Ah good I see at least one of your suggestions is what I was coming here to post. I just tried a Apollo style Mun mission. IE Command pod in Mun Orbit. Lander goes down to get samples. Lander comes back up... (Here's where things break from reality) Lander should be able to transfer stored experiments ... reports... surface samples... to the other pod while docked. Lander gets ditched on a sub orbital trajectory to be destroyed while the command pod heads back to Kerbin to be recovered. Since stored things can't be transferred... my 2 150 point surface samples are lost... One other thing I would like... A list of stored data with the option to transmit only one thing at a time... or highlight multiple things to transmit. The current review stored data UI is a little clunky. And telling the antenna to transmit will transmit everything... it should ask what you want to transmit...

Diminishing returns. It may have been your first time in that spot but I'll wager that it was not your first time in that Biome type. Each time you recover data from a biome... be it from transmitting or recovering the craft... the amount the data from the next time is worth is reduced. You have to keep going new places to get more science.

.22 playtesting being waylaid by mods?
FITorion replied to jpkerman's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I play without mods. I will continue playing without mods very likely up until release of version 1.0. I might do some mods before that though... They talked a while back about Updating the space port and linking it into the game itself so while playing you could browse and download and install mods without needing to close down KSP or figure out where to copy what file... Mods are a part of KSP and when they add features specifically geared toward mod integration then I'll play with those features... until then I go modless. -
.22 SAS is now all WIbbely Wobbly (but not timey wimey)
FITorion replied to JebidiahsBigSister's topic in KSP1 Discussion
meh. It wasn't bad in .20. It wasn't bad during .21. It isn't bad now. It is getting better with each but really it was perfectly workable in all those instances. Have you perchance not realized you can tap F to momentarily disable and re-enable SAS to lock into the heading? -
3 science questions
FITorion replied to Galileo Kerbonaut's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
kinda... you get way better results for returning than transmitting. If you transmit a lot you can destroy any potential science from a return mission to the same spot. I now only transmit crew reports because those are at 100%. Everything else you get losses and diminishing returns effect any future return mission. -
3 science questions

3. Is the "store data" button not working for you? You should have 3 options... discard, store, transmit. You can only store one thing of the same type at a time. You can't collect more until you've sent your transmission or discarded your stored data. If you want to collect multiple sets of data without transmitting then you need to carry with you the part you need for each one. Want to take 4 goo observations? then you need 4 goo experiments. -
what speed is safe for the tansmitter?
FITorion replied to FITorion's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
funny you should mention that... I did a ballistic flight to do my reentry test. Straight up to past Minmus orbit... almost Kerbin escape. Then back down again. No orbit. Just a straight fall back to Kerbin. I had full time warp on expecting it to kick me back to 1x once I got to 70Km... Nope. I went into Kerbin and back out of Kerbin with no collision and no time warp drop. I had to do the test over because the second hop encountered the Mun on the way back down... -
What do the antennae values mean?
FITorion replied to spikeyhat09's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
yeah... could be that... But I too haven't noticed a difference in percent data loss between the two. -
What do the antennae values mean?

These are just my assumptions... so... packet size ... amount of data it can send in each transmission interval. Higher is better. transmission interval ... Some time value... could be time between sendings... length of time to send a packet... I don't know... I think less is better. total throughput ... Normally I'd think total throughput would be some maximum amount of data it could send... but I'd hate for there to be a limit like that... and I haven't encountered such a limit... so I don't know what this does. -

There's beaches and tundra to add to the list for Kerbin... Just did a flight to the north pole doing crew reports the whole way to catch as many biomes as possible. Goo doesn't seem to react to biomes really... unless maybe if you're on the ground. I had 4 goos with me but... forgot to expose them once I'd landed. Haven't done much Mun biome exploration yet.

The mat bay and the goo get used and can't be used again if you intend on returning them. You would need to take with you a seperate unit for each place you wanted to sample and return data from.

I discovered it on Minmus... which has no biomes yet. I just tested it on the launch pad on the off chance different biomes mattered. They do. I took a sample from the pad and stored it. I then walked off the pad and got another. They are different biomes and the pod was able to store both just fine.

what speed is safe for the tansmitter?
FITorion replied to FITorion's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Did a re-entry to Kerbin with the transmitter out at about 3500 m/s. No damage to the transmitter. -
what speed is safe for the tansmitter?
FITorion replied to FITorion's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I've gotten a test flight in lower Kerbin atmosphere up to 350m/s with no breakage of the Comms DTS-M1. -

well... I just waited for my chute to fully open... 1.7m/s is safe. Then my chute came off and I explodes 250m below Jool. -
Command pods in Staging?
FITorion replied to mellojoe's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I heard during one of the live streams that it activates the science. ... I don't know exactly what that means and have not tested it out. I put them at the top... above the chutes... so they never actually get staged... -
I discovered that you can't store one surface sample and then go and get another. When you try to get back in with the second sample it will force a discard... this is with the mark 1 capsule. I haven't tried with the 3 kerbal capsule yet. I've gotten into the habit of upon landing back at kerbin... having my kerbal get out and take an eva report and get a sample. Then I recover him and the craft separately.

It's a tutorial for new players. Science anywhere but Kerbin and the Mun is very generic as only those two places currently have biome maps.

Too easy to get science
FITorion replied to bigpapabearxx's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The skill needed is not designed for experienced players. It is designed for new players. Try to remember back when you started this game. Could you have built those rockets and done those flights right off the bat? My bet is no... you couldn't have. Now try to remember that the game isn't finished and soon money will be added. Imagine that the rockets you used to do those flights cost 3 to 4 times more money then you'll have at the time. The difficulty level is just about right to me. It could of course be tweaked here and there but it is certainly not too easy. -
Parachute deploys sound... Parachute fully opening sound... I did notice something new though... my LV30s and 45s at full throttle sometimes have a little explosion sound and shoot sparks... but they aren't overheating and this doesn't seem to effect thrust... So I don't know if there are supposed to do that or not... I think it happens during the transition from on of the layers of atmo to another or maybe from atmo to space... it looks and sounds kinda like the jet engine flame out effect ... but the engine doesn't flame out.
-
I want to see the flavor text... Tech tree aside... I'm going to be seeking out all the different results we can get from doing experiments in the different biomes of the Mun and Kerbin. I'm also kinda excited to work on my low available parts engineering ideas. ... not that I couldn't do that before... but before it was "why bother?" and here there's a reason to do it.
-
well... that's now... As I type this my clocks read 1am EST which equals 12am CST... No update is happening... so I guess not.
-
No but... If you haven't turned off auto-update then it's set to auto update. That update dialog is for updating the steam client itself. It's a program too... that gets updates. Updates for your games happen within the client and don't pop up like that. Updating your games doesn't require steam to restart or for your computer to restart.
