  1. WYSIWYG mode on the old forum was broken. Upon hitting backspace it would delete everything typed since the last format change. So if I were to hit backspace after typing the last sentence, it would erase everything back to where I switched to italics. Also, I hope you've read my PM, BBCode still works on this forum!
  2. @Tex_NL, those weren't for the software itself. Those were for the KSP forums specifically. You can't compare them based on what they can do, but on what they will do on the KSP forums. Does that make more sense? I should probably specify that somewhere on the OP...
  3. @steve_v Yeah, the auto-perma parsing is a bit of a turn off, but at least it still works.
  4. Wow....So much happened since your last update. I am so very sorry to hear this news. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers. My only advice is that you cherish this time. You probably already are, and plan to, but I think it should be said again. Enjoy your time with her. Enjoy her presence. As always, myself and others are here if you need to talk, vent, or seek out comfort. We will do our absolute best to provide as much as we can.
  5. There is almost full BBcode support. The only thing's I've found missing are tables and mayble videos and thread links.
  6. So, it's been a few days since the forums got migrated to the new forum hosting software, IPS. Many of you are displeased, some of you like it, and some of you don't care. However, I'm going to try to put together the best comparison between the two that I can. I consider myself somewhat unbiased, since I have participated in many other forums on different softwares than vBulletin, so I'm not a fanboy. And I've also never been on an IPS forum, which means this is all new to me. So, here goes: NOTE: This comparison isn't just IPS vs. vBulletin. This is a comparison between what we had with vBulletin on the KSP forums and what we have now with IPS on the KSP forums. Firstly, lets compare just the main features. No opinions here, just a direct comparison between the two. Feature: vBulletin IPS WYSIWYG editor. Yes, although buggy. (Backspace would delete all the characters since the last format change) Yes, and not buggy. BBcode in editor. Yes, there was a BBcode only mode, edits and unposted quotes still contained the code. Yes. You can use BBcode in the editor. The only drawback is that once it is posted it is converted into WYSIWYG. (excludes certain codes like tables) Reputation. Yes. Rep power was determined by post count and rep given, maxed at 5 per rep. You couldn't give rep to the same person until repping 5 or so others, and couldn't give out more than 10 per 24 hours. Yes. Rep power is 1, but there are no limits besides you can't replike the same post twice. Notifications upon being quoted or mentioned: No. Yes, and they are configurable and can be turned on or off. Ability to keep up with your friends: Sort of, by becoming friends with someone their posts would pop up in your feed. Yes, you can "follow" users and keep up with them. Thread subscription notifications: Sort of. Sometimes failed to work, especially email notifications. Yes, can be configured. Not sure about email updates yet. Search: Yes, but it was terrible unless you knew exactly which 17 options to choose to find the content you want. Haven't tested, please give your experiences with the search feature. Blogs: Yes. Sort of. You can post "Updates" to your profile, although not in a specified place like a blog. "Who's Online" list Yes, and in nice alphabetical order. Yes, but random, extremely hard to check if someone's online using only this. That's all I can think of for now for the basic feature differences and important points. Now for opinions. Styling: vBulletin: It looked OK, but a bit on the older side. Wide body text, fills up 16:9 aspect ratio. IPS: I kind of like it a bit. Of course, I have the style addon that you can find [url=http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/126808-made-a-user-style-to-increase-forum-contrast-and-available-space/]here, which makes contrast better and widens it to fill screen space. By default there is a lot of space on the sides of the forum, as the entire screen is not used. However the addon I linked works to fix this. Editor: vBulletin: WYSIWYG was a bit broken, upon hitting backspace it would delete all text that was typed since the last format change. BBcode was ok, if a bit time consuming. IPS: WYSIWYG works well as intended, and is easy to use. BBcode is still an option for those who prefer it. Reputation: vBulletin: I liked the old system. You could give up to 5 rep per user post, and there were restrictions in place to prevent rep spamming. IPS: Only one rep point per like slows things down from the old system, and isn't totally offset by the no limits on repping someone. You can go rep every post they're ever made in one day if you've got the time. Just not the same post twice. Thread Pages: vBulletin: default was 10 posts per page. Made it easy to gauge how many posts were in a thread by looking at the page number. It also made it easy to scroll to the top and bottom of the thread, while still allowing a good bit of reading before clicking to the next page. IPS: Default is 25 posts per page. This means less "next page" clicks, but it also means its a workout to scroll to the top or bottom of a thread with over 15 replies. Well, that's all I got off the top of my head. If you've got something else to add, let me know! If I think the same thing, or if it's just blatantly obvious, I will add it. For me, the ultimate conclusion is this: I was skeptical at first, but its growing on me. I miss a few features of the old forum, but I also very much like the features of this new forum. Well? What do you think?
