  1. I'm positive this doesn't meet the challenge criteria, but here's some good fun that you can have involving wings. A few notes: Making a really long chain of Cubic Octagonal struts really boosts this thing's performance. At the lengths I'm using right now, the craft can get to Duna. While I used launch stability enhancers in the video (with comical results), any flat platform seems to work. This works with control surfaces on or off, see picture. I'm not entirely sure if this counts as infinigliding, as such. Also, many struts! Try it out for yourself. Even if it doesn't meet the challenge guidelines, it's still a very fun little bug to play with.
  2. You’re very welcome! Glad to be inspiring people as famous as the BriXman himself. I’m not out of ideas yet (still have two unfulfilled requests), but feel free to send in pictures at will! Just note that it will take a little while for me to get them done. I take my time on my artwork, and I think that the artwork is a bit better for it. Oh! I noticed something the other day. Despite the fact that this page now has over 7,000 views (and I’m still not sure why), no one apparently noticed this little grammatical issue on the original post: I’m not entirely sure what I would have to do in stock KSP to deorbit Jool. A small transfer stage certainly wouldn’t be able to do it. (heh) Getting started on SelectHalfling0’s artwork now, will post progress Soon™.
  3. Please don't get any better at KSP. I'm not entirely sure if my mind can handle a sub-19-second run. Wonderful job, I'm adding this to the leaderboard. I think that the Kerbal Cup is all but won, though the race is still on for the most distinctions! I'm scoring that as follows (let me know if there's a better way to do this): If there are seven people who are competing (as there are now), fastest time gets 7 points, second-fastest gets six, etc. Each "distinction" earns you one point, except for the Kerbal Ace distinction, which gives you one point per Kerbal. In that case: Aphobius: 8 points GusTurbo: 7 points Me: 7 points Andrew Hansen: 7 points Mareczex333: 8 points Avera9eJoe: 5 points Razgriz86er: 3 points This will NOT replace the Kerbal Cup's original scoring system, it's just a different way of scoring things that I think better shows the quality of some of these entries in more ways than one. Should I put this scoring method up on the OP along with the original method, or should I not include it at all?
  4. Bumping this. Thanks so much for completing part three of this video, I really loved it. (And sorry for not posting earlier! I was kind of busy IRL.) For those of you who haven't seen this series of videos, you should. Please. Do it now. I'll wait.
  5. 2/10 I've seen you before, I think. Or rather, I've seen your signature.
  6. I've updated the leaderboard, sorry for the delay. Also, amazing job at flying through that small gap! I think that there was a challenge for this a while back, but I can't seem to find it. I used a keyboard, which is pretty evident in my run. I think I could do it faster with a joystick, but I'm not sure if I even could ban using a joystick. Here's an "official" little Three Bridges Cup image that will go at the top of the thread. U liek?
  7. I think that one of the really great things about this craft is the fact that it's 100% stock. The only other dragon on the forum, The Destroyer's Toothless, requires a load of mods to function. This isn't really a bad thing, but I much prefer all-stock builds. In this case, at least, they seem to require a little more skill to pull off, and I like showing off whatever I can do well in KSP (which is not a lot, actually). Since making the Dragon, I've been experimenting around with other animal-shaped designs: ...oh, and I'll probably revise the images on the first page to include the (somewhat-better-looking) completed dragon.
  8. No one knows. It's served in a bowl approximately three kilometers in diameter and a kilometer and a half high. No one's ever climbed up the bowl to see what's in there. My guess is, it's mostly hydrazine.
  9. Avera9eJoe, I'm done with your drawing! Here ya go. Here's some backstory on this one. I rushed at the end a little bit, but this is still one of my better drawings, IMO. Oh, by the way: Good catch. The Kerbal could still keep a grasp on the wrench though, even if he likely couldn't actually do any mechanical work with it, so I'm not going to redo it. Thanks for finding that though.
  10. I'm going to plug my own video. (Sorry, but I think it's reasonably cool and definitely appropriate for KSP.) Play whilst in space. Also, I'm really happy that "Music is Math" was added to this playlist. BoC was one of the inspirations for my song.
  11. These entries are absolutely amazing. Remember when I said that the theoretical minimum run time was ~30 seconds? That's been shattered. I am accepting Aphobius's 0:27 attempt as well as GusTurbo's 0:29 attempt. Exceptional piloting skills, both of you! I still hold the record for doing this the fastest with a manned craft, so I still have some hope... It seems as if my recommended bridge order is, indeed, the fastest. I'm not entirely sure if there's any faster way to do it (currently beginning trials in which the bridges are flown through from largest to smallest, may save some time at the beginning of the run) but I'm pretty confident that my original idea was a little faster. That's one of the parts I like about this challenge: It takes a whole load of experimentation to figure out what to do. Also, Aphobius, I'm pretty sure that GusTurbo didn't intend to cheat, nor did he really break any rules. Please don't call people out on account of circumstances that they may not have realized were affecting gameplay. This thread has been very well-behaved so far, and I want it to stay that way. Thanks. [EDIT: I should also note, for those of you who look at this challenge and think that there's no way that you can place in one of the top spots, that there are also a good number of distinctions that no one has even tried for. Those are definitely worth getting, and they would look good on your KSP achievements list too.]
