What if you were given your country's space program?
Requiem762 replied to Drunkrobot's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well I'd have NASA. Continue development of SLS. Begin asteroid capture mission and insert into lunar orbit. (Have that done about the time orian is up and running) Have crewed spacecraft study captured asteroid. Send rover to moon that has a lander capable of sample return ( 1 up china.) Encourage UK space program to fully develop skylon and buy some to run space tourist operation to make money on side. Spearhead international effort for asteroid defense. Collaberate with Spacex orbital sciences and ULA to conduct manned Martian flyby. Establish temporary moon base to study feasibility of a international moon colony. Send landers to Europa Io and Titan. Send Rover to Pluto to circumnavigate it just for LOLs and science. -

The state of a country brought to chaos by a TV-show.
Requiem762 replied to Manifest's topic in The Lounge
The network will probably milk the controversy as long as they can to keep interest in the show up and I feel they may try to do the same thing next season. I'm in the same boat as you because I don't really care about gimmicky celebrity/talent related shows and in the US there is the occasional controversy but nothing on the scale you have described. What country did this happen to? -
So I have a quick question about "global warming"
Requiem762 replied to vetrox's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Sound theory but the big concern over global warming is the side effects like super storms, rising sea levels leaving Whole islands underwater, and droughts. All of this could displace hundreds of thousands and millions could go hungry from famine. Not to mention that if we don't start building a green infrastructure while we are weening ourselves of oil then we could end up having a few resource wars. Not trying to scare monger or tow some party line just stating potential results. -
Each part is assigned a number that says how much drag it has.

Congress Considering Ending ALL Human Spaceflight
Requiem762 replied to NASAFanboy's topic in Science & Spaceflight
False alarm but I think we should try and get a few former astronauts and NASA employees to run in 2014 just to be safe. -
Cassini vs Curiosity - which is worth saving?

Obama could try to boost his popularity by trying to throw more funding at NASA. -

Cassini vs Curiosity - which is worth saving?
Requiem762 replied to czokletmuss's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Our military would use money on fractional bombardment system or kinetic rod strike array not a nuclear capable moon base. -
Cassini vs Curiosity - which is worth saving?
Requiem762 replied to czokletmuss's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Heck we already pulled out of the anti ballistic missile treaty and militarization of space has already started with the 3 world military powers working on ASAT weapons. -
Space Elevator or Mass Driver/Railgun or something else.
Requiem762 replied to TheGeoninja's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I always thought that the way to go would be something similar to what you had described and was demonstrated in MSG:00. One long cylinder with multiple maglev tracks inside. -
Cassini vs Curiosity - which is worth saving?
Requiem762 replied to czokletmuss's topic in Science & Spaceflight
We'll then let's avoid the whole situation all together and not have nukes in a moon base -
Cassini vs Curiosity - which is worth saving?
Requiem762 replied to czokletmuss's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Weapons of any kind in space could spark a new arms race and Cold War with other countries wanting to "close the nuclear moon bas gap." -

I wouldn't be setting your sights on china if I were you just because the way the governent is there. Spacex is off the ground and is making great strides in reusability. DARPA will only let you make something if it can be weaponized and will be the ones soaking up the money that used to be NASAs budget...
