Hello everyone! First of all, thanks for all of the +Rep that I've gotten through this thread. I really appreciate your support. GusTurbo gave me some reputation and asked whether it would be possible to use one of my songs in an upcoming video. As long as you mention me in the credits, I'm more than happy to have people use my songs. You don't even really have to ask, but thanks for doing so. Thanks for the audio converter file, DuoDex! I actually think that I'll be alright, though, as I'm now capable of changing file types, etc. on an editing program on my main computer. I've had the program for years but I've never used it. It makes a handy file converter. I'm currently laying out the themes for each planet. The songs I'm making right now are likely going to be played on the surface of the planets for the initial release of the plugin. After that, though, I will probably add some songs for moons, as well as songs representing SOI change, orbiting and/or aerobraking. That may be too much work for what it's worth, so I may not have as many songs. We'll see. Tw1: I'm definitely going to have some derivative of the main KSP theme for Kerbin, though I'm probably going to make a new song for that (the old one is a bit gloomy/suspenseful, which isn't what I would be going for). Speaking of gloominess, Dres isn't going to be appallingly sad or lonely. It is, however, the saddest of the three pieces I've done so far. DUNA is interesting. It's reminded people so far of *deep breath* Celtic music, sea shanties, country music, music from the TV show Firefly, and now Legend of Zelda music. I'm not sure how that happened, as I wasn't really going for any of these things. It was originally based on a song that Nassault has used several times, and you can hear the referenced part in the second half of Jeb, among other places (check the OP for this). I gave it enough spin, however, that the original song is recognizable but the tone of the song is very different. CavemanNinja: Wow. I would love to have this backstory in the game, though it sounds like it's not going to happen (not in stock KSP, anyway.) That being said, I wouldn't mind making a song for being out past the orbit of Eeloo, though it probably won't happen until I've made songs for the planets and moons. So, expect the song to come out on the future, fi maybe not in the near future. Thanks for enlightening me! Thanks for the favorable comments!

Change it to what? "KSP Songs For a Plugin that is Being Made! (Current Song: EVE (the planet)"? I know that EVE stands for a very nice little add-on to the game, but ever since DUNA I've been trying to keep the planets' song names in all caps. I think that, given the context of this thread, it's obvious enough that I wrote the song for the planet. If I was doing songs for plugins, RSS would be near the top of my list Anyways, I'm still playing around a little with the structure of DRES, though I'm actively recording it. It will be really lonely and gloomy, and from what I've done, it will likely be DUNA-quality or better. I'm trying to give Dres a little extra love, because it is all alone and never has anyone drop by for a visit. In other news, I've come up with a nice little melody, but it's quite military-sounding. It's quite sad, though. I'm not entirely sure whether I should use it for Moho... or whether I should have it play when a Kerbal dies, almost like the Kerbal version of "Taps." I could probably also use it for RSS, but that's for another day. A metaphorical penny for your thoughts...?

Maximum impact velocity
BagelRabbit replied to thereaverofdarkness's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I'll have a stab at this when I get back home. I can regularly hit the ground (completely unintentionally) at 900 m/s on Kerbin, using an infiniglider. I could probably get it up to 1300 or 1400 m/s, if I was careful and did a lot of trial runs. I'm pretty sure that if you're dealing with stock parts and no debug menu, infinigliders are the way to go. Infinigliders can be ridiculously powerful and, quite frankly, obscenely terrifying. I'm thinking of using method three in this video: get to a good speed, turn on SAS, and... glory. It seems to maintain a relatively good amount of stability unless you travel at a ludicrous speed. Or unless you switch control to the lower infiniglider, in which case everything becomes terrifying. (Even more terrifying, I should say.) Also, would you count the collision shortly after 1:10, at 345.9 m/s, for the time being? Does a VAB collision count? -
KSP makes people mistake you for a rocket scientist

