KSP Interstellar Extended Support Thread
ss8913 replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
@FreeThinkerI just updated to KSP 1.23.x via CKAN, started KSP 1.7.3, and KSP is complaining that the installed KSPIE version is for 1.6.1 ... I can install the right one manually, but wanted to let you know in case there's a metadata issue on spacedock or something. -
[1.8.x] B9 Aerospace | Release 6.6.0 (Feb 5 2020)
ss8913 replied to blowfish's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
the overheating may be due to a compatibility issue with KSPIE(?) ... basically they work fine in atmo, above 70km though in closed cycle mode they overheat almost instantly at more than 10% throttle.. like *instantaneously* overheat. I changed the heat production factor in their part configs from 240 down to 150 and that lets me get 50-60% throttle before they explode... but it's weird that even in closed cycle mode they're fine as long as you're inside an atmosphere. Kerbin's anyway, haven't tried it on Laythe. If I had to guess on the cameras I'd say something like the cameraTransform= setting might be incompatible between JSI and B9; I can't find where the B9ForwardCamera/etc are defined in B9 however.. gonna have to pull out cygwin or something and do a "find . | xargs grep cam" or something since windows search is terrible...- 641 replies

[1.8.x] B9 Aerospace | Release 6.6.0 (Feb 5 2020)
ss8913 replied to blowfish's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I couldn't find anything relevant by searching this topic but.. is anyone else having a problem of: 1. sabre engines generate ridiculous amounts of heat in a vacuum, but are fine in atmosphere? 2. all the cockpit augmented reality displays are flipped vertically either of those? or just me for both? Not having problems like that with other engines or with "normal" RPM camera displays and I have used B9 for a long time and these both seem new, although I couldn't tell you what KSP version I *first* saw them in. Using 1.7.3 now.- 641 replies

@MOARdV I figured out the tweakscale patch. In your 'patches' directory in the mod's folder, make a file like AviationLightsTweakScale.cfg, with the following contents. This will allow precision scaling to any % value of the original size of the part. Great for larger space stations! It causes no issues with functionality or compatibility that I have yet found. The below is MM code so if people do not have tweakscale installed it should just get ignored. @PART[light_aviation] // aviation light { %MODULE[TweakScale] { type = free } }

so @FreeThinker the new beta *helps* with the thermal issues, at least on some craft... but it's still a bit odd, i'm still getting two sets of temperature limits in the right click, and in some cases, still on fire. Have a look at this screenshot: https://imgur.com/sLiOmLZ -
I often make very large craft, and would like to tweakscale these things.. i figured it out once on my own and made an MM patch to do this, but I can't remember how I did it, and I lost my computer in a house fire, so I have no frame of reference. would it maybe make sense to add tweakscale support by default? If not, can someone please tell me the correct way to write an MM patch for this because I can't seem to remember it now thanks

[1.8.1 - 1.12.2] KSP Interstellar Extended 1.29.5 Release Thread
ss8913 replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
so .. for the past 6 months or so, minus the 1.5 months I took off of KSP due to a massive house fire... ironically that I'm asking about a heat question, right? but anyway... every time I use the KSPIE radiator parts, on literally any craft.. the wasteheat is not a problem, but stock heating *is*. after achieving orbit literally every KSPIE radiator on the craft is *on fire hot* and the stock part/core heat in the right click menu is at or above max.. yet the KSPIE temp indicators are not, and the waste heat is at or near zero. I've been using this mod for years; this has only been a problem for 6 months or so, was fine before then.. I have no idea what's going on, it's not functionally broken but.. *on fire*. If i stick to stock radiators, they work.. better, but for some reason when the craft hits orbit they go full white-hot, even though the numbers are well within tolerances. I'm going crazy here trying to figure out what's going on; I have a lot of other mods, including heat control (recommended in ckan by KSPIE) installed; heat control seems to only be parts, though, it has no DLL of its own. What can I do to help figure this out // is it even a problem ? not sure if @FreeThinker can do much about it if it's only cosmetic, but.. would like to have it work like it did before? without all of the fire? -
[1.8.x] B9 Aerospace | Release 6.6.0 (Feb 5 2020)
ss8913 replied to blowfish's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Using this in 1.7.9; only problem I'm having is that while the SABRE engines work great in atmosphere, even the slightest throttle in vaccuum causes them to overheat in microseconds and instantly explode. If I use MJ2's "prevent engine overheats' then it will run at 5-10% throttle which isn't super useful. All other similar engines ie RAPIER, CLEAVER, etc, work fine.. just the sabres (both S and M) are doing this. Anyone also having this issue?- 641 replies

if you right click a radiator, it shows a part temp, core temp, then another part temp, another core temp, and then *also* wasteheat. that's the weird thing is they have two different max limits set and the lower limit drives the visual effect, the higher limit drives the actual effect.. i'll send a screenshot soon. As for the reactors yeah I know how they work, and they are working.. was just telling you which reactors I was using in case you wanted to try to replicate it. The last issue with the "craft doesn't get hot if you don't put any radiators on it" is still weird though. put radiators on the same craft and they get super super hot.. where's the heat going on the version with no radiators? -

@FreeThinker versions and ckan aside, any ideas on the heat issues? -

spacedock has 1.21.11.4, ckan is still showing .0 - maybe that's it, ckan just hasn't picked it up from spacedock yet. I'll wait a bit and see if it resolves, else I'll manually install .4 -

