  1. Submitted this to Reddit but this is probably a better place, because Official KSP forums > Unofficial Subreddit. How to make LAS shrouds in KSP
  2. Why KSP isn't ready for 1.0 1.0 means the game is polished enough to be reviewed and critiqued. KSP is still very good, but no where near to being polished. Confetti fairings look bad and show lack of full effort Still no stackable, segmented SRB's No 1.875 meter parts - 1.25 meter parts look silly on 3.75 meter parts SRB's still can't gimbal, which is both unrealistic and unbalanced gameplay wise Visuals not the best they could be - still no clouds, cities, other signs of a polished game Engine effects are still the same they have been - boring, blue flames. Check HotRockets for good examples New buildings in career mode aren't up to par with bac9's work Admin building doesn't fit well Looking at water creates lag Career mode is grindy https://youtu.be/pX_QJuZoW70?list=PLxqkPVJ0Ejy6thxmjWAUGCP3Ubdfh1Wa6&t=956 This is ridiculous - no fairings in real life separate into confetti pieces for obvious reasons. What is not obvious is why Squad gave us these weirdly shaped fairings... Just look at the poll. The results speak for themselves.

What is not obvious is why Squad gave us these weirdly shaped fairings... KSP isn't ready for 1.0. It's still a baby in stage of development IMO. Still no stackable SRB's, 1.875 meter parts, no clouds, no improved engine effects, fairings are wrong. Not ready yet.
  4. DANG-IT! Why did I not see this thread? I always love getting free games (who doesn't?) and I feel so annoyed. Oh well, thanks for notifying those who saw. Looks like a cool game, too. I had a busy weekend and don't usually hang around the Science Labs.
  5. If Squad is re-purposing parts for others just because they don't want to make new ones, that's silly. Just make a new part. Making one part, a fuel tank, is done by modders all the time and should be just as fast for someone at Squad to make.
  6. ULA's Vulcan Rocket ULA has announced a new rocket called Vulcan. It has two Blue Origin BE-4 engines on the first stage, and will begin with a Centaur upper stage and move on to the ACES upper stage. The first stage engines will separate from the first stage, decelerate in the atmosphere by some system, and be retrieved mid-air. The design no longer uses the Russian built and designed RD-180 engine. Live stream is over but was presented here: http://www.ulalaunch.com/webcast.aspx Some things that were mentioned: More powerful solid rocket boosters Based off of both Atlas and Delta heritage Twin BE-4 engines using methane / liquefied natural gas (I think they mentioned methane in the livestream) Initially uses Centaur, then switches to ACES Similar fairings, but different No direct cost given, but I think Tony Bruno mentioned that a general rule for rockets is 1 billion USD for new engine, 1 billion USD for new rocket on top. Not sure if I heard correctly but I think that's it. Please discuss below if you would like! 7. Looks great, Zucal! The SuperDraco engine pods look really smooth and well integrated into the capsule shape. That was always hard for me to replicate when I tried making Dragon 2 a while back.
  8. You should send up two sharks together, that way there will be a left shark. Well, there's no direction in space though, only relative direction. Great work!
  9. Perfect! I love how clean they look. IRL the SLS core stage is really, really long but in KSP we don't have big enough boosters to accommodate for this. Your's look spot on and really good. I gave rep to you. One note: the SLS Block 2 you made is technically a Block 1B. Block 1B is SLS with EUS and five segment SRB's. Which is good anyway because they won't do a Block 2 with crew anyways, just Block 1B. Oh, and the Orion Mk2 looks great! Is it a real design or a creative kerbalized design?
  10. I suggested Tombaugh because he discovered it. I also submitted "Brown" in honor of Mike Brown, the astronomer who discovered Eris and many other TNO's, but then I saw it said they can't name after living beings. Oh well.
  11. Hey, I found a PDF that might be helpful later for Mir. It has some good information on the dimensions of the modules. http://ston.jsc.nasa.gov/collections/TRS/_techrep/RP1357.pdf I have like 30 GB of PDF's saved on my computers. Maybe more.