  7. Guys...BBcode in editor still works in most cases. So far the only things I've seen that don't work with BBcode is tables. Pretty much everything else still works with BBcode. The only difference is once you post it it just turns into WYSIWYG. But for when you're typing, you can still use BBcode to your hearts content.
  8. Good news! Some formatting BBcode is still functional! Examples below: bold, underline, italics. using [ b ] [ i ] [ u ] (without spaces) Formatting with BBcode! Size, and color still work too! Using [ size=<number> ] and [ color = 'red' or hex value ] Big text! Red Text! And finally, lists work too. These are the only ones I've tried. All of these get converted to WYSIWYG upon posting, so when you edit they will still be formatted and the BBcode will be gone. But you can still use BBcode for premade posts! Item 1 Item 2 Item 3
  9. Great news! Our basic BBcode still works! You can do Bold, Underline, and Italics, as well as color, size, and titled links! Lists also work, much to my delight. Everything in the OP except tables is still functinal with BBCode! Which means we won't have to drastically change the program.
  10. Forums Holy crap links work! Red text maybe? Wonderful! Both links and colors work! Either we still have bits of BBcode, or the BBcode translator is still in effect. Either way I hope it stays. What about colored links though? Red Forums?
  11. There is a way to update the group, magico13 has assured me of that. @Red Iron Crown, I thought rep power was going on the to-do list? Is it not possible? And your argument is made invalid by the fact that our x5 rep count was carried over. If our total rep count was divided by 5 to make it as if we had received all the rep on this forum, then it would be fair to leave it. But we were left with our x5 rep from the old forums, meaning there's lots of users on the list who didn't receive 500 replikes. Either increase rep power, or figure out a way to divide rep to where it would be like all rep had been given on this forum. Right now the hybrid doesn't work well at all. I'm putting the group on hold until the migration chaos subsides anyways, so we have some time to discuss all of this.
  12. @Gaarst I will be updating it. Surely you understand the amount of work it will be though. .-.
  13. @Dman979, you aren't getting kicked out. You're still on the final update of the LGG, which will be available in the OP. You just don't qualify for the newer group, yet. And no, I didn't say 1000 because I would barely make it in the group. It would still be 1000 if I had 900 rep. It's jut the next logical step to reduce group size.
  14. RIC said putting reputation power back in is on the list of what to do, but its behind other things that are more important. I'm working on how to get this working again. I'm trying, don't worry.
  15. Is there a way to put reputation power back up to 5? If our pre-migration rep count is presevered, rep power should be preserved too. It's not like I've been repped 1079 times, I've been repped about a fifth of that many times or less. It should either be the number or reps (I refuse to say "Like") we receive or a total of reps given * reputation power. Not a hybrid. I think.
  16. Have you seen the OP? Tables got screwed, and the entire lower half is one big link to FlowerChild's profile! This is going to cause a lot of frustration on my end. Not to mention the program magico13 provided. I don't think there's a way to output a list format without BBcode.
  17. [quote name='DuoDex']No, unfortunately not, but it is encouraged to repost any articles you might have written in an appropriate subforum :) We will also be able to provide the content of blogs to the writers for a period after the transfer. [/QUOTE] So we're losing every article on the development of KSP....Seriously?? That's tons of information from the developers just getting deleted?
