Any else tried to build something really long on the Mun?
FITorion posted a topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think I found a Bug. My long power cable. And here is what happens when I load in from the tracking station. It falls back to the ground but... I worry what's going to happen when I attach big heavy fragile things to this end... Do you all think I should post this in the Bug forum? does it rise to that level? Is it known already? -
Getting back from Duna is like going to Eve from Kerbin. Getting back from Eve is like going to Duna from Kerbin. Have those 2 sets of instructions covers all scenarios.

Did anyone know about this feature?
FITorion replied to TheCanadianVendingMachine's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Supposedly you can get your apo and per to stay displayed without having to constantly mouse over them but I haven't figured out how to do it... as left or right clicking on them either does nothing or a maneuver node gets placed. double clicking doesn't work as with the first click the add node dialog box comes up. -
Hmm... Well there are the things I spend a lot of time on... Like just the other day... Trying to get a big awkward thing into orbit with enough fuel left to get it to the Mun... I failed... but I think my last design will do it... I just haven't gone back and tried it yet. Then there is the thing I tried for a week to do and haven't come back to try again for 2 game updates... .19 - well I haven't tried again yet... Getting a full orange tank up and docked to my space station. So that's probably my hardest thing. There are things that are hard... landing... docking... aerobraking which I'm not brave enough to attempt... landing with precision on a body with an atmosphere. But I enjoy the challenge of all these things... well maybe not the awkward thing to orbit... that's a little frustrating but still I'm going to feel good when I get it. I don't use mechjeb for 2 primary reasons. 1. it would remove everything I consider fun about the game. 2. it's a Mod and mods break with nearly every update or break the game and I just can't be bothered to deal with them yet. sub reason... I tried it once and it blew up all my rockets... rockets I could pilot myself to orbit just fine... supposedly they've fixed that with recent versions so this reason is no longer valid.

SO umm did anyone see it? did it happen? the only video saved on the stream for about the right time is "Yargnit Launching project Kratos" which I don't think is the dev stream... Edit: Ah thanks lincourtl Didn't see your post.

They have a feature list where by when they get everything on that list into the game then that would be ver 1.0 They have been having a problem with "feature creep" meaning they had been an ever expanding list of features... Finally they decided to draw the line somewhere. This list is not public and how long it will take to finish it is unknown to them as well as us. And of course everything is subject to change as life is unpredictable.

Because I play all stock ... I don't. The engineer mod is something I can see getting built into the game eventually. Once the new space port gets up and running and it's easier to put mods in and take mods out of the game I will probably change my all stock ways and get mods that provide useful info like that. Only reason I don't do it now is that mods seem to break or break the game with every update and the updates happen way faster than I'm willing spend time futzing with mods for.

Whats the deal with mainsails and jumbo tanks overheating?
FITorion replied to LostElement's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I usually set my thrust at 2/3 and that avoids the overheat entirely. I don't add the little tank. I no longer overly strut things. I can not use Mechjeb even if I wanted to ... which I don't ... to launch things because it will put the thrust to 100% and blow up my rocket. Also it's more efficient to have lower thrust % while in the lower atmosphere. You don't want to waste fuel by trying to go faster than terminal velocity for the altitude you're at. -
just added the Joystiq article to the OP. I'm still trolling the youtubes looking for anyone posting up their videos of KSP stuff at pax. If anyone finds a video of the panel they did with the Day Z guys please post it. Also apparently the talk Felipe gave at the Unity event was recorded but the video for that is no where to be found yet. Keep your eye out for that... I know I am.

Yes Squad is based out of Mexico City.
-
they haven't announced anything saying as such. They only told us they were going to PAX Prime about a week before the event.
-
seriously... we have a thread for this... http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/48252-Squad-Is-at-Cons-this-weekend Even have a youtube link directly to the relevant portion of their live stream.

You could always check the thread for Convention coverage... http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/48252-Squad-Is-at-Cons-this-weekend

Weird thing that makes KSP temporarily use *vastly* less RAM
FITorion replied to Tiron's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've heard that KSP loads the textures for each part into memory even if those textures are already loaded from another part using the same textures. So with lots of parts you end up with copies of the same texture loaded in RAM. KSP hasn't really gone through an optimization phase. They're still adding core features. We are however seeing stand in things being replaced by optimized final versions... the New space center is an example. But really what's needed is an optimization pass... where they would for one... make the textures load only as needed and keep only one copy of the texture in RAM and have all parts that use it just reference it. -

So... anyone who was at the 11am panel... what happened?
-
I pulled some images from the video. Gah!... here a link while I try to get this to work. http://imgur.com/a/VZGXn#0 Huzzah!. That was painful as my first time linking an imgur album.

I'm looking around but I'm not finding very many videos being posted from PAX. and the twitch stream doesn't look like it saved an archive of itself... maybe there will be something a few days after... I don't know. Squad has a panel tomorrow at 11AM PST 2pm EST so maybe we'll get more from that. Apparently I was wrong: http://www.twitch.tv/twitch/b/454897273 relevant section starts at 5:21

Yeah. I noticed a "sub-assembly drop zone" on the UI bellow the parts on the left. I guess you can drag your section you wish to save as a sub-assembly into that area to save it for future use.

They just finished their twitch interview. Showed a basic launch to orbit and recovery... they forgot to turn off physics warp before the chute fully opens... Then they showed video of 2 new research parts. One is an in line with the rocket part that has slats that open up. Another looks like one of the new large radial RCS tanks but the center section opens to reveal some sort of science instrument. Then there was a quick skim over the tech tree showing it revealing new branches of tech research as things are discovered. It looks like the tech tree won't already be visible but your research will reveal only you next options and not things further down the line of research.

Can someone tell me why I am wrong? (single threaded physx?)
FITorion replied to Cannibal's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I don't have a dedicated card... I do have an i7 and 32 GB RAM and a nvidia 680... at around 900-1000 parts it starts to get laggy. I have not yet found the limit where the lag makes it unplayable. I play all stock. I think mods taking up RAM reduces part count as well. -
Hot off the twitter. They are apparently talking about .22 in this pic. Fricken teases.