  12. This would be a great thing to put in KMC employees' signatures! Though I don't view it as very "Logo-ish."
  13. Hello! I'm back. A few notes on the flight that I did and on the competition in general: >I lost a lot of time over the course of my run. I probably could have completed the challenge 10-15 seconds faster, if I was a god and/or Aphobius. >Speaking of Aphobius, I didn't mean to offend when I posted the theoretical best time of 0:30. The reason that I originally posted that was that in every single KSP speed-run challenge that I have ever completed, I take almost exactly twice the time that the winner does. I wrote that comment immediately after my 0:59 run. (Also, thanks for the parachute-deceleration idea. I'm using that.) Which brings me to: >Parachutes are a really good idea for this challenge, while trying to get through the smallest bridge! They will cut your time for that bridge in half. (Thanks, Aphobius!) >It seems to be fastest and most efficient running the bridges from smallest to largest. If done properly, one can execute a smart half-loop after passing through the medium-sized bridge and plow through the largest one without losing any speed. (This, however, is just my opinion and may not end up being correct.) >Also, it may be faster to fly through the medium-sized bridge and then immediately back up through the same bridge, if your craft can turn on a dime. I'm looking at you, VTOL flyers! This is actually worth experimenting with, though my gut feeling is that it would tear the craft apart. I'm going to break out some Mainsails now, if you don't mind. Be back in a second. I would say that any rule along those lines is open to abuse (I'm thinking of "carpets" below the bridges here, and I think you may be too), so I'm going to say no on this one. Sorry. (I'll add this to the rules.)
  14. Noted. I'll probably change the blast patterns to indicate a rather hard, unpowered landing, thanks for notifying me of this. Also, I have a habit of adding too many parachutes as well. My slowest descent speed on parachutes alone was 1.4 m/s with a rather large, six-Kerbal craft. (Don't ask.) ...and now for something completely different! I decided to do a little something for the KMC (Kerbal Minds Corp.) thread on the Rocket Builders subforum, because ZooNamedGames was asking around for logos. I tried to capture the spirit of the thread, and I think I did it pretty well. Not debris, but still a fun little pencil drawing to look at whilst I complete Avera9eJoe's drawing.
  15. I cleaned up the background a bit and removed the bar. I'm so glad that you liked this
  16. The Kerbal Minds Corp. is a really great group, but almost no one has probably heard of them over here in the Fan Works section. So don't worry about any lack of interest in this section of the forum. I'm not entirely sure if I'm up for an anthem, and I'm pretty sure the old KMC image is better, but I spent a little while drawing this. I hope this isn't too far off of what you wanted. [EDIT: Sorry for the thin black line on the left side of the picture. I'll clean it up with MS paint and repost in a little bit.]
  17. I've actually completed the challenge with a reasonable time: 0:59, using Aphobius's parachute-slow-down method! I think that when properly piloted, this plane could, maybe, break the current record of 0:48. (My run was actually surprisingly poor.) I'll add some comments and post this on the leaderboard later.
  18. I'm going to enter this... I have a reasonable idea of what my tug will look like and how it will perform, but I haven't built one yet. Spoiler alert: Docking ports. All of them.
  19. I should probably post pictures of my works-in-progress, so that the people that requested them can see what's going on. Here's Avera9eJoe's drawing so far (with none of the shading but the basic setting laid out): If this looks good, I can continue from here, or if you want something to be different, I'm very open to suggestions. It's funny. Whenever I see three objects arranged like that, my brain screams, "STILL LIFE!" and I subsequently draw the craft as such. Still not sure if that's a good thing. [EDIT: This drawing has no shading and isn't even close to complete, so expect a bit more out of this in the future. ]
  20. I think that this belongs in the Fan Works section. That being said, from a guy who learns almost everything he plays by ear (I'm a violinist), this is wonderful! Nice job, looking forwards to hearing more
  21. Let me just say that when I first envisioned this challenge, I thought that the hypothetical top speed for completion was around two minutes. Now, I think that it's probably about 30 seconds if someone has a "perfect" run. The fact that this challenge could be completed four times faster than I originally thought speaks volumes about the creativity and quality of the designs here. Also, interestingly enough, this is a very different route than most other people have been taking, and it seems as if it's a shorter one in terms of distance. Maybe something to consider in the future? I'll add this entry to the leaderboard in a bit. Mind=blown.
  22. One of my threads has been Stickied?! Thanks so much, Sal_Vager! I wasn't expecting this at all... if I was, I probably would have spent more time on the tutorial
  23. Dredging this up as it's still relevant. Since the last post, the US lost a match, and other things happened too!
  24. I've finally managed to update everything, which is good news! I'm going to start off with Avera9eJoe's image of his rescue mission, followed by an image PM'd to me by SelectHalfling0, and then the image that Joshwoo69 promises to deliver. I'll subsequently do drawings in the order that they were sent in, which means that it may take a little time for me to fulfill requests. But I will try to draw everything sent in to me, as long as it is in accordance with the rules on the OP. (oh, and no Kessler bombs please.)
  25. 6/10 A little disjointed, but pretty informative and has good sources. Also, what about your ADD?