@FreeThinker first off I want to say thank you for your continued and timely maintenance of this mod - I've been using it since even before you took it over and it's one of my must-haves and likely always will be That said I'm seeing some odd heat behavior (still): 1. stock heat limits on radiators and KSPIE heat limits on radiators are not in sync - stock limits are much lower. while parts don't explode until the KSPIE limits are hit, the fire effect in space is a little disconcerting and it always looks like my ships are burning to death after charging to orbit, even though they are not. 2. things don't cool down properly for some reason, unless in timewarp... ie the plane will be at the stock-heat-max (or higher) and will show a +0K delta on the critical temperature mod gauge... until you accelerate time past 10x and then it'll cool off. very odd. 3. accidentally launched a spaceplane last night with 4x 1.25m positron reactors and 4x thermal ramjet nozzles.. and I forgot to put ANY radiators on. Wasn't using a generator, to save weight, and the mk2 cargo bay acts as somewhat of a radiator but.. there was *no heat*. adding radiators makes them heat up badly and show the fire effects described above, but without any radiators there didn't seem to be a heat problem at all, and that was just .. weird. let me know what if any additional info would be helpful here. I pretty much have based my entire space program around the positron+thermal ramjet/turbojet, and the plasma beam core antimatter + charged particle gen + plasma nozzle, and of course kerbsteins and alcubierre drives.. haven't used the lower level reactors in a while, so not sure if this problem extends to those. ADDITIONAL: the ckan metadata appears to be wrong for 1.21.11.0 - it's showing as compatible with 1.3.1 not 1.7.2 ... and when I start KSP I get another message saying that this is in fact the version for 1.3.1 not 1.7.2.. never had this issue before. not going to load any saves for now though -

ok so @FreeThinker probably ignore my last post; one thing that *is* a legit problem is that there's two sets of temperature limits on the radiators. one seems to be coming from KSPIE and one from stock; this is new within the last few versions of the mod (and KSP) but the stock limits are much lower, and it makes all the radiators literally catch on fire until they cool off.. they don't explode and fail until they hit the mod's temp limits, but the visual effects and such appear when they hit the 'other' limits which are in most cases less than half of the 'real' limits.. is this a known issue? I can't imagine that anyone else *nasn't* noticed this, unless I'm doing something supremely weird here... basically just using the same designs I've been using with KSPIE for years though. What info if any do you need from me/what do you need to see? -

I don't recall installing 'retrofuture' engines.. let me try removing that. -
[1.12.x] MemGraph Updated with Stutter Reduction

the settings.cfg file in the Gamedata/MemGraph/Plugins/ dir lets you remap the keys. -
[1.8.1-1] [PLEASE FORK ME] Kopernicus & KittopiaTech
ss8913 replied to Thomas P.'s topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
the kopernicus warning on the start page could actually stand to be in a bigger font. I play on a 4K display and I've missed that many times because on 4K it's... quite small but now I know to look for it, so I haven't destroyed a save due to this in quite a while -
[Minimum KSP version - 1.11] Kerbal Attachment System (KAS) v1.12
ss8913 replied to IgorZ's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
so am I hearing right, KAS isn't working right in 1.7.1 currently? i was trying real hard to connect an RT-1 to one of those connector ports (the new one) and it just.. would not. so... just wait for the update, then? -
totm may 2024 [1.12.x] - Modular Kolonization System (MKS)
ss8913 replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I'm having some issues with some of the USI parts causing some.. weird VAB/SPH behavior in 1.7.1 such as the Karibou rovers.. is this.. expected? since the mod isn't official yet for 1.7.1? symptoms are the transparent pod not working right and sometimes it won't *unload* the ship when you leave/return to the VAB/SPH.. very odd and only with these parts. basically works once you've launched it though. -
also, looks like domes & stuff are coming "soon" to USI, so that might just.. supercede this.
-
So I [just] noticed. What tools would be needed to do as you describe? I can perhaps do it, but I'm not sure how to manipulate the .mu model files
-
hm, maybe gimp/photoshop to convert the textures to a compatible format is the answer, then... nobody maintains this anymore? at all?
-
has anyone tried just pulling out VS and recompling it against 1.7.x ? the error I'm seeing in the logs seems to be texture-format related, though, so that may not work...

KSP Interstellar Extended Support Thread

I'm using HTP. Haven't tried with anything else, only HTP (Hydrogen Peroxide). Oh, also atmosphere, on the ground to 20k or so. I've also noticed that the radiator part temps on the graphene radiators, their max temps don't sync up with the stock skin/internal temps so things like critical temp gauge and the heat animations themselves start showing "omg this is hot, flames are shooting out" when the parts aren't that close to their "real" max temps defined by the mod... -

@FreeThinker I've noticed that post-1.7 and with the KSPIE version apropos for that version - 1.21.5.4, the thermal ramjet/thermal turbojet behave a bit differently.. i'm using positron reactors to power them. observed differences: 1. specific impulse is a lot higher; same design that netted me ~15k dV now nets me ~40k 2. thrust is far lower; what used to get me 7G of acceleration now gets me around 2G. VTOL with thermal turbojets now requires much larger engines, or more of them, to get off the ground 3. heat generation is significantly higher but not unmanageably so which of these were intentional? or were they all intentional and this is more in line with how it's "supposed" to be? This is all in a new sandbox game with obviously everything unlocked. -
workaround for the editor bug - it manifests for me in that when I click the button on the top to assign action groups, I lose the ability to go back to build mode, or crew, etc. so what works is: 1. push the AGX toolbar button when the problem occurs. 2. this restores the ability to go back to build, and also opens up the stock action groups window, but ignore that 3. when you later go back to action groups, only the stock one will show up; push the AGX button again to get AGX back. It's a little cumbersome but it does work, until the underlying issue is fixed.
