There's not really any other names to call it in my opinion. I suppose you could call it a trench, but trenches are underwater. I don't really call it anything myself, just labeling it as a strange terrain feature. I do however hope we get some more crazy terrain like this in the future though.
-
Moho's name is not a reference to the terrain anomaly at the pole. That's caused by mapping a rectangular terrainmap onto a spherical object. If you go to the poles of other planets or Moons, you'll notice that others have strange terrain formations, such as the mountains on the Mun's north pole.

Discuss: Constellation Program - Altair Lander
OtherDalfite replied to bigdad84's topic in The Lounge
I don't really get the hate for the Altair, I think it looks pretty slick. Besides, who DOESN'T love a bigger lander? -
Jimmy Neutron got quite a few video games. As did other cartoons.
-
I like it, but I think it could look more Kerbal esque. Chobit's thread was nice and all, but it had little to do with KSP other than rockets being launched. After all, this is the KSP forum.

Renderings of my favourite planets/muns in banner form

There is one in the Addons In Development subforum. Look for the Icarus Solar Shield. It's pretty great. -
This. Multiplayer isn't coming, why do you guys have to keep on pushing? It's annoying beyond belief.

Has anyone made a landing sled..intentionally?
OtherDalfite replied to inigma's topic in KSP1 Discussion
C7's old pack, before he became a developer for KSP, had landing skids, since proper wheels didn't exist. They actually worked really well. He had some wheels, but they were static and were prone to bending over and exploding, resulting in the death of your Kerbals. -
Sorry to burst your bubble OP, but I've seen quite a few of these in space engine. In fact, the vast majority of cold ice worlds I've been too look a lot like this. However, I haven't found any with the organic cracks as prominent as the one you found.
-
That would be illegal. Any distribution of versions beyond 13.3 is pirating the game, even if you bought it, as SQUAD is not distributing it to you.

Grr this game is frustrating the hell out of me
OtherDalfite replied to Bigred2989's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
The best advice I can offer you is to take a break. Find another game and play it for a bit, then when you are bored, come back to KSP. If you're getting crashes a lot, take a look at the Support section of the forum and see if you can get some help with your crashes. -
Yep, that's Minmus. Next time you see it, check your map view and you'll see that Minmus is right where you're looking.

I'm gonna go with the ammonia oceans that Nova implied in a post. That seems the most reasonable. Even if it was close enough to Jool to melt all the ice, it would eventually be ripped apart by it's gravity.

Try driving in docking mode, as the PodTorque functions and the wheel functions are both mapped to WASD. If you change your input mode, you will stop accidentally turning your pod when driving. This can also be extremely helpful when turning, as rovers love to go into an insane roll if they get off the ground slightly.
-
If you get it going fast enough, you might be able to see it if you make a jump off one of the mountains. Chances are that you'll tip from the wheel torque though. If that happens, try enabling power to only the front wheels, then kicking on the last ones as you near the top. Alternatively, you can try and zoom in with the IVA feature, as Monoliths and other artifacts have no Maximum render distance.
-
I wouldn't recommend a low gravity moon for a rover, as they don't last long because of the terrain of such places. I'd recommend Laythe or Vall, they're both really beautiful and can provide for some fantastic views. If landing on Laythe, be VERY careful with your descent, as you can easily land in the liquid ammonia oceans that surround the moon.

The max render distance for spacecraft is 2.5 KM Craft rendering doesn't work off size, only distance from the active spacecraft. Say you had a station orbiting at 2.5 KM on the Mun. If your craft happened to be set on a mountain or plateau that was 500 meters from sea level, it would render, but you may have a tough time seeing it. Also, found the pic! Sorry it's not that great, as it's the only one I have. The model for that jupiter is several thousand meters away.
-
Long ago before (I think) 0.14 you could see things orbiting from the ground. A guy named Tosh made a Jupiter model, and if you could see it come up on the horizon as it orbited Kerbin. Pretty crazy actually, I think I still have a picture of it.

I think Vall would look pretty cool. Maybe do some cracks where the landing legs sit? I think it would help to the atmosphere a bit. Also, Laythe and Eve look great! -
Looks really neat. Very "The DIG"-esque artstyle. My only suggestions would be to make Tylo a bit more tan as it is in the game, because right now it kind of resembles Ike. Maybe give Eeloo a bit more detail.

Need ideas for my Neil Armstrong Autograph frame...
OtherDalfite replied to holyhappiness's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I think if you were able to get a panorama of the moon's surface (though that frame seems a bit short) I think it would look great. Also, congrats on the autograph and patch, I am definitely jealous. -
Not really possible to reliably host images that way. Making an account there is no harder than when you made yours here. It's also completely free, so no worries of paying anything.
