Go see a movie or something to shorten the wait. I’d expect it around 1800 EST which is about 7 hours from when this was posted. Past experience, also: close to end of working day in Mexico City, where Squad is housed. There are always last minute fixes, I don’t expect them to go live earlier.

[1.12.x] Chatterer v.0.9.99 - Keep talking ! [20 Mar 2020]
Kerbart replied to Athlonic's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I read somewhere about a thunderous speech Gene Kerman held in the Austronaut Center about “professional work attitude” and “com lines are for mission updates, not idle banter,” perhaps that’s what’s caused it? Take your time, your mod is greatly appreciated, but it should be a hobby and not an obligation!- 751 replies

[1.12.x] Chatterer v.0.9.99 - Keep talking ! [20 Mar 2020]

The previous version worked better for me in 1.3.1 than the new version does in 1.4; that’s all I can say.- 751 replies

Thank god, a thread about the new EULA. It’s about time we start discussing it.
-
For a controller you quickly end up with an Arduino or something along those lines. That'll still require some knowledge of electronics on how to hook things up. Spend a bit more and you get a microcontroller that runs on MicroPython. Yes, it's a programming language, but fairly easy to learn. And you wouldn't need much more than the commands to trigger the servos, and a sleep command anyway.
-
Languages like Scratch and Blockly allow you to program visually. But how to connect it to your hardware?

Brainlord’s Petition to Change the EULA
Kerbart replied to Brainlord Mesomorph's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Suppose that somehow, the stars align, and this "open letter" gets the attention of Squad management. Suppose that, not only do the stars align, but the heavens open and out come angels blowing their trumpets and sprinkling pixie dust, and Squad management decides to forward it to Take Two management with the title "An open letter from one of our customers regarding privacy concerns in the EULA" And suppose that, not only do the stars align, and the heavens open, and we have angels blowing their trumpets and sprinkling pixe dust, but we also have unicorns farting rainbows, and Take Two management actually opens the email and reads it. Now, at this point, we all agree we're pretty deep already in fantasy land, right? The email gets read, and is forwarded to T2's attorneys. I wonder if, in downtown Manhattan, they'll be able to find a good one. Do they even have attorneys there? But I digress. The attorneys reaction to this letter: "BWAHAHAHAHA. HAHAHAHAHA. HAHAHAHAHAHA." Really, you need a lawyer for this stuff.- 180 replies

Brainlord’s Petition to Change the EULA
Kerbart replied to Brainlord Mesomorph's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Any butcher can hold a knife. And yet. I'd rather have a certified surgeon cut me open to remove an infected appendix than the local meat cleaver "who has plenty experience with cutting meat it." Would you let the gas pipes in your house be fixed by your brother-in-law who has watched "three or four youtube videos, it's really not that hard" or do you play safe and use an licensed & bonded plumber? It works the same with law. Yes, it would be nice if it were readable as plain English. But the words do not always have the same meaning, and punctuation matters. An experienced eye can spot deficiencies where you don't, and won't get alarmed where you will. So yes, I'll be more likely to take the word from "someone who studied for it" than from a good willing but untrained layman whose approach is "how hard can it be."- 180 replies

[1.12.x] Chatterer v.0.9.99 - Keep talking ! [20 Mar 2020]
Kerbart replied to Athlonic's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
There's not a lot of chatter. A little bit after an EVA (or ending one) but that's about it (using default settings). After an EVA the debug window shows "initiating chatter" (or something along those lines) and then nothing.- 751 replies

Brainlord’s Petition to Change the EULA
Kerbart replied to Brainlord Mesomorph's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The Star Wars people were a significant crowd who where threatening to vote with their feet. the challenge you will have with a go-fundme is that the majority of the players won’t care. All this is part of the course for any of the T2 games (it’s very boilerplate after all) and to me it just seems “business as usual” without any nefarious intentions. And I suspect most players see it that way. What will work is a player revolt with no one buying the expansion pack. But unless the majority of the players feels that there are serious enough issues with the EULA to warrent that, nothing will happen. One of the reasons there’s nothing actually draconian in the EULA is because exactly that will happen, and T2 has no reason to let it happen. Most of the stuff in the EULA is to protect the company against damaging behavior. Mods that allow access to the expansion pack without paying for it, x-rated KSP videos, those kind of things. Will they send C&D letters to modders who have a 2-Kerbal Gemini-like capsule? No, of course not. That’d be alienating the user community that makes the game valuable to them in the first place. The value of, say, the MH Gemini capsule is not that it’s just a 2-Kerbal capsule, it’s the Squad (nearly stock) capsule. Having a mod that allows you to load a vessel that uses the MH parts with your identical (name, id, geometry) would undermine sales as its aimed at the Expansion Pack and then they will go after you. That’s what the EULA provides for them. Yes, large publishers have done stupid things in the past. But mostly in a different context, and mostly they learned from it. I never heard of Microsoft destroying Minecraft. Yes, there’s Micropayments in it now, but you can play the game as it was always played without making a single payment. Surely T2 will monetize KSP. With Expansion Packs, as they’re doing right now. And surely they will keep the community alive. That’s where the money is.- 180 replies

