  1. Well I don’t know about you, but after so many years, I am certainly hyped for the long awaited 1.0 release of Kerbal Space Program. However, I realized something the other day while discussing the finer points of Kerbal Lawn Darts with a buddy*. One of the big features coming with 1.0 is the aerodynamics overhaul. We calculated that the current compliment of Hype Trains are not designed for this new pancake-punishing feature, and will not be able to maintain the proper Hype velocity with their blunt profiles. I have tackled this problem (with some help*), and after much time and more program crashes than I can count, I think the solution is satisfactory. *Otterer is also a member of the forums, but is more of a lurker. He gave me advice, helped put the video together, did most of the editing, and did the music. He even used (part of) one of his own songs: White Waters! And so, without further ado, I unveil to you, the NEW, the 100% STOCK, the AERODYNAMICALLY streamlined for MAXIMUM HYPE, the one, the only, the Hype Train Express 1.0! (Video, download link and rest of Album at bottom). Handcrafted using the latest and greatest 1940’s fluid dynamics engineering, the Hype Train Express 1.0 is a much needed relief for some of our older Hype Trains. As you can see, no detail has been left out for the Hype Train Express 1.0. From a detailed cabin interior; To realistic handling and performance capabilities of a steam locomotive; And of course it just wouldn’t be Kerbal if it didn’t explode at the slightest provocation. And boasting over 600 parts for the Locomotive and Tender, you can be sure they are top quality explosions. Furthermore, as a special offer, the Hype Train Express 1.0 now comes with a complete starter set of Passenger Cars! You can now kill carry HUNDREDS of Kerbals with you as we travel along. Hype Train Express 1.0 Passenger Car Starter Set Includes: Coach Car, Bilevel Car, Dining car, & Observation Car. (Water tower not included!) What’s that? Not enough? Well now introducing the Hype Train Express 1.0 passenger car expansion set! You can now k carry over 900.0 kerbals! Guaranteed to satisfy all your hype train needs, or we will give you a second Hype Train Express 1.0 free of charge! *Hype Train Express 1.0 passenger car expansion set Includes: Lounge Car, Sleeping Car, Dome Car, Hospital Car, Combine Car, (*not yet available for commercial use.) But wait! There is more! Download now, and we will throw in a free Hoopla Puff Jr. (Complete with detailed interior.) Now available in kerbalpamorphic form! (It scares me too) It turns out Hype is very Flammable.. Here is the video: . . . And the rest of the photo album: (Imbedding the album isn't working for some reason, but the link is still good.) http://imgur.com/a/Bhr1X Download Links: http://kerbalx.com/Ival70/Hype-Train-Express-10 http://kerbalx.com/Ival70/Hoopla-Puff-Jr So get Hyped for 1.0 today! (Because this is the last day to get hyped,1.0 comes out today.)
  2. I could probably do it, I'd need more details on what exactly you need though.
  3. The design is really nice, similar to how I thought it would look. Anyone have a clue what they will give her for stats? Let's make bets. I say, 75% courage, 33% stupidity.
  4. This is such a good idea, I want it added to stock. I'm going to test it with .90, don't see why it wouldn't still work.
  5. 8/10 Seen you post every once in awhile
  6. I'm fairly certain I know who it really is.. Don't really want to spoil the fun though. First of all, consider that the Green Iron Crown is an artificial creation. Second, consider who has the ability to do such a thing. In a conversation regarding negative rep "In any case, Kaspy's disabled the feature entirely for the present so it can't cause any more trouble." Quoted from this thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/106795-Negative-rep-!/page3 Third, consider the implications of this thread, specifically the odds of this encounter occurring, as well as the close timings. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/36348-Guess-Who-Will-Reply-Next?p=1667731#post1667731
  7. I'm assuming you've already lowered every setting as much as possible. I suppose you could try editing the .craft files...
