Use the reroot tool in the hangar to set a part of your missile as the root part; and use "control from here" on a part of your missile in flight. (you need to do both, not just either)
-
Thanks for the advice, relative speed wasn't a problem, but I was using weak parts on the front of the missile. I'm now using a small heat shield as the nose and it really makes a difference. Now it does damage most of the time.
-
Does anyone know how the game decides whether a part gets destroyed or not? I finally got my missile to home pretty well, but it doesn't do any damage most of the time. I'm guessing it's based on the speed and mass of the part that's hitting your target?

Impressive. Did you recover from that loop? -

I managed to save it by adding the non-bugged parts to a subassembly. Handling is all right, even whithout SAS, but it's not super manoeuvrable. craft file here I'm working on a whole series of planes from DCS World, hoping to bring more soon. -
Oh wow, that's some impressive work. I can't imagin how much time that must have taken.

If you could share the craft file, or a picture with center of mass and center of lift and the wheel placement all visible, we could help you out. Center of lift should be slightly behind the center of mass (further back= more stable, but less manoeuvrable). The wheels should also be slightly behind the center of mass (further back=less likely to slam your tail into the ground, but harder to get off the ground). In other news, I managed to save rescue my Viggen putting most of it in a subassembly. I'm also working on an A-10 Warthog (with lots of bells and whistles, like airbrakes, camera pod, and of course the gatling gun). -

I was working on a Saab Viggen replica, but summoned the Kraken by going overboard and adding the lights by clipping a whole bunch of batteries. Notice how it's Untitled, 0T, 0x0x0 meters and has 0 parts according to the game. I guess I'll have to restart from scratch. -

I've struggled with the same problem. The trick is to set the okto core from your missile as root part in the VAB, and then use "control from here" on the okto core in flight. I hope this helps. -
I made a missile with some limited homing capabilities and strapped it on my SU-27 replica. The hardest part was getting the missile to separate without having to reset the target. There's lots of room for improvement, but I'm exited with this small success.

Thanks. Nice flying, I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'm considering making a thread for this plane, but I'm limited by time, video skills, writing skills and flying skills. I feel like that plane flies way too good to be handled by a lousy pilot like myself. -

Oh, OK. Still thanks for sharing, it's very helpful. -

This is awesome. I really like how you show the way the pivot is constructed, very helpful. Not very original, but I made an F-16 https://kerbalx.com/jefzor/F-16 -

Did you try clipping a normal cockpit with an ncs adapter? https://kerbalx.com/jefzor/Clipped-Cockpit -
Spaceplane to orbit with air breathing engines.
Jefzor replied to RavenpawKSP's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
No matter how high you put your apoapsis, there will always be a part of the "orbit" inside the atmosphere at the last point where your engines flame out. So I don't think it is possible, not whithout any trickery at least (munar gravity assist or something like that...? ) I would love to be proven wrong (or being shown some creative tricks). -
Nice work!

I updated the cockpit ans spine of my MIG-21. It looks a lot better now (although I do like the segmented windows of the standard cockpit more than the inline cockpit) -

Tried a MIG-21 replica. The combination nose-cockpit-spine was challenging. It handles much better than I expected. https://kerbalx.com/jefzor/MIG-21 -

I improved the Control Freak for better yaw controll (removed the tailfin and made the rudders balanced so the ship doesn't roll too much vertically). I also added an extra air intake, for better static thrust. https://kerbalx.com/jefzor/Control-Freak -
Give this one a spin. Literally: https://kerbalx.com/jefzor/Control-Freak

Hi, I haven't seen the movie, but you inspired me to make a craft that's (sort of) a replica. Download here: https://kerbalx.com/jefzor/Dove-Lifting-Body It flies surprisingly well, given it's chubby shape, and it's capable of SSTO. (haven't tried returning it safely)

Dogfighter Ultimate Free For All
Jefzor replied to Pds314's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I'm late to the party, but I'll leave my craft anyway, in case OP wakes up. I added 3 guns, spread out vertically, in the hope that spraying helps the odds of hitting anything. https://kerbalx.com/jefzor/Needle (I just got BDA, so it's probably not that good) -
How much more flying time does SSTO consume?
Jefzor replied to Jestersage's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Yes, SSTO's take more playing time to fly into orbit. -

I'm working on "The Control Freak". craft file here It's a super manoeuvrable jet, mainly for performing stunts around the KSC buildings. My philosophy was to save as much weight as I could, and go for a lot of wings with a lot of control surfaces. By no means am I an experienced craft builder, and I don't mean to pat myself on the back, but it's working really, really well. Pro's: Cons: Screenshots:
