Vagani Car Manufacturers- Get Inspired- Final Challenge
BagelRabbit replied to Vagani's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Official Video for the Kerbswagen Pillbug is up! Still waiting on the craft file, as timewarping up and down causes Bad Things to happen. I'm going to make the official post releasing the craft file in about a day. What hype! Here's the video, showcasing a bunch of the car's features. Top speed is up to 23 m/s, due to a different distribution of mass and Four-Wheel-Drive toggle (uses the "4" action group, how appropriate). 11+ m/s crash tolerance, as seen at the end of the video. Good control at 2x warp and above, with epic drifting possible at 3x warp and above. Still really cute. I'm not sure this one will win, but I hope you have fun with it, Vagani. I'm relatively new to car-building, so it might not have all of the kinks worked out of it, but it's still got a good "look" and is exciting to drive. In my book, that's worth a good deal. -
Heh. It seems that most people don't know much about Coub, and those who do don't like it. Note to SQUAD: a Coub competition seemed like a good idea, but I don't think that anyone wants to do one after this is over.

The Debris Series [Now Taking Requests!]
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP Fan Works
I'm definitely going to have fun with this one. You know the little plus-sign-looking-things on many of the Apollo pictures? ...yeah, I'm going to use them. ALL OF THEM! Added you to the requests. Still going to work on Kookoo_gr's request and Sylandro's request first (and maybe Joshwoo69's, but he seems to have deleted his image) but I'll get to yours as soon as time allows. I really should work on the Debris Series more often, but I'm also working on KSP plugin songs right now (see signature) and boatloads of schoolwork. Sorry about all these delays... I hope you'll stick with me -
Submitting this little guy. It's really cool! You should probably watch the video. ...the Kerbswagen Pillbug! It's got brake lights! It's got high beams! It's got a trailer hitch! It's got boatloads of ElectricCharge! It's got rearview mirrors! It's got an antenna! It's got four-wheel drive mode! (hey, still less repetitive than the OP.) Oh, and it actually drives well. What more do you want?! ...maybe for it to look more like a buggy and less like an actual car. Ah well. Download link coming soon! So much Hype! Enjoy the show.

I would have loved to add bagpipes, except: 1: They're not really Irish/Celtic, they're actually Scottish. 2: I don't know how to play the bagpipes. I try to play the main melodies of these sorts of things myself. Interestingly, if you use this music for a future video, my music will have been used by YouTubers ranging from HatBat (with his gorgeous cinematics) to you (with your sidesplitting, not-very-cinematicey videos). Funny how life works.

Heh. I make a load of YouTube videos, in spite of this: A solid F, at .22 mbps uploads. Hooray for DSL!
-
Celtic Jeb. (I know how to play the violin.) Play for festive occasions.
-
H'm, you're right. I wasn't inspired by Firefly when making Celtic Jeb, but I like their music I'm glad yeh like it, laddie. This actually sounds a bit like something that Xacktar would use in his videos! Here's to hoping...

The Debris Series [Now Taking Requests!]
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP Fan Works
It's fine, don't worry about it. Do you have any other pictures of debris that you want to send in? -
Hi all! I'm wondering what the popular sentiment on "Coub" is (after all, many people are now using it.) Do you like it? Do you dislike it? Is it your new favorite site, or would you be happier if it shriveled and died? Opinions, please! My personal opinion: Coub isn't bad, but it could be a lot better. It has slow upload times (10s of content taking 15 minutes to upload?! Come on, guys!), the editing program has never actually worked properly for me, and one of my loops (and I only uploaded two!) is weirdly cut off in standard definition but runs normally in HD. I would have preferred for KSP to have waited for some of these problems to be fixed before having a coub competition, as I'm sure I'm not the only one having them. Just my two cents, though.

Second coub. (Still trying to keep this thread alive... after all, it was the original coub thread! More importantly, it has large green text at the top, which means that it should be posted on whenever possible.) Silly physics. Even when you decide to break, everything will still be going nicely. SO... VERY... NICELY... [EDIT: I'm not sure why, but the full coub loop doesn't work unless you're in HD. (At least, this is the case for me.) If you get the reference that I made in the last line, you're seeing the entire coub. Otherwise, switch to HD. ]
-
Newest Coub! Everything is going very, very nicely in this coub. Also, physics! Unfortunately, the music doesn't loop too well... [EDIT: Is anyone else seeing this coub as a much shorter loop than it should be? You should be seeing some red coloring at the end of the "Proper" loop... spoiler alert.] [EDIT EDIT: Putting the Coub at HD resolution seems to fix this.]

KD Anti-Manley Suborbital Hop
BagelRabbit replied to ihtoit's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Video is here for my mission, despite nobody asking for it. Infinigliders make the thing accelerate tremendously when it's really supposed to be slowing down, both on the way up and on the way down. Unfortunately, the thing shreds at a "scant" 2500 m/s in the lower atmosphere, but fortunately, everyone seems to love explosions. So it's all right. This is probably the most novel and low-thrust way that this challenge has been accomplished, despite it being rather slow. At the very least, I want an honorable mention -
KD Anti-Manley Suborbital Hop
BagelRabbit replied to ihtoit's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Do we get points for low mass or low fuel consumption? I only completed the challenge in about 3:25, but I did it on a single LV-T45 engine, which I think should count for something. 100% stock, no debug menu, no editing parts. (This thrust is approximately a hundred times less than the current high scorers', and much less than any of Scott Manley's attempts.) I'll post the video, if anyone wants to see it. It utilizes some clever strategies that would probably further improve the winning times. -
7/10 True, true. But what trolls/nutjobs are actually going to read the thing?

