direct pull upwards, flare)

I believe that without a proper in-depth understanding of the game mechanics, both of theoretical and practical in nature can one learn to fully enjoy this video game. That is what I meant by "licensed drivers". (What you choose to do after this, is entirely up to you.) Its like buying an expensive icecream, only to spit out all the expensive chocolate covering the top, because you dislike hard chocolate and prefer soft chocolate. But that's fine by me, spit out 20$ icecream all you want.
-
My answer still stands as well: Nobody should be allowed to drive a car without a license. I guess that's a difference of opinion. No hard feelings.
-
So explosions are not fun? Because explosions only occur when A) Things are on the launchpad or 'The player' mucks up. Plus, I get a huge sense of accomplishment when I do something manually, which I know for a fact (in real life) is a lot more rewarding.
-
If you choose to play without it, its fine. If you choose to play with it, its fine too. Under one condition You have to learn how to play without it first. Why? Because NOBODY should be allowed to drive a car without a license.
-
Hey, if we could get the thing into orbit in less then 2 minutes, we wouldn't have to worry about the tanks exploding
-
As far as I know, no amount of space-tape will prevent an oxygen-tank overpressure.
-
Its pretty old news, thou it is also pretty rare. Kudo's.

Most messed up working space/air craft
TimePeriod replied to MokieMan's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Yes, that is a box. Yes, it is a VTOL. Yes, it can be steered. Yes, it can land. And no, you can't have the craft file. Its MINE. -
I don't get the hate. I use the new fairings a lot and find them pretty useful. Most of the problems people seem to have can be migrated with a little bit of clever rocket design, intuition and the most important thing - stubbornness to learn something new.
-
The fairing is not the problem. Its you.
