  1. It's properly called the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet. You'll find it in use most any time you come into contact with radio communications, not just the military. And compared to something like morse, for how useful it is, it's well worth your time learning it.
  2. Do you consider functionality being added via a mod as being equivalent to a suggestion? Because there have been a few cases like sub-assemblies, and multiplayer where functionality added by a mod later turns up as a stock feature. Seriously, having a suggestions forum is a good idea.
  3. EA's main failing with the last "Dungeon Keeper", is simple. The very people they should most be targeting, the people who played and loved the original dungeon keeper, who remember a time when you could think Peter Molyneux was a game designer capable of no wrong, remember all too well that this was a time when you bought the game and were done. Back then, the closest you came to DLC was expansion packs, which were expected to add substantially to the base game. Companies used to patch and update their games, often adding new content as a thank-you to the consumers who had bought the game, months and years after release. The idea of buying a digital hat for real money, was ludicrous. And they wonder why people like me look at the new one and laugh. And then go reinstall the old copy, which is probably gathering dust on a shelf somewhere. Actually, now that i think about it, probably the most innovative thing EA could do right now, is go back to the old way of doing things.
  4. Agree wholeheartedly. Mods made buying the game a no-brainer. I was going to wait for a much more complete version before I realized the scope of things that mods added in.

    Vgm?

Im going to go with the themes from Street Fighter 2. Capcom have reworked them numerous times over the years, and they still sound great. Chrono Trigger was pretty good to. And while I'm at it, although it's not technically videogame music, I think it's worth looking up the rather decent "Jesus on E's" track from the Amiga demoscene (you'll probably notice several samples of someone that's rather fallen from grace recently, but its still a pretty decent track nonetheless)
  6. Either way, you've done your best to update us, which is much appreciated.
  7. Thing is, with problems such as these, it's not always easy to pin down the problem based on the symptoms. It's easy to tell when you haven't fixed the problem, because it keeps happening. On the other hand, even when you have fixed the problem, there can easily be a reasonably long period of uncertainty while you're basically just waiting for the problem to re-occur. Such is life for a sysadmin. Then add in end-users who think that explaining in minute detail how much the problem is inconveniencing them, presumably because they think this results in a quicker fix (seriously, it doesn't), and you arrive at the reason so many of us earn the BOFH label. Now on the other hand, in nearly 20 years of server-managing, I've rarely held it to be a good idea to invoke need-to-know, unless there is a serious need for secrecy. There's a fine line between saying nothing, and looking like you don't know what the problem is. (Not an accusation, merely an observation based on my own experiences - KasperVLD has done sterling work keeping us informed IMO.)
  8. Maybe. That's about all that you can say with the information we have at the moment. Historically, Harvester & co had said that .22 would break saves, but in the end they wrote a converter, so it's not beyond possibility that they will do the same again. I'll be backing up my copy of 23.5 to be sure tho...
  9. On the whole I quite like the music as it stands, although I wouldn't complain at all if some more was added.
  10. I don't like to call them primitive, although technologically they are. However, if you only cherry-pick the things about their cultures that are in contrast to our own, I can see how you see it that way. Many of these cultures still engage in inter-tribal warfare. They are really not so different from us when it comes right down to it.
  11. Oh look, a fellow Fruity Loops user!
  12. There are various utilities you can get for keeping track of your bandwidth usage, and it's probably a good idea to have a look on your router to see if there's any facility for tracking it there - that's obviously the ideal location for monitoring bandwidth usage. I mention this, because you seem surprised and/or unaware of how much you've been downloading, which has me wondering if you're the only one using the network. 257GB is not exactly a tiny amount of data to be downloading. I've had ISP's that throttle my connection when I hit the monthly cap, but I've never had one that outright cut me off.
  13. I would very much prefer the asterisks, rather than outright deleting the word. Honestly that goes more than far enough to protect my fragile little mind IMHO. Also, if I'm trying to fill in the blank in my head, I can pretty much guarantee I'm coming up with something far worse than what the poster actually put there. I don't suppose there's an option to disable the censor on an individual basis? (IE it would be on by default, but I could just disable it, and deal with the naughty words.)
  14. Has KSP found it's unique voice? Yes. Did the presence of screenshots showing docked craft in the link provided by the OP, confuse the heck out of me until I realized the post had been edited? Most assuredly.
  15. I know very well that I've learned various things while playing KSP, and I'll be one of the first to jump on the "it's educational" bandwagon. But at the same time, I have a hard time pinning down exactly how or where the game itself educated me. In fact it seems to me that I have relied on the community that has built up around the game to do the actual educating, much more so than the game itself. For that reason, although I do agree with the sentiment expressed in the OP, I would caution that exactly how it is done is crucial. KSP is already educational. Could it be more so? Maybe. Does it need to be? Not necessarily.
  16. So basically... Wir müssen Raum für Lebensraum erobern!
  17. It seems less weird to me. A proxy is intended to cache information in order to reduce the load on the main webserver. If communications go down between the proxy and the webserver, the proxy will generally continue to serve it's local copy to requests, until the cache is old enough to be deemed invalid. At this time, if the communication is still down, you'll encounter an error. So ultimately, this kind of up-down-up behaviour we're seeing at the front-end seems normal enough, knowing that there is an issue at the back end. (And to whoever is trying to fix it, good luck, these things often have an ETA analogous to the length of a piece of string.)
  18. You're going through a proxy which seems to be having issues talking to the webserver hosting the KSP forums. Ironically, I'm encountering the same thing trying to post this reply ><
  19. Over a hundred cities to unlock for Kerbin @ €2.99 each Hopes and dreams expansion Free McDonalds part which makes it twice as easy to get into space for some reason - free with any happy meal for a limited time. edit all physics processed on ea servers, for totally not DRM reasons.
  20. Agree that in principle, increasing the size of the dev team may be a good idea. However there are many subtle issues with this seemingly simple solution, as already highlighted in other posts above. Furthermore, considering the small size of the dev team, I would predict that we would need to be prepared for a slowdown in the pace of development while the new guys are brought up to speed. It would however be an extremely opportune time for code-review / massive bugfixing.
  21. Been constructing my asteroid base for the last month or so. It's probably the most fun I've had while digging a hole.
  22. KSP: Space, explosions, or double your money back!
  23. You could try selling a few cards if you just need a few cents - there's a fair demand for them at the moment. Got Baldurs Gate 2 in the end thanks to the daily deals. Turns out you turn a few heads when you jump into the air shouting "YES!" for ostensibly no reason.
  24. Apparently they're only looking for $500 in funding now, and not the $5000 they were originally looking for.