Time to overanalyze. The craft in Spore travel interstellar distances at about two parsecs a second: roughly seven light-years per second. it takes roughly three seconds of in-game time to destroy a planet with Planet Buster. Assuming that the spacecraft travel at nearly the speed of light when going interstellar, the "real-time" duration of an interstellar trip is seven years or so. Thus, a Planet Buster would take (7x3/2) years to destroy the planet: about ten and a half years. You could probably get every single Kerbal off of the planet in this time, provided that your rockets were high-capacity and that there were many of them. HOWEVER: Once the ships were in space, they would lack the acceleration or the weaponry of ships in SPORE. Furthermore, they wouldn't take damage as well, because the damage system in SPORE allows for a lot more of a pummeling. The ships would be sitting ducks for the Grox. The only hope for Kerbal civilization would be that the Grox's artificial intelligence, as programmed in-game, would tell it to leave. This is certainly a possibility, because in SPORE, ships that survived their planet's explosion generally become "Pirate" ships, and the Grox don't seem to mind that class of ships (I think). The Kerbals would have a difficult go of it, but they would survive. They really couldn't offer up any resistance, though. I really, really hope that no one tries to do a more detailed analysis than this.

Jatwaa: I'm not entirely sure why you're posting videos here. Some of your videos are really quite nice, but they're not really supposed to go in the Fan Works section. There are several places where videos are supposed to go. The "Live From Mission Control!" subforum is used almost exclusively for posting videos. If you want to showcase your craft (this often includes sharing craft files), the Spacecraft Exchange may be a better place to go. The "Fan Works" section is generally used for artwork, writing, music, and heavily edited or not-in-game videos, as well as other, more "creative," things done by forum members. There are two other subforums where your work would be more appropriate. Either of them would be more suited to your videos. I say this because your posts are responsible for about half of the content marked as "Special" in this subforum. The "Special" designation is given to things that don't fit into the other designations given for prefixes. Sometimes "Special" tags are needed (there's no tag for "Music," for example) but much of the time, things marked "Special" would go better in a different subforum. This is a shame, because some of the things marked "Special" are really special, but others are just mismatched. So, what would I do if I was in your shoes? I would move my future activity into the "Live from Mission Control!" subforum, or maybe the Spacecraft Exchange. If you are posting regular content, I would also consolidate your videos into a single thread; after all, there's really no reason to make over a dozen completely separate threads with very similar content, and putting all videos in a single thread helps you grow your subscriber base and viewership without cluttering the forum. I really like your videos, but I don't like that you're posting them in this subforum, and that you're making a completely separate thread for each one. I would really appreciate it if you could take this into consideration. I'm sorry for any inconvenience, and I don't mean to offend.

Fertilizer, I think. This is an announcement from your neighborhood spoil-sport: Please, please, please don't make R-candy. It's quite dangerous to make, even more dangerous to use, and absolutely pointless. It has a terrible Isp, even worse than the normal black-powder rocket engines that aren't even that expensive. It often develops asymmetric thrust or explodes during flight. Oh, and it's illegal. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that you should be making this stuff. Please stop. I'm sorry, but I don't want a fellow KSP-er losing fingers (which has happened) or setting his house on fire (which has also happened) just for the sake of making some pretty ineffective rocket fuel. Why are you doing this?!

Vagani Car Manufacturers- Get Inspired- Final Challenge
BagelRabbit replied to Vagani's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Mine would have been done now, if it wasn't for Mr. Wheel. He pops up and down at 3x warp and above, which causes no loss of control or lack of stability, but is rather annoying. When I'm trying to create a very realistic craft, it's a little bothersome if one of the wheels merrily pops up and down, with utter disregard for anyone or anything in the world. I'm thinking I should just let Mr. Wheel do as he wishes, because I can't find any other way around it. Coub: -
Maximum impact velocity
BagelRabbit replied to thereaverofdarkness's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Um, I think I win. Using a design similar to this one... ...I got an impact velocity of an impressive 35,778 m/s on Kerbin. (I hope water landings count.) I think that I got a higher speed than every other previous attempt combined. This is not necessarily a good thing. I could easily try several more times and get the best run of the lot. I know this thing is capable of going faster because the "highest speed recorded" was 54,933 m/s at about the same altitude, so this thing is certainly capable of more. Ah, the joys of infinigliders. They may have to be banned from the competition, they're so effective at getting obscenely high velocities. -
Thanks, you guys! I appreciate the kind words I don't entirely know why everyone thinks that my songs resemble the songs of Firefly so much (and this isn't the first, second, or even third time time I've heard this), but somehow, they do. I don't think that's a bad thing, it's just unusual, considering I've never watched a single episode of Firefly. Anyways, I'm off to rocketry now. See y'all in a bit.

Eve and Dres finally, finally, finally have their own mp3 files. [EDIT: I think I've got it. Did that work?]
