Nothing new. You could download software for such things like ten years ago.

Only Venus is visible during the daytime. Sometimes not even Venus. I've seen it during full daylight conditions. The sky needs to be very clear and you basically need some help with a nearby tree or a pole, and an optical device to establish the first position. To catch it with a naked eye, just like that, is extremely difficult.
-
That's sometimes possible with Venus. Jupiter, absolutely not. It's too faint.

Kron 4 pilots report corrected inclination and successful start of trans-Urlum injection burn. First set of tanks has been jettisoned, and then later a second one. They were plainly visible on the external camera. The reactors are now very exposed.

It reminds us of craters because there's a brighter patch just right of it, so it looks like a bright rim. However, that part of Pluto is well within its shade so if it really is a crater, its rim would have to be enormous and the whole thing would be sticking out and be visible on rotation. It's very cool to see the terminator like that.

Radon86, you haven't paid attention. Here's a better photo of the dots. http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/jpeg/PIA19579.jpg Yes, it would be interesting to land something there.
-
Corrected, thanks. The ministry has realized there are no emergency bananas onboard, but it has been decided not to let the crew find out about it. It is entirely possible that a probe with few bananas will be sent to rendezvous with Kron 4 as a surprise.

I think you might've misinterpreted the whole "NASA images" discussion here which spiked around the color, not illumination. We're just in search of information on what kind of filters are used. For example, in the latest Cassini's images of Dione, it was said the images (monochrome) were taken through clear filters, meaning it's "full spectrum", as it's called in photography jargon. And that's ok. We know it's grayscale containing wide spectrum and that's it. The problem is when we're fed with images without basic information supplied. Is that too much to ask? It really isn't. Is it grayscale or is it really just gray to us? Is it overexposed? Are the colors false? Basic questions. I'm well aware of how our eyes+brain work and I'm by no means ignorant in the field of photography or physiology. The problem of not supplying the public with basic information is that it leads to confusion and confusion leads to mistrust. You know how teh interwebs work. NASA's public relations should know that inadequate information today causes massive confusion and conspiracy theories and whatnot. It ultimatively returns back as lowered public support, yet NASA still behaves inert and slow like it's living in the 60s when all the public got was nice photos in magazines. - - - Updated - - - Chicken FTW. The photos are not radar heightmaps with pasted textures. They are taken by a Framing Camera and are grayscale. I have no idea what's the spectral range of the images. The Framing Camera is designed to acquire detailed optical images for scientific purposes as well as for navigation in the vicinities of Vesta and Ceres. Dawn carries two identical and physically separate cameras for redundancy, each with its own optics, electronics and structure. Each camera is equipped with an f/7.9 refractive optical system with a focal length of 150mm and can use 7 color filters, provided mainly to help study minerals on Vesta's surface. In addition to detecting the visible light humans see, the cameras register near-infrared energy. Each camera includes 8 gigabits of internal data storage. The Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Germany, was responsible for the cameras' design and fabrication, in cooperation with the Institute for Planetary Research of the German Aerospace Center and the Institute for Computer and Communication Network Engineering of the Technical University of Braunschweig. I assume the photos are taken through clear filters, so we're getting something like 400-1100 nm, as you can see here. http://indico.cern.ch/event/43007/material/6/0?contribId=19 That's basically VIS+NIR combined so it's quite close to VIS only. The conical thing is just photographed from a different perspective.

Thanks you all. Last night I've saved the v1.0.2. folder before updating to v1.0.3. There are too many mods and waiting for all of them to update would not be a fun thing to do. It would also be risky, as this ship was designed with having 1.0.2. rules and properties in mind. So we're continuing with the story where we left. Next stop is equalizing the ship's solar orbit inclination with that of Urlum's orbit. Current difference is 0.6°.

"streaking across the sky" - yeah, I really don't think that's what you saw. Streaking means it was moving fast. You saw a sunset illuminated contrail.