<snip> I have a volunteer job as a docent at a major museum. One time, this twelve-year-old kid came in and asked me which of Saturn's moons had the highest eccentricity, with the "lowest periapsis" and the "highest apoapsis." (Of course, this impressed all around him, as he's spouting these terms that aren't in the general vocabulary, and he understands them.) I asked whether he played KSP. Of course, he did. KSP may "just" be a computer game, but it is a crash course in physics that's remarkably accurate and quite powerful while still being very, very fun. Good stuff. -
No aliens here, just good ol' hardworking KSP players! What? You say I have seven eyes? Better get my ray gun out before there's a "disturbance." Now, I'm as big of a fan as anyone of adding fanworks into the stock game. But, I'm also actively developing this music for use in a plugin, not for stock KSP. If my songs make it there, I would be flattered beyond belief, but that's not my eventual goal when creating this music. A big thanks to Wooks, though, for supporting my music and for proclaiming that #thisshouldbestock. I appreciate it. PEOPLE HELPING WITH MUSIC: UpsilonAerospace (violin) Avera9eJoe (percussion) General Rarity (cello [maybe], suggestions) Sorry that I didn't make EVE with tuba accompaniment! I was [spoiler!] saving that for Jool. Let me know if I missed anyone. Doing Dres next, should be out this weekend. Stay tuned! (heh, tuned! Get it? Oh, never mind.)

I'm still thinking that the initial release should have a single piece of music for landing on the Mun, Minmus, and every planet and dwarf planet around Kerbol. Moons other than the Mun or Minmus can have their parent planet's song playing upon landing. Thoughts on this? Should I approach this in a different way? (I literally have no idea what's going on, or what I should do.) Speaking of which, should the song play immediately upon landing, or what? I'm a bit wary of songs being played as soon as a ship touches down, because I frequently bugger my landings and hop into the air a little bit. This would cause the music to start, play for a fraction of a second, stop as the vehicle left the ground, and start again, which would be a little strange. Maybe the plugin would wait for a second or two to be sure that the craft was fully landed, or only play music when the ship had landed and the engine was off. Again, no knowledge of programming, so there may be a nice way to do this that I'm not thinking of. I'm (more or less) done with EVE, which is just a Spheres of Legend rehash. Here it is: Let me know what you think. I'll include the download link in a little bit, though I don't think that this is as good as DUNA. It's certainly different.

Dragonfly VTOL! (Looks like a dragonfly.)
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
"Most magic tricks are not actually magic. Technically, they are sorcery." -Space Core, Portal 2 (is it a bad thing that I know many Space Core lines by heart? I hope not.) I'm currently in the middle of a half-hearted effort to upscale the Dragonfly. It's not working very well... I think I'll scrap it. That being said, while I'm showing this craft off, do you have any suggestions for other animals that I could create? (I've already done a dragon and a dog.) Thanks -
The Three Bridges Cup!
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
That shadows look a little strange, but that control surfaces are not clipped, they are just the shadows from the control surfaces from above. You could add that leaderboard, but I think you've forgot my light class. Congrants on a nearly unbeatable flight. The reason that I didn't include you in the light-craft division was not because I was forgetful. Rather, it is because you must show the mass of the craft if you're going for the Light or the Heavy classes. Because you didn't do this, I can't put you down for the "Light" class. As soon as you present me with a screenshot, I'm more than happy to give you the distinction. I'm adding the alternate scoring method now. Also, I want to experiment with the RCS engines... could they allow even faster speeds?! -
Can you specify whether the SSTO is supposed to be stock, and whether part-clipping and air hogging are allowed? There are plenty of ways to make an absolutely microscopic SSTO if you clip together a large number of air intakes. Does part count or size even matter? I could make a 350-part behemoth weighing dozens of tons, and still get the same score as I would with a very small craft. Does flying Kerbals count for extra points? When you say "going to" planets, do you only have to enter the SOI of planets? Must you orbit, land, or return? Do you get any additional points for performing any of these actions? How does a 1-point post rating differ from a 200-point post rating? Should a proper post review really put you at the head of the leaderboard? (The maximum amount of points I can see from a good SSTO is 95 points.) This challenge has good intentions, but it has a lot of loopholes that need to be filled. That being said, I just made this SSTO the other day. It doesn't do much, but it's a good place to start.