  12. Looking forward to trying this. Always been waiting for something this realistic in KSP.
  13. Here's some that I recommend: Wayfare's Crafts - Low part and simple designs that are easy for newcomers to understand, but function beautifully and look very good as well. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/43355 Scarecrow88 - Great beginner and advanced craft, low part count design and well thought out. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/108512 http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/109757 Reistlyn's Crafts - Aesthetically pleasing designs that have scientific utilities, too! Great designs. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/109966 inigma's Space Shuttle - Good representation of the Space Shuttle that looks and performs well. Many payloads to choose from and gives newcomers an opportunity to see spaceplane design. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/108219 Kosmo-not's Crafts - Good, creative designs with innovative techniques. Good for beginners as well. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/31222 http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/38561 GusTurbo's Crafts - Gus knows how to manipulate parts to get aesthetically pleasing results. Great craft! http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/82448 Giggleplex777's Crafts - Lots of good stuff. Sadly, a lot of it is broken with the new spaceplane parts but once he fixes them, it will be spectacular! http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/17752 Majorjim's Crafts - Anything on his page will be spectacular, but the Constellation pack is a good example of modular mission design and the Short Brother's VTOL shows how to balance aircraft quite well. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/81526 Rune's Crafts - Anything from Rune will also be spectacular, and he has so many great craft, but I especially like his modular base pack. Great example of module base design and how to transport base parts. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/108081 http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/members/54000 Temstar's Crafts - Well thought out, low part count designs of creative design. Quite spectacular. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/50685 http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/33381 http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/28133 http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/28409 http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24990 http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24775
  14. That's really awesome. I wasn't expecting you to go so far as to create extendable nozzles! That's really taking the extra step. A few questions: 1. How do you attach the RS-25 cluster to the core stage? I was attaching it then using the offset tool to align it, but are you doing it differently? 2. Not relating to your mod, but which version of RVE are you using? I looked at pingopete's GitHub and saw he has a 0.90 repository, but he also has the older ones that I noticed are larger in size. A bit confused on this. And which version of EVE are you using: released versions or overhaul? And lastly, are you using RVE with the current version of RSS, or an older version? Cheers!
  15. Well, more precisely, spacetime was created. I've also learned that the universe is flat. That's quite interesting. I think what it is is that the bounds of space and the universe are infinite, but the amount of matter is finite. Or at least it should be like that.
  16. Research shows that GMO's aren't actually bad for you. I do think the implications of their impact on the environment might be dangerous, though, but as long as it's moderated and planned out it should be fine.
  17. I find that the design in RSS is also quite different. It's more of an iterative process rather than putting fuel tanks of the same type together. In RSS with Realism Overhaul, you must choose what fuels to use based on size limitations, boil off rates, efficiency, and other factors. I have two separate installs to enjoy both simultaneously because I don't think that neither RSS nor stock should replace each other. Why not both? It's also fun with Realism Overhaul because you can choose from real life engines with real stats, and you feel like you're a real engineer, sort of. The burn to orbits are also different because instead of reaching an apoapsis and circularizing from there, most real life launches are done all at once with the engines burning the whole time, because engine restarts can get complicated.
  18. I do that too! Didn't know others did as well. One of my "requirements" when designing lifters is to make sure they are over the ocean when it's time to jettison boosters (if the rockets have them). I do hope that rocket launches in overhauled aerodynamics are at least slightly more realistic. At least make a smooth gravity turn better than an instant go straight, turn 90 turn as done often in stock KSP. Playing RSS is really quite fun because most rockets turn at around 1 km, and that's with a bigger Earth as well.
  19. Hey man, your flags look really nice. Oddly enough I had discovered your Imgur albums yesterday and downloaded them. And the next day it's a mod on the forums! Question: did you make these with a vector editing program? Also, would you be able to make the Japanese flag, but without the rising sun rays? Basically the sun there with the ray on the bottom, left and right, and the rocketship on top. Cheers!
  20. maccollo, here's a PDF for help with the Exploration Upper Stage. I love me some PDF files so here's one that pretty much gives the dimensions for the EUS. http://www.spacepropulsion.org/uploads/2/5/3/9/25392309/spaceaccess2014-25.pdf You're doing a great job so far!
  21. We need 1.875 meter stackable SRB parts. 1.25 meter SRB's look plain silly on 3.75 meter parts.
  22. Did you read the PDF files? You should  they're quite interesting! I don't think NASA has decided who will build the advanced boosters yet, but I think it might be later this year. ATK (now Orbital ATK) is a contender with its "Dark Knights" boosters, but there's also Dynetics/Aerojet Rocketdyne, Northrop Grumman, and Aerojet Rocketdyne's designs. Cheers
  23. Darth Lazarus, that looks fantastic! Your fairing panels are very creative. Although I have to "correct" something again. I say this from an accuracy standpoint and not as a quality of work standpoint. The Exploration Upper stage has an upper LH2 tank and a lower LO2 tank. It's not a standard cylinder anymore. I believe you saw this picture, which is from the old J-2X design: http://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/sls_dac_2_130t_breakaway0.jpg Here's some examples of the current design, and some documents that are a bit hard to find and contain some good information: http://www.boeing.com/assets/pdf/defense-space/space/sls/docs/sls_mission_booklet_jan_2014.pdf http://www.nal-jsc.org/sites/nal-jsc.org/files/nal_october_2014_human_spaceflight_update.pdf http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Z85.jpg Cheers
  24. The advanced boosters pictured there are generic designs used for NASA SLS concepts, probably because they don't want to favor one company and show their design or something. The actual advanced boosters are mostly likely to be Dynetics/Aerojet Rocketdyne's Pyrios with the dual F-1B engines, Orbital ATK's Dark Knights SRB, or Aerojet Rocketdyne's liquid rocket boosters. There's also a Northrop Grumman design and probably a few others. Here's some PDF's with concept images of some various advanced booster concepts. http://www.asee.org/Crumbly_ASEE_Final.pdf http://smdsymposium.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Crumbly-presentation.pdf
