I think the dots are connecting now... Either the server configs got messed up and the gate distance is too big, or... The galaxy jumpship disappeared the other day, the new guy stepped in, the warpgate... I'd assume the new person is doing this. (Or someone else destroyed the spawn gate)

Which one looks nicer; new Mk1 cockpit or old one
Starwhip replied to Falkenherz's topic in KSP1 Discussion
This is turning into the debate for the Round-8 Toroidal Fuel Tank again. :/ I vote that we keep both parts. That appeased the crowds last time. -
Well now we have the handy KSPBlender plugin for craft importing. Still want a KSC, though. Could do some great renders.

What brand of GPU do you use to play KSP?
Starwhip replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm using the best kind of graphics card: one that doesn't exist. *sigh* When I build my desktop I'll get a good one, I swear. -

Pfft, that's not a flying car. That's a jet engine with a car strapped to it. Close enough. -

Oh, definitely. Couldn't agree more. But it takes practice to put all of this absorbed...-ness(?) into words on the page. -
Fjord Model B Cargo Truck [Stunt Car in Disguise]
Starwhip replied to Starwhip's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Step One - Attach Communotron 16 to craft near desired point. Step Two - Hit "3" to activate rotation gizmo, then rotate the antenna until it's in the right orientation (Usually 180* or more). The knobbly bit is the base of this antenna. Step Three - Without deselecting the antenna, hit "2" to activate slide gizmo, then position it in the right spot. Step Four - Profit. -
Fjord Motor Co Model B - Cargo Truck Rough. Tough. Buff. Stuf- (Okay, Jeb, that's enough) [sorry!] Fleshed out interior. It even has cupholders! Engine block meant to give some serious raw power. The Model B is incredibly useful for carrying cargo. It's got two rear hitches (attachment nodes) and one in the front. If you're Jeb, this is what you'll use "payload capacity" for. The front node can be used for the crew deployment mechanism. But it can be used for other stuff too. Though convenient, the Model B's engineers designed the car to secretly be an incredibly competent stunt vehicle. Jumping off the launchpad, crawlerway jumps, rough landings, it's all doable in the Model B. (GIF may be sped up a bit) Amusingly, at 131 beats per minute, this GIF loops for quarter notes. So, if you're listening to Party Rock Anthem (or a parody soundtrack of it), you'll have it set the beat. It also comes with ladders for easy boarding/disembarking. Grab a key and take it for a test drive! DOWNLOAD EDIT: I wasn't kidding about the .gif. Thumbs up to ghostbuzzer7 for confirming it.

totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread
Starwhip replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Started optimizing a bit, adding a body, various tweaks. I'm aiming for under 150 parts. (It's 110 or so right now I think) -

Fjord Motor Company "Excelsior" Sports Rover [Low CG!]
Starwhip replied to Starwhip's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Front splitter? You mean the one it's already got? Just tested the NUK without the jet. Wow. It's still a good craft. (Less rock-solid turning but still hard to flip) I'll be working on a new one today. -
A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
Starwhip replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
The way I've described Jeb, he's not crazy. He's more of a thrill-seeker, brave, cool-headed, though with small blips of insecurity with newer things. This excerpt sets him (and Gene, to some extent) up in my story. -
A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
Starwhip replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
Very good tips for aspiring writers in this forum. Something I might add is that it takes a lot of time and effort for most people to develop a good writing style. A good writing style, in my book (heh, heh, ), is defined by consistency above all, as well as the use of proper structure, and a unique twist that becomes apparent with practice in writing. One day, one day I will come back to you... http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/112822-MechJeb-A-KSP-Short-Story-(Chapter-V) -
Fjord Motor Company "Excelsior" Sports Rover [Low CG!]
Starwhip replied to Starwhip's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Huh... that's interesting. I'm curious to see how the lighter version handles in comparison to the jet-laden version. Obviously the first would accelerate faster but it would also have less normal force and thus less traction leading to a lower top speed, if KSP works that way. (It seems to based on what you posted above) Perhaps a new craft with this philosophy in mind is due? -
How Close are YOU to Your Next Reputation Rank?
Starwhip replied to michaelsteele3's topic in Kerbal Network
The behavior should certainly be reconciled. The thread wasn't designed for that purpose, and it's not in the spirit of the rules. On topic, I can't get any more rep bars. I think there's another reputation rank but I don't know what the numbers are for it. So, a lot. -
Yer nuts. Unless you've got RCS thrusters for rendezvous...
-
Hey there Rareden, welcome back! I've been wondering how you made the picture (or several, it's hard to remember with all your great work) with the KSC in it. Did you model them? Enhance a screenshot? Download them from somewhere? Do it in Unity? Rip them?

Grasshopper Attack VTOL (Incredibly Agile!)
Starwhip replied to Starwhip's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
More like a "chuunk-chuunk-chuunk" Kind of amusingly, I made a cockpit intending to make an entirely new version based off of the old one, then had the idea to detach the body of the old one, save as a subassembly, then attach it to the new cockpit. It fit perfectly. The intake lined up, the two structural pylons fit, it was great. I did change up the configuration of the VTOL jets to make them lower, they were up high at first. It could have come out looking like this: But I decided to sacrifice aesthetics for performance. -
The Elcano Challenge : Ground-based circumnavigation
Starwhip replied to Fengist's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Is anyone else having problems with their craft slowly becoming laggier and laggier? I'm at about 40 degrees north right now, the craft has about two days on the mission timer. It's infuriating, I can hardly progress, because the lowered framerate is eating into my reaction time to correct for terrain deviations and other mishaps. -
I say that without resorting to weird stuff like wing/structural parts for fuselage, that's as close to the shape of the real thing as you can get with stock parts. EDIT: And keep it in Kerbal scale.

Normally, heatshields attach in this super ugly fashion: But if you "force" the stage up a bit by raising it: Read about this and had to try it for myself.
