KSP nominated for Best Sci-Fi Game - Voting now open
pxi replied to CaptRobau's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Voted. X Rebirth is there in the sci-fi category too. It's not even out yet, is it? -
It might actually be worth looking into seeing if you can do a HAM Radio Licence course, that would probably teach you a lot of what you want to know.

I died, but I'm ok now. On a more on-topic note, I played a small MMO game (~2500 regular players) for a number of years. I remember three or so of the players dying in that time, although I imagine there were others. The social nature of an MMO makes it more likely that you would hear about it, as opposed to a forum for a game. I'd say statistically it's probably likely, but unless we actually hear about it, it's very hard to say.

Windows 7: Start -> Shutdown Windows 8: Swipe -> Gear Icon -> Settings -> Power -> Shutdown I also never *ever* had to google how to shut down my pc until 8. And wait till you have to try getting one into safe mode, I cannot get the boot key combo to work no matter how hard I try (yes I know it's changed.) Luckily you never have to use safe mode at any other time than when you already have access to the operating system normally, right?

Aha, I assumed hack gravity worked everywhere once you enabled it, thanks for clearing that up!
-
In my headcanon it'd be wingdings, but close enough. Obviously for human eyes, you'd need to add another layer of subtitles, superimposed on top, in comic sans.
-
Unless I massively mis-read the OP, use of hack-gravity is a requirement, so everything up to and including eve would be up for grabs as I see it.

I had a look at the persistance files on my system, the only place I saw paths being specified was for the flags, and they were specified with the *nix-style / Mods that write to the persistance file, that's a thought tho...

Ok here we go with part one of my attempt, in which I successfully leave Jeb stranded on the Mun... Taking off: Reaching 40km altitude - 10 points Reaching a stable orbit of Kerbin - 15 points Beginning the Mun transfer: Probably the weirdest Mun encounter trajectory I've ever seen: Aparently this is what it means: We can fix that: Burning retrograde into orbit around the Mun: And that's our orbit - 60 points: Watching the vertical speed indicator, and wondering exactly how much thrust does the EVA suit provide... Enough thrust aparently: Getting close: Touchdown! - 100 points: Jeb seems to be taking it in his stride: Of course, there's no scientific value in doing this, but think of the propaganda value! Quick, plant a flag and pose for a photo: I'd continue, but it's past 5am, and I don't think this will function as a reason why my clients pc's won't be being fixed in the morning. More to come.

It's a good point. All things being equal I can't see the craft files being treated any different from the save files. I've run into issues processing text files from Windows on Linux hosts before, so thought it's worth eliminating the obvious things first. Edit: Jfox, could you upload the savefile somewhere for us to take a look at?

Actually since 3.1 I remember the transition to 95 quite well. In my opinion the transition to 8 is a similar leap in terms of how they have changed the UI. The difference is that with 95 you could still use the old program manager if you really couldn't let 3.1 go. (See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/gg213851.aspx under the 'change comes slowly' header.) Pity they left it to third parties to offer start menu replacements. (I'm aware of the right-click menu, but that only contains a subset of the original functionality.)

Downloading as we speak. Tonight Jeb, we're going to strap some rockets to some rockets!
-
None. Jeb has had a couple of unexpected long-duration mission extensions so far, but we've always got him back to KSC reasonably soonâ„¢.
-
I moved all my assets into Yellowshinyum years ago, and have amassed several metric tons of snacks in anticipation of the global economic collapse that will inevitably follow the bubble popping on this rocket fad. - A Prepared Kerbal (Ontopic, looking forward to new places to visit.)

That's the thing, believe it or not, a good portion of software development, actually doesn't involve much typing. Instead, there is a lot of head-scratching, and research in terms of 'what do I want to do, what needs to happen to make that happen, and how exactly do I shoehorn that into a form that makes sense to the compiler, and ideally is elegantly efficient as well.' Believe it or not, your IDE will not pop up Clippit to just hand you this information; 'It looks like you're writing a rocket sim...' style. I've been down that road myself to some extent. For example, I spent weeks googling to discover unit vectors which I was able to implement in four lines.

Looks great! Edit: This set me to wondering: According to wikipedia: So if we were going to go with the usual 1:10 scale, 1km long, 650m high, 500m wide.

I have a suspicion this may have something to do with how Windows and Linux treat new lines in text files. In Windows, a newline is specified with a carrige return and a line feed - \r\n In Linux, it only uses the linefeed character - \n You could try running the savefile through the dos2unix program http://linuxcommand.org/man_pages/dos2unix1.html I suspect you'd need to do the same with any .craft files you have too.

It's not so much a curve as a cliff to be honest. For a good while I was happy just surviving the first winter.
-
Yeah I'd have to agree with Dwarf Fortress. Once you give it a while, the text-graphics become suprisingly easy to navigate. It's the only game that I've ever heard of that has an O'Reilly book.

These really are good, kudos! Who's the music by?

Non-repetitive textures of planets
pxi replied to Kulebron's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
In principle this is doable afaik. But you may well end up seeing the same kind of repetition - the human brain is very good at spotting patterns like this. Look at your second example: Look for the stormtrooper and darth vader helmets, see what I mean? It's worth looking into though, but needs care to pull it off well. -
Be these people. That is all.

Open discussion: Dev Blogs have come to an end?
pxi replied to Luigi Broglio's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Much appreciated, although on a scale of one to ten, with ten being 'the sky is falling', a delay on the weekly comes in about 0.2