  8. That's great that you enjoy those contracts, I think most people just decline them due to the low reward. I've never really needed to use equations for them before. I usually just eyeball them (it's the kerbal way), or use space-planes, but that can take awhile to get a feel for. But now that you bring it up, I'd like to know as well. I think the problem is that the KSP aerodynamics model is unique, and I don't think equations for other models are going provide the level of precision your looking for (could definitely be wrong here). A quick search surprisingly didn't bring up anything, which I suppose explains why you made this thread. Hopefully someone reading this knows the equations offhand. As for tips, well, one thing to keep in mind is to ensure that as your ship uses up all of it's fuel, the center of mass stays in front of the center of lift/drag, otherwise it will constantly want to flip around. Another way to combat this is to use an excessive amount of RCS or SAS torque. In the meantime, if you are not opposed to mods, I know there are several that give you this information. Off the top of my head, these come to mind: Mechjeb; one of it's many functions displays a marker designating where you will land, taking into account the rotation of the planet as well as the atmosphere. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/12384-PART-0-90-Anatid-Robotics-MuMech-MechJeb-Autopilot-v2-4-2 Atmospheric Trajectories; also provides a landing marker accounting for planet rotation and atmosphere, and it additionally provides a trajectory line in map view. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/104694
  9. UpsilonAerospace, since this is kind of your thing, I think you need to make another thread.. or maybe another section to this one. "Say Hello to the Dark Red Group" There are currently 1+ people on the forum who have more/less? than 500 points of -Rep. This gives them one or more dark-red bars on their Reputation counter, meaning that they are... the INfamous Dark-Red Group! (Search for the Green Iron Crown) http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/members/138610-Green-Iron-Crown
  10. A lot of ships I build gather dust half finished in the VAB, and instead of finishing them, I use a bunch of crafts from as old as .18 (I still have a hard time believing that update was 2 years ago). I can't tell if it's a testament to a high quality of craft production, ..or extreme laziness (knowing myself, I'd have to go with the latter ). Also I haven't been finishing any missions in my saves once the next update comes out, got half a dozen Jeb's in parallel universes all stuck waiting for mission control to tell them to head home. Lastly, yesterday, I forgot solar panels AND parachutes.
  11. Afraid not. Copenhagen_Suborbitals?
  12. Neat! When you throttle it up and down, it reminds me of a TIE fighter.
  13. I agree, bar those about zombies, funeral jokes, and the Darwin Awards. Fun Fact: We are supposed to provide reactions to the fact above before posting our fact.
  14. Maybe an event could be hosted on it to fix that problem?
  15. Well, I hope you managed to figure out what you needed to do.
  16. Zekes, if you want to do that, I could "hold on" to your green bars for you while you try it. One question though, theoretically is it possible to have so much negative rep, that the rep you give other people is negative as well?
  17. Well, I just clicked on the wrong thing.. I wish there was a vote confirmation, or the ability to change your vote. So my real vote is for aerodynamics, with life support coming in at a close second.
  18. Glad that the clouds are working, that means that you can probably get the atmosphere to work. Hm, what are all of the other values set to? if they are blank you could probably copy them from the cloud layer and go from there. A few things I can think to check off the top of my head is to make sure height value is pretty high, on Kerbin I usually will set it to roughly 30,000m. Also check that the transparency is above 0 (For a single layer, I find that 0.1 to 0.2 works pretty well, 1.0 is solid). The transparency value I believe is called "A", and is below the RGB color values. If you post what all the values are set too I can see if anything is out of whack. Or a screenshot could probably work too, plus I'd like to see your planet. =) While not necessarily as good as the coding solution, the E.V.E. mod can be used to make atmospheres visible. It doesn't actually add the atmosphere, just the appearance of one, but the OP said he only needed to make his atmosphere visible, so I think it would be a viable option in this case, especially if an avoidance of coding is desired.
  19. Wow! I have been trying to make something like this for awhile (even had nearly the same name), didn't get very far though, glad to see someone else do this. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/98612-So-that-s-what-they-call-it On that note, the other day, I had a bug which made these fireball trails http://imgur.com/a/4eST5#0 I've been trying to replicate the bug (no luck), and furthermore figure out a way to create something similar with a mod. Could be something worth looking into..
  20. Well, looks like someone beat me too it then. Oh well, I don't mind, since I don't think I could do any better (saved me the work). Looks like they made the thread a few days ago though, I wonder if they saw this thread for the idea. =) In the meantime, I'm going to look into those fireball trails, they'd be great to put in a mod, or at least track the bug down so squad can fix it.
  21. I can't believe I just found out about this now (from a youtube comment no less). What is the GIF from?