Brainlord’s Petition to Change the EULA
Kerbart replied to Brainlord Mesomorph's topic in KSP1 Discussion
If your intention is to get something changed, this won’t do it. The tone of the letter is too informal to take seriously, and the medium, that is hardly monitored by Squad, let alone Take Two, will not really get their attention. If you want them to study this, I’d have the letter written by an attorney and have her (or him, I don’t want to be sexist) deliver it (or have her/him deliver it through certified mail). That will get their attention. Surely this will cost some money, but if you’re really concerned about it...- 180 replies

That's not how it works though. The torches & pitchfork crowd pretty much wants the DLC to be per-launch micropayments, and T2 telling mod developers “that's a nice mod, we'll take it from here for our next DLC and here's a cease & desist letter from an aggressive lawyer so stop working on it” Because they'll look silly if it doesn't. As it turns out, the Expansion pack turns out what you pointed out; ...an expansion pack. So now there's going to be major disappointment over that. I'm sure we'll hear complaining that there's only parts in it and I don't care for missions. Based on the previews, I like what seems to be in it, I'm used to paying $25-$50 for a single airplane for MS Flightsim. $15 for a big bag of goodies and a new play mode with an extensive workflow-style editor? Count me in!

Where are we going to share the Mission Builder missions?
Kerbart replied to Radiatin's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Never really cared for this reasoning, but I don't care that much anyway. -

If you run a company you can't afford to "not care" about a large section of your customers. -
Where are we going to share the Mission Builder missions?
Kerbart replied to Radiatin's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yes, but there are clear issues with that. Aside from the ability to monetize mods/missions (which I'm not sure can be turned off or not, I'm not that familiar with Steam Workshop): It's not accessible for those who do not use Steam. Personally I like Steam and the way it works, but some don't and then say "well you're excluded from community missions" is just not right It will add the missions to the Steam install. I'm not the only one who plays (various installs) on copies of that. So I never get to see those missions -
So I created a new logo/avatar for myself...

Here's the image as a 150×150 icon (png): And here's the large (750×750) one. I added some whitespace so that should stop it from running into the edges. It looks P-E-R-F-E-C-T!! -

Nice! The avatar gets cut off at the bottom, you'll probably need to resize it just a bit when uploading it to the forum. I like it! But I might be biased... Edit: I see you're working on it. Make sure it's 150×150 pixels! -

Kerbart replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in Kerbal Network
You could reverse it. Have the earth there and cut the letters out in black. Main issue remains scale, as you mentioned. I would shy away from photos and pick something stylistic (“But Kerbart, you have some Soviet-era propaganda poster, that's pretty much a photo.” “Yes, but it's not a logo either.”) -
That seems a very limited upside, given that MH has implemented facilities for mods as well. (Emphasis added by Kerbart) As for creating a mod that creates similar functionality as the MH mission builder/player: Good luck with that. You'll need a mod that starts at the main game menu and then starts the mission. I haven't seen any mod that does something like that. But: I'm not big into mods, so maybe there is one. You'll need a mission builder. If you say that missions can be hacked together from modifying scenarios, I have one word: CKAN. Given it's popularity and all it does is replacing a file copy job, I would not be too optimistic that most players will hex-edit scenarios to make their own. But suppose we get beyond all this, and we're pretty far in la-la-land at this point, what format of mission files will be the de-facto standard? The ones from the Squad Mission Builder, which are pretty much stock, or those from whoever built a (laden with issues as it's not as tightly integrated into the game as MH is) mod to replicate it for free. Keep in mind that the players who really like the mission concept likely already have MH. It keeps being repeated: "Mods are free why pay for DLC" so I keep repeating it as well: the mod is a small part you pay for with DLC. It's a modpack that will be updated as soon as a new version comes out (note all the mod brouhaha right now regarding 1.4 to illustrate that point). It's a modpack with guaranteed support in the future (it will not be abandoned). It's a modpack that is "as good" as stock. If you're looking for a two-Kerbal capsule in a mission, it'll be Squads, not one of the five (or more) existing, even though some of them were published years ago. Why? Because it's Squad's, and it will be considered "THE" 2-Kerbal capsule (moon lander, rover, etc, etc).

No go ahead. Do you want the illustrator file? -

For an avatar that doubles as a recognizable logo on youtube et al, I would go for something simpler like this: -
Anyone mad about mods keeping up with latest updates?
Kerbart replied to Conric005's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You get the excitement of a new version coming out. And then you get the excitement of a mod that's updated. Updates are the gifts that keep on giving! -
Where are we going to share the Mission Builder missions?
Kerbart replied to Radiatin's topic in KSP1 Discussion
If Squad put the money where their mouth is they would organize some platform where we could host our mods, and probably our missions as well. Curses! Forge such a place, Squad! Why won't you?!
