(Turn-based) Kerbal Multiplayer Collaboration
Starwhip replied to Thunderous Echo's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Though it's ugly, this one can make it to Ike and back, as well as land on Duna, with hundreds of m/s of delta-V left. (After a refuel in-orbit) Do we want a pretty lander or something simple like this one? EDIT: Yep, it's going to be a pretty lander. That's what I'm sticking up there! 47 parts. EDIT2: Wait, chutes. I'll put three, and it'll be 50 parts exactly. -

Duna Lander V1 complete. I'm working on one which can go to both Duna and Ike with a simple in-orbit refuel. -

Ye gods... This thing could go to JOOL and back! -

Oh, I see now. Well, I'll start making a lander then! -

*Salutes* Starwhip reporting for duty! I'll get us wherever we need to go, don't you worry! That Duna vessel looks a little off... I've got an idea for a better attachment then those three measly engines. It involves triple-docking, though. Should be fun! What else needs to be attached? If I put up a module with a bunch of empty space, I'll feel kinda useless.... I could put some science, power generation, fuel, crew space, you name it! -
Zack: 100+ Ton Missile Tank/Rover(wip)

If you had girders between your wheels, it should reduce the twisting while allowing the wheels to translate up and down... Then again, I haven't seen your suspension mechanism... -
whats your opinions on autism/anyone else here have it?
Starwhip replied to toric5's topic in The Lounge
Not until you said it, but new, relevant content has been added, so it wasn't really a necro. -
Mac Kerman. EDIT: Oh, this ones' better! Kerburry Kerman.

whats your opinions on autism/anyone else here have it?
Starwhip replied to toric5's topic in The Lounge
I believe those who mistreat others simply because they are autistic or have some other mental condition have a mental condition of their own. I know many people with autism and/or ADHD/ADD; some of them are perfectly normal people, some of them are societal outcasts. And it is not only those with mental conditions who may be thrown out by society. There are always going to be those who despise individuals who stand out, who are different, who are better than them. The trick is learning to deal with them and move on. If you can behave in society in such a way that you respect others and others can respect you, that is all that matters to me; whether you have a mental deficiency or not is merely superficial. -
If you hit CAPSLOCK while in flight, you enter "fine controls" mode, where RCS and SAS controls are scaled back. RCS will no longer apply full thrust, and SAS is dampened. I don't know of any mod that allows you to adjust the thrust of RCS, however.

Why is Opportunity lasting so long?
Starwhip replied to Frida Space's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Not a fan, exactly, more like a blower with a vent. Or you could gently vibrate your solar panels, while angling them slightly with a servo or by design, in hopes to dislodge some of the dust. -
Oh, I see. Forgive me? The COMPLETE KSP Blender Tutorial! I'd suggest going until it says "Export as .collada" and instead use the .mu blender exporter. Try putting that and whatever texture you have into your mod's directory, along with a .cfg. EDIT: Oh, wait. OP's asking why the node_collider is visible. Did you set it's alpha value to zero? (If you don't know what I'm talking about, probably not.)

How do people fly unmanned drones to shoot at?
Starwhip replied to panzer1b's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You didn't just... :/ Gah! Links to the videos in question? -
It is not. Rep seems to be carelessly flung about here in places where it shouldn't be carelessly flung about. Swing the Reputation sticks in the Addon Releases section, or Support, or Suggestions, and not at those who ask for rep.

[11/26/15 Update] Say Hello to the Light-Green Group!
Starwhip replied to Endersmens's topic in Kerbal Network
But then his user title wouldn't perfectly coincide with his rep bars! -
If KSP 1.0 has resources will that lower your costs in career mode?
Starwhip replied to Valley's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My costs are low anyway, because I use SSTO's to do nearly everything. Refueling in space will open up new capabilities for spacecraft. Grand Tour ships in Stock KSP, for example, no longer need to be absolutely massive. Single Stage to Laythe ships can be much smaller, only needing enough delta-v to do the longest leg of the trip instead of the WHOLE trip. So yes, my costs will be lower. -
A slightly belated welcome to you! Modding is double-sided. It can be extremely easy (ModuleMangager configs, for example) or very, very hard (C# scripts, things like Ferram Aerospace Research). My own mod (the Modular Booster System, click on picture in my signature) is stuck because I cannot for the life of me figure out C# for KSP. It's a very different programming language, and I've been programming Python for over four years, fiddling with Assembly language, using Arduino and Parallax Basic microcontrollers for about the same time, and C++ for two years. The above may or may not be because I have yet to see a C# script written for KSP. I learn by reverse-engineering, even in programming. If you simply want to make parts for KSP, and not introduce any new mechanics, modding is very simple. You only need to have a bit of programming know-how, (Reading the .cfg's of existing parts will really help you!) and some 3D-modelling experience, which is fairly simple to pick up. Texturing is another level entirely, but isn't all that hard to learn either. My advice? Just keep at it. If it doesn't work, keep going until it does. Start over. Try it again. Tweak this thing, delete that one, add in something new, until you're satisfied with your work.

Grabber could connect two at once
Starwhip replied to boolybooly's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I do believe that you cannot claw onto your own ship, because of the way KSP's tree system works with .craft and .sfs persistence versions of .craft files. Though docking ports work like that.... The Klaw is extremely buggy, and I think that's what your problem is. -
Uh.. th.. the.. wh.. no... how.. ah... eyh... gha.. WHAT?!?

We *Need* to stop climate change
Starwhip replied to TheCanadianVendingMachine's topic in The Lounge
I went to a community thing on Miami Beach called "Filmgate Interactive" about a month ago. This year was all about rising sea levels and what needs to/should be done. The people who organized the event brought in a meteorologist to "explain" what was happening. He showed us a bunch of slides about what Miami would look like in ten, fifteen, thirty, 100 years. It was bad. He told us that "together, we can find a solution to stop the sea level rise". And then he said that the Antarctic Ice Sheet was melting and we cannot stop it, and it would put about twelve feet of water into all the oceans worldwide. So, first we need to make sure these government people have it straight in their heads that we can't stop it, and to stop telling people we can so that they don't feel like they don't have to take responsibility for their actions!!! -
I'm afraid that for KSP, you cannot use the Source film maker because it's not powered by that engine. However, one can use Blender for sure to import .craft files (Check out the KSPBlender link in my signature). And here's PeterEdwardson's amazing Kerbal model for Blender cycles. Rigged Kerbal 3D Model

Why is Opportunity lasting so long?
Starwhip replied to Frida Space's topic in Science & Spaceflight
You know a great solution to this problem? A goddamn CPU fan mounted near the front of the solar panels. Seriously, NASA, is it so hard to get rid of a little dust? -
I'm not a tool, dammit. I need someone to sal_vage my crashed ship.
