Hodo replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Does the Voxaero work in .90 or just 1.0? Just wondering so I could test out some of my older designs see how they fair in the NuFar.- 14,073 replies

I think you're doing it wrong also. There is an easier way though. For imgur the owner of the picture just clicks on the picture and to the right there will be a few options.... one of which is BBCode, copy that one and you can paste it here without insert image option and shazaam! You have an imbedded picture.

Never bothering to go the Joolian system. Been to Eve, Moho, Duna, Ike, but never Jool.

[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
Hodo replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I am glad I just moved my .90 install so I can keep playing. Still not sure what I am going to do though, was planning on going to Jool finally, but not sure I want to bother. I designed an SSTO and everything, even tested it on Kerbin for VTOL landing and take off. But not sure if I want to bother going now.- 14,073 replies

B9 Procedural wings, with the fuel in the wings is truly where its at.

It is not a big ship part, it is a part that just requires a bit more care to use, no more UBER single stage to anywhere LV-N craft that are smaller than a four door sedan. Now you just have to think a bit bigger and differently. Use that massive untapped potential between your ears and figure something out. Regex has given you one quick fix.

All of that is available through a few mods. Flaps can be set in FAR even the angle can be set and combined with other control surfaces like Ailerons. Escape systems with parachutes for the Kerbals, can be found in the Vangaurd EVA parachutes, I use it all the time, and I just added the eject cfg to each one of the aircraft cockpits. Aircraft based "SAS" systems, PID Tuner Pilot assistant tool is exactly that and it works wonders. Avionic lights, there is an actual mod called exactly that. And if you are having a YAW issue, then you do not have enough vertical stabilizer force to keep the craft flying straight. This can be fixed by either making a BIG ugly tail or just moving it further back from the CoM of the craft where it would have more affect.

Broken poll is a broken poll and that is a broken poll. I can say that if you are using LV-Ns to get to orbit you are using them wrong. But if you are having heating issues with them in space then they are to far from a good cooling part. I have tried the wing parts as radiators and that works pretty well, but does add a lot of extra parts. Another thing I did was move them away from another heat producing part. You ideally want them connected to a part with a VERY high heat tolerance. I may experiment with attaching the LV-N to a heat shield..... hmmmm....

[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
Hodo replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Not going to disagree with you on most of that. I will disagree with you on the trained pilot part. You just have to have a basic understanding of how aircraft work, that doesn't require me to be a trained pilot just someone who paid attention in science class when we made paper airplanes in the 6th grade.- 14,073 replies

[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
Hodo replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Considering that in old FAR I was able to make a to scale replica of a Mig-21 and it handled pretty much like a Mig-21 is stated to handle, it even topped out at near the same speed for the mass of the craft and TWR. The only difference was the Mig-21 I made could climb much higher then the real one. But that was an atmosphere scaling issue more than a FAR issue. The NuStock is a good model, WAY better than the old but it is not FAR or even NEAR. It is more or less something between. And Ferram4 I would just ignore anyone who says FAR is easier than stock. I have heard it before the 1.0 came out and I laughed at them.- 14,073 replies

Confused with the new aerodynamics model...
Hodo replied to Candlelight's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Planes are simple, just keep your CoL just behind your CoM and dont get crazy with your design. The simple rule of thumb is "if it looks right it will fly right." Is very true in the new stock model. -
[1.0.2] B9 Aerospace | Procedural Parts 0.40 | Updated 09.06.15

How will this work with NuFAR? This is the BIG question. -
[1.1] BDArmory v0.11.0.1 (+compatibility, fixes) - Apr 23
Hodo replied to BahamutoD's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
I am wondering how NuFAR will affect these parts when it gets released. -
Ok, so I need a spaceplane 101
Hodo replied to juanml82's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Your landing gear are to far back away from your CoM. Your main gear, or your rear most gear should be no further back than your CoL, this is called the point of rotation for an aircraft. The swerving issue is because your front gear are set at a steep angle for caster. In other words they are tilted forwards. You may want to put a larger gear on the front and use the offset tool to shift it up into the body so it be inline or just below your main gear. Ideally you would like your plane to be level when sitting on the ground or with the nose slightly pointed up. -

Thinking about making the switch to FAR.
Hodo replied to capi3101's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I did the samething. I found the new aero model an improvement but it is far from being FAR. The plane I made took off at 34m/s, which is STUPID slow but hey it flew at that speed, and it wasn't even a small craft. -

Sorry but this is great, I played around in the stock new aero system for an hour lastnight and built a functional SSTO first go. But I am used to FAR so it wasn't a big deal to me. It is nice to start to see more "realistic" looking craft starting to show up, instead of these contraptions from the nightmares of Jim Henson. -

Yep I can say the same, tried the new aerodynamics, they are a GREAT improvement over the old but I will stick with FAR.- 14,073 replies

So the new model is unimpressive to me from the live stream, while it is an improvement it isn't something I would find fun, I will stick to FAR.- 14,073 replies

Terminology Question: SSTO and Drop Tanks
Hodo replied to Tassyr's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I will tell you exactly how I do it with SSTO space planes. I have a refueling station usually at 100km orbit above Kerbin. I have the craft in question launch and dock with the station. It refuels there and waits for its launch window from that point. Then when the time comes I undock and continue on the mission. No that isnt a small SSTO, it is large enough to haul 25tons into orbit... its just that station is that big. I didnt want to have to deal with refueling it that often. -

I think Ferram4 is going to need the whole output.log to tell you. But it most likely is not related to FAR. Looks like a sprite problem.- 14,073 replies

What part of STOCK, are you failing to grasp. TAC Fuel Balancer doesn't alter a thing it just lets you control the fuel tank draining and filling with a simple UI instead of clicking on each individual tank. The craft is stock, it will work stock, he is just suggesting you use TAC Fuel Balancer for simplified use of the craft.

Who needs a lander? Those were some fun designs. I am working on replacing the first one.
