Kron 6 is performing well in orbit, so another part will be docked to it soon - the service module. Rocket is already on the pad. Three Mainsails in the first stage, one Skipper in the second. Launch is tomorrow.

The Kerbal civilization does not employ criminal methods. They'd just spend more money on bureaucracy, probably the Department of redundancy department. Also probably diverting the public focus onto something else like the fact Jool is green. That always works. Sadly, I couldn't do a video because all the details were maxed out, so another program gulping the resources would be too much for my poor lappy. Instead I did those rotations with Beros and Kyx. Anyway, I was thinking about Karen's potential landing sites. These seem interesting. There are probably others as well. Usual approach was visiting both poles and an interesting feature between them. I'll have to pack enough oxidizer.
-
Camera images of highest resolution downloaded. Two images of Karen. Plock Beros in three consecutive stages of rotation. Same as Beros, here's Kyx. As you can see, Beros and Kyx are way too small to be discerned as anything than lumpy rocks, which they probably are. Kaos 3 zipped by Plock at 3.4 km/s, less than 5 km above the terrain. No special features were seen. The probe measured complex electrostatic interactions between Plock and Karen. As they spin one around another, they mess up their electrical fields. Surface has been identified as cryogenic volatiles contaminated with complex organic molecules. Atmosphere was not detected. The Ministry Of No Better Things To Do is pleased by the findings. It now considers Beros and Kyx as giant potatos, possibly being beneficial to the Kerbalkind colonization of the solar system.

Kaos 3 mission report: probe visited Karen and went through Plock's periapsis at 5 km, at 3.4 km/s speed. Complex electrical interactions observed by the magnetometer and the radiowave experiments. Preparing the images for download.

http://arstechnica.co.uk/science/2016/07/reaction-engines-moves-ahead-with-single-stage-to-orbit-sabre-demo-engine/ Am I the only person here who is skeptical of this? IDK, seems to me SpaceX is doing it better.
-
Kerbalism. The engine is fine because its heat output should already be very tiny, so 4x isn't gonna pose problems. Also, it never again did much work.

It's fascinating how, again, a game invented by the troublesome antisocial Japanese culture, based on inherently evil and highly illegal activity (making animals fight among themselves, capturing them and brainwashing them), is somehow accepted because it's all about the money the thing brought to its authors. Long live capitalism, I guess... In real world, Ash would be placed in a correctional institution and Oak would be imprisoned for decades because of his attrocities.
-
Beros is no longer a pixel and we can finally see some of its surface features. Kyx emerged from the darkness and is visible in the lower right corner.
-
Karen has almost occulted Plock, but the probe is faster, so it did a little retrograde dance in the sky. Beros is still pixel or two. Higher resolution images are expected very soon.
-
Hours before flyby, Kaos 3 is sending better and better images of the dwarf planet and its satellite(s).
-
Unless you don't use life support mods, I would not recommend Hohman transfers. Targets beyond Jool aren't suitable for such trajectories. Just use hyperbolic one.

Possibly, but unlikely. Eve, Joolean system (Tylo, I'm looking at you!), Ablate , Dres, there are stock targets to tackle and they have #2 priority (#1 is OPM). Maybe in the future, if the mod gets more developed.

There is a ton of these bodies out there. As we discover more and more of this glorified leftover space dough balls, hopefully people will be less annoying about Pluto because it really annoys me.
-
There are more pixels here. >:D No mod. I just take a screenshot (supersized screenshotting in KSP config file, factor 2) and then find the glowing dot in the image, crop it and rexize it with just pixel resize.

[KSP 1.6.1] Stock Visual Enhancements [v1.4.1] [20 March 2019]
lajoswinkler replied to Galileo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
As nice as this mod looks, I'd never add any kind of clouds on airless bodies. It's incredibly unrealistic and tbh looks awful. Mun is all about contrasts and vacuum. Yes, actual Moon does have weird dust phenomena, but it's only barely visible in some circumstances by human eye looking from the surface. Other than that, there is no clouds or convection or anything like that. Gas expands in all directions, dust follows parabolic arches. Also, if there's a way to extinguish the auroras on the daylight side, that would be nice. They are so incredibly dim, actually. If they were visible in broad daylight, it would mean the object's atmosphere is being actively destroyed. In any case, it looks nice with the rest, but it's so large. Even the lowest resolution is hundreds of MB which makes it unpractical for people who already use mods, unless they have beasty machines. -
Update. Kaos 3 is one day from Plock flyby - some 282 000 km away. Newest image. Details of the multitude of objects in Plockian system are starting to get apparent. Hullcam doesn't work, even with the patch. :/
-
My issue was not only that shaders weren't visible, but also that the craft wasn't operable. Even if there was another craft next to it, you couldn't switch to it. Ultimatively, it would crash the whole game and nothing would be saved. I'll check the patch, thanks.

mildly bad news - one of Kaos 3 probe's RTG units has further broken down and now works at 25% capacity, and the other one is at 50%. It's not a big issue, but it illustrates the kind of problems which occur in less than five years in deep space with Kerbalism. Probe core is still functioning fine. Sadly, Hullcam cameras are not operational because the mod hasn't been updated so if anyone knows a decent replacement, let me know.

I will try to make a GIF out of it. I hope I will. LOL Excellent choice. Knugen it is.

Oxidation is out of the question in vacuum. The only thing that comes to my mind is stuff like tin whiskers, but it's something you avoid by just not using tin solder. On the subject of Kaos 3, its has entered Plock's sphere of influence. Here's the first image of the system. It's not much, but that lower left thingy is Karen. This is the flyby plan of the probe. I've spent around 4 m/s to arrange this. If you think 4 km is too low, let me know ASAP. There is still plenty of fuel left for an adjustment.

The still unnamed lander (I'm waiting, @tygoo7 ) has been launched and has been docked to the ship. There is still a spend first stage floating next to Kron 6 and it will remain there for some time. The centrifuge module has been tested and shut down for the time being.
-
Actually, NFE does have a config file or something that decays the blutonium... It's silly that RTG unit could fail, because it has no moving parts and nothing particularly sensitive. It's just a lump of radioactive ceramic that releases heat that flows over simple modules which generate electrical tension. I'll look into this because I want that decay, again.
-
@tygoo7 You've been the closest with your estimate for the reentry speed of Kron 5, so now you have the opportunity to give a name to the lander which will visit Plock, Karen, Beros and Kyx. Valentina and Jebediah are waiting and the lander is packed with goodies.