Finally, a less exposed image of the spots. Ceres is still much brighter here than it really is. "A cluster of mysterious bright spots on dwarf planet Ceres can be seen in this image, taken by NASA's Dawn spacecraft from an altitude of 2,700 miles (4,400 kilometers). The image, with a resolution of 1,400 feet (410 meters) per pixel, was taken on June 9, 2015." http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA19579 Also, compare this, with this.

Nice p.u.s.s.y. cat. You should apply an anthelmintic ASAP. They're cheap, something like 1-2 $/pill. Mash the appropriate quantity into powder, use few drops of water to make a paste and smear it under its lip to let it lick the chemical. Also, flea spray and ampoules. Visit to the vet for a general checkup is a good thing, at least to let it get accustomed to the procedure. How do you know the cat's s.e.x (damn it, censorship)? It's easy to make a mistake with kittens.

Trust me, they do. Just because you're at least reasonably intelligent doesn't mean others are, too.

It was something like 60% for the last burn only. I think there were four burns: first the one with the last stage of the delivery rocket, and then three nuclear thermal engine ones. Meanwhile, I've looked into the thermal properties of the propulsion unit. The system could use one more radiator. Overheating can happen during long burns (>15 min or so) and appears in the middle engine. This is the scheme I've designed for the ship. Sorry for the crude drawing.

Has anyone taken a close look at Microsoft's Privacy Policy?

What about it? I'm not one of those gullible people who jumped into Windows 8. I use 7. It works perfectly (best OS I've ever had) and supports everything, so why would I want anything else? -
Outer planets mod is a work in progress and is the most stock looking planetary system expansion you can get. I'd really like if it became integrated into the stock game one day. It has used Eeloo as Sarnus' satellite. Other than that, changes I'd like to see are: 1) Planet Factory had Ablate, a small vulcanoid planet, tidally locked to Kerbol. One side sandblasted scorching hell, other side eternal darkness. Reaching it was an insane endeavour itself. Today, with the heating system, whole new gameplay opportunities are opened. 2) A comet. Planet Factory had Ascension, a good concept never fully developed. Good luck catching a Gilly sized lump of icy dirtball on an eccentric orbit which could be modelled after Churyumov-Gerasimenko comet's orbit, or with apoapsis somewhere around Eeloo. Periapsis below Kerbin's orbit.

The command pod is from Taurus HCV. Mun stepped in to help and reduced the final burn's delta v by some 60%. Flinging around with periapsis a bit above 24 km. Kron 4 has now left Kerbin's sphere of influence and is travelling in orbit of Kerbol. In a few days, Jebediah and Valentina will once more ignite the engines to put the ship into Hohmann transfer orbit to catch Urlum. At this point, KER displays over 12.4 km/s of possible acceleration.

Modelled after the real things?

The problem is that usually nobody says it's an analogy, and basically no one listening to the speaker doesn't get it's an analogy. Even that isn't good enough. Rubber sheet is a 2D object distorted into 3D space. Therefore, you need a 3D space being distorted into 4D, which is impossible to show. But yes, it's a better analogy, however for the purposes of education, one has to use the rubber sheet if wants to roll around some massive balls. Of course, great care must be taken to make sure the people getting educated understand it's an analogy. The same educational error, but this time with much worse consequences, is the Schrödinger's cat. That thought experiment is designed to be a real life analogy of what happens with particles only. Sadly, almost nobody understood that and people actually think such effects are normal in macroscopic world. It became a breeding ground for nutters.

Is this Windows 10 EULA? Oh well, I wasn't planning on installing that thing anyway. -
Summer starts in a bit more than one hour. The Sun is at its highest apparent position in the sky (peak of analemma) and this day has the longest daytime in the entire year. It's solstice. Meanwhile, KSC is permanently having a scorchio weather. I've heard Unity 5 will enable KSP to use tilted planetary bodies, which is something very important as a teaching tool. What do you think when will KSP get axial tilts? Main question - do you want it to happen?