I would like to approach this kinda like what you said... I think that one of my first priorities, however, is making music that plays while landed on a certain object. After those tracks are done, it would be nice to make tracks that play in atmo, if these tracks are needed at all. Probably the last thing to do would be the "orbit" tracks, as there are already some reasonably good generic orbital tracks in the game (though they're not specific to any planet). Understood. Adding dynamic tracks would be really cool if we could get it to work properly, though. Would you consider dynamic tracks as an eventual goal to work towards, or as an unfeasible plan that probably shouldn't be pursued? I would recommend starting with a single piece for each planet, along with the Mun and Minmus, that plays when landed. This won't be a very large load (nine pieces counting Dres and Eeloo) but it will be a very solid start, and will be pretty easy to build off of. Just my $0.02 here. (I personally also want a distinct track for the VAB and for the SPH, along with the "special locations" that you've mentioned.) I do think that we need all the musicians we can possibly get. As cool as violin (or percussion) is, it would get old after a few pieces. I've been experimenting around with the KSP theme a bit as well, sometimes to extremes... I made this piece a little while back. It's a bit of an experimental thing. (You know, looking back on this, some variation of this original theme would go pretty well with Jool. ) Keep those thinking caps on, folks! I think that if we can pull this plugin off, it will be awesome.

Dragonfly VTOL! (Looks like a dragonfly.)
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
At long last, it is here. Dragonfly .craft file! Let me know how it flies, and happy testing! (I'll also provide the link on the OP.) -
Hello, everyone! So, a couple of days ago, Blizzy78 said that he would be happy to make a plugin for KSP showcasing my songs. Needless to say, I was thrilled. However, if such a plugin is made, I'm going to need to create somewhere north of twenty pieces! As a result, I'm changing the focus of this thread. Instead of being focused on one specific piece, it will instead showcase a variety of the pieces that I make for this plugin. If you play an instrument well and want to help out, please PM me. (I'm already going to use the talented Avera9eJoe for percussion.) ...and if you have any ideas of what "style" to use for certain planets' songs, I'm very open to suggestions there. I'm looking forwards to this... wish me luck!

Dragonfly VTOL! (Looks like a dragonfly.)
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Hello everyone! Good to see that the Dragonfly is pretty well liked. The reason that the tail seems short, so far as I can tell, is that it's relatively thick compared to the overall Dragonfly. A thinner tail would look a bit longer and be a bit more realistic, but it would also be quite a bit more part-heavy. I was trying for minimal part-count with this design... the result came out to under 100 parts but that's still quite a few, considering the Dragonfly's miniscule size. Thanks for the +Rep! I actually made a YouTube video with a few other craft in it, but the entire second half of the video was devoted to Dragonfly-flying. Note that the craft is missing its RCS-port "eyeballs" but is otherwise exactly the same as the initial pictures. Also note the way that it lands. That actually took a long while to figure out, but I think that the result was quite cool, even if it means that the craft isn't a "true" VTOL. Thank you! I really enjoy some of the VTOLs that you've created, yourself. I think that building VTOLs is one of the most challenging, and the most rewarding, parts of the game. Oh! By the way! Andrew Hansen said that he was inspired by this craft to create a massive VTOL SSTO Dragonfly! Stay tuned for that... I'll post a video link as soon as it comes out. .craft file coming later today, I promise! -
The Debris Series [Now Taking Requests!]
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP Fan Works
At long, long, long last, I think it's done. Here's the completed image, unless SelectHalfling0 wants me to add something on there. Thanks for sticking with me, guys! I'll try to crank out a few more drawings this week. If you have any suggestions for drawing, now's as good a time as any. Just be sure you send in a picture. -
It should be free, as I put the download link in the OP. Still waiting for someone to test it out and make sure it's okay though.
-
Don't forget Dres! Never forget Dres! (and Eeloo, too.) I really like your takes on some of these planets, they weren't quite what I was expecting, but very neat.