  18. I just gave you the blogs, I didn't archive them yet. :P I can if you want, I just figured you knew how to better than me.
  19. [url]http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/blogs/40772-KasperVld[/url] - Kasper's 3 blogs. [url]http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/blogs/21733-danRosas[/url] - danRosas's blogs. (IMPORTANT PICTURES!) [url]http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/blogs/67937-Maxmaps[/url] - Max's two blogs. One is very cool. That's all from Devs. The real question is are all of the Articles going to be transferred. Those have tons of info in them, I sure hope the transfer over.
  20. [quote name='Red Iron Crown']Endersmens, I was referring to the proposed "Top 100" idea. If you limit the number of people on the list, one must be bumped off when another joins. If you wish to shorten the list, just set the bar higher than 500 points. Maybe pick a round number that gives about 20 members and let it grow again?[/QUOTE] I was thinking that, put it at 1000 until the list gets too large again. How do you guys feel about that? The OVER 1000!! list? The 1k Club? The Rep Grand Group? With the bottom being 1000, there would be almost 60 users in the group, but all of them already have descriptions, and for a long time the people who join will already have descriptions too, so it could make it further than 200 users before I have to make the list smaller again. [COLOR="silver"][SIZE=1]- - - Updated - - -[/SIZE][/COLOR] I take it back. That was not the final update. I didn't know the exact time the forums would go down, but I do now. If anyone passes 500 rep before 9 AM UTC tomorrow, I will update the list once more right before the forums go offline. That way it will really include everyone who joined the list before its demise.
  21. While that is true, problems have arisen. The amount of new people joining the group is growing exponentially. There are currently 51 names without descriptions, and every time I work on them I barely get that number down before more join the list. The list started with 27 users. we're now at 185. A different type of list may be in order. As for the "getting kicked off" thing, they will never be "kicked off" the light green group, as the final update has been posted. It will be kept in a spoiler on the new list, as the final "light green group" before the forum update. The new group will not be the light green group, so if someone is on the LGG and not on the new list they haven't been "kicked off" at all, they just haven't made it to the new list yet. Decisions have to be made. I don't feel good about any of the current options. Still need time to think and more suggestions to be...suggested.
  22. [quote name='Majorjim']Err, yes we will, and this thread is not going to be deleted. [COLOR="silver"][SIZE=1]- - - Updated - - -[/SIZE][/COLOR] see above. [COLOR="silver"][SIZE=1]- - - Updated - - -[/SIZE][/COLOR] Whoops, I just saw that yes rep stays but we have a number now. What will that number be?[/QUOTE] Yes this page won't be deleted..but it won't have a purpose like it did before. We won't have light green bars, or bars at all. Just the number that we already have next to a circle. Hence, light green group will be gone. But I'm trying to figure out how to keep a similar group when the move is done.
  23. [quote name='Rainbowtrout']I didn't make enough contributions! V_V[/QUOTE] Not true at all. Being a moderator is more than enough contribution. :)
  24. Alright guys. Due to time restrictions I was not able to add the remained 51(!) descriptions, so I do apologize if your name is on the list and you don't have a blurb. The forum is due to update within 24 hours, and whenever we come back, we will no longer have rep bars. It is still undecided what will become of this group, but for now, the [B]final update[/B] of the beloved light green group has been published. There will be no more updates the way you know them to be ever again. ;.; I do ask that you leave feedback as to what will happen to the group in the future. Do we change it to a "Above certain rep number" list? Or a "Top 100" list? Any ideas or suggestions? Please post them here. Also, go ahead and grab you signature rep badge if you desire, they are fixed and on the first page with a key for how many points corresponds to the correct picture. Well, looks like that's it. *sniffs* This is Endersmens, signing off on the last update of the Light Green Group for all eternity. *salutes*
  25. Can't suggest OBS enough. It's just good. I'm trying to find a good video editor. Haven't found any good free ones yet. :/