This thing just got Stickied. My god, this is unbelievable. Trying to convince myself that this is real, and not just some sort of dream. Thank you so much for your compliments and suggestions, everyone! I really appreciate it.

Dragonfly VTOL! (Looks like a dragonfly.)
BagelRabbit posted a topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Hello once again, Individuals! After the enormous success of my Dragon-shaped KSP craft, it was time to test my skills with an (arguably) more difficult piece of subject matter: a dragonfly. Yes, for this design, I had to make a small craft that could VTOL and yet fly safely, and that was very small. And that was shaped like a dragonfly. Challenge accepted. After some hard work... here's the result. It doesn't look too bad, it flies really well, and it does have VTOL capabilities!* *The takeoffs are well and truly vertical. The landings, if done right, can be at less than 4 m/s horizontally, which is close enough to a vertical landing in my book. .craft file! Here are some pictures of the Dragonfly. I may add more, depending on whether I can get any good ones. Testing out the Dragonfly's landings by putting it on top of the VAB Helipad... Success! Here's a nice picture of the Dragonfly up above KSC, looking down upon the world below. While the Dragonfly is an infiniglider, you probably shouldn't fly it at more than 50 m/s (instabilities happen if you get too fast. Hooray for backflips!) so most of my testing has been around the Kerbal Space Center. It should work at any altitude and could probably even fly on Duna, if you're careful. Also, sorry for the unsightly linear RCS ports. There's really nowhere to hide them with a craft of this small size. RCS was the only way that I could get a craft of this size to be a VTOL, given my somewhat limited skill in these areas. Let me know if you have any questions! Enjoy flying the Dragonfly! -
I actually think that the downscale might work better for my purposes. Keep in mind that with most of my smaller designs, a jet engine would be ridiculously large and unwieldy. I could, however, wrap the engines around a smaller fuel tank or even a strut, for a tiny little aesthetically pleasing design. This may not be "broken" after all. I'm going to see what I can do with it.

Officially In A KSP Rut (PLEASE SAVE ME FROM MY BOREDOM!)
BagelRabbit replied to Acemcbean's topic in KSP1 Discussion
(Getting back to stock KSP - ) Inspiration, GO! There's a good chance that some derivative of the following three craft will keep you happy for weeks. :3 [EDIT: The three ideas presented here are VTOL building (especially tiny VTOLs), land-speed-records, and making craft shaped like animals. The third one is a whole load of fun as long as you don't mind having your first couple of animal-shaped craft turn out suboptimal. Don't worry, you'll get better. Also, VTOLs are really, really awesome, especially if you can build them properly.] -
The Debris Series [Now Taking Requests!]
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP Fan Works
To be honest, no. I just finished my summer semester at college (wish me luck as the professor grades the final papers!) so I haven't been able to draw anything. I'll probably put the final touches on SelectHalfling0's drawing over the weekend, though I shan't make any guarantees. After that, it's on to Joshwoo69. I will get done with everything, even if I'm moving at the speed of Congress. -
Not bad, SpaceSphereOfDeath! I still personally prefer your version of "Kerbin" though, it's really nice. Sorry if I seemed harsh in my critique, by the way. I just was trying to be honest, and to give you things to improve on. Still wondering whether the download link works. Also, some people on my YouTube channel have said that they want an iTunes file of this, but I'm not entirely sure how to make one work. I barely know anything when it comes to posting music, despite the fact that I make plenty of it. That's never a good combination. If I find a way to make an iTunes download (or if some kind soul tells me how), I'm going to put the link to it on the original post.

Hello! A couple of quick notes on this song (heh heh... notes... get it? oh, never mind) I recorded this on a Macbook laptop with Garageband. I recorded it in a quiet room in my house. No recording studio here! I actually played all of the tracks except the bass line. I am relatively decent at violin. The percussion was me hitting the table that the laptop was on. All in all, this was an immensely low-budget affair. I'm really very surprised that it turned out sounding like anything reasonable, at all. Can anyone tell me whether the download link is working? That would be much appreciated.
