KSP2 Release Notes

This. I was initially going to warn about the ever-later release date for this, as RIC has, but now they've got O'Reilly publishing it things look much more positive. Despite the speed with which new versions of KSP are being released again, now that the long Unity engine-change is complete, I think that there's a place and need for such a book. I wish them luck and may well buy it myself when it eventually comes out.

Looking for mods: most interesting&novel mods in KSP?
Pecan replied to Reusables's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Sadly no longer supported, this was always my favourite novelty set: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/53486-024-bargain-rocket-parts-v11-bust-out-the-duct-tape-were-going-to-space/ SCANSat is best for anomaly-hunting but you might consider that 'famous' (if not, why not!?). Same goes for Raster Prop Monitor and all its dependencies when it comes to IVA work. Beyond that Action Groups Extended, Kerbin Konstructs, Kerbinside. -
Yes, it's in the tracking station. Select the 'vehicle' in question from the list on the left, the 'i'nformation button then shows on the right. Click that for the vehicle's information, including type and name. Once it's selected though, it's easier just to click the 'terminate' button at the bottom and be done with it.

Idea of When Server Migration will be complete
Pecan replied to Leafbaron's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Just tried the store and it's working fine. But - Win64 patch? Since the Unity update it has been native 64-bit, that was, partly, the point of the year-long engine change. If you're downloading from the store you have both 32- and 64-bit executables. -
Anyone know what this option does?
Pecan replied to TopGull's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
To explain further - modders (or Squad at some future date) could make it so a 'Reliant' engine, or whatever, cost less, masses less or has better thrust/Isp when you research later, better engines. It's a realistic model of R&D - old tech is either completely discontinued or becomes cheaper/better itself to remain useful - but 'difficult' in game terms as it will make it very hard to share craft files and designs. -
I'm guesstimating 3 - 5 million sales; 1.5 million known Steam sales + (as that figure is out of date) 0.5 million since then + (about half? complete guess) 1 million store sales + (who can tell?) 1 million console sales = 4 million with the statistical accuracy of a wobbly rocket (which seems appropriate). My feeling is that it would be higher than 4 but I'm biased.

KSP Campaign Ideas Thread: A Community Developed Space Program
Pecan replied to inigma's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I wrote the Exploring the System campaign a couple of years ago; progressing from starter-vehicles to satellites then crewed across the system in a logical, rather than strictly historical, order. The focus of that was rather to explain the requirements and design of the vehicles and missions. Some time when KSP looks stable I'll update the thing. -
Can't see it myself - the rocket would have to be quite robust to work as a barge while it's being towed. Robust = heavy = not good for flying, in this case. Then it points itself at the sky, which would imply it's pumping sea-water into the rear to act as ballast = heavy = not good for flying or much else. Sure I'm missing something.

Use RCS and Main engines at the same time?
Pecan replied to juvilado's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well yes, except in this case 'because it is harder', rather than 'because the only way is hard'. No point except itself is needed - have fun :-) -

Is there any specific reason why you want to land horizontally on Minmus? -
There was a HUGE forum thread a few years ago pleading with Squad NOT to put this feature into the stock game. The point was that if individual parts didn't stay the same it would be very difficult to share craft or give construction advice for specific designs, as well as make it nigh impossible to help people who were have trouble with their own vehicles. The alternativeS ... were argued and argued about for months, without any agreement anywhere.

Woot! Thanks for making the pre-release available through the store too :-) First!
-
So there would be another challenge - or part of the same one - cheapest reusable design ...
-
There doesn't seem to be similar challenge running at the moment ... perhaps you'd like to create one? Unfortunately, I only have a lightest on-hand (6.5t, since you ask), and that's not competitive on cost, so I'll have to do some work ...

FIFY - hey, you messed-up your own perfectly good abbreviation *grin*. Thank you for playing (I'm happy as long as people are thinking about the terms they use)

Does Comms DTS-M1 "Blink Lights" do anything?
Pecan replied to Fwiffo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
My contribution to the thread being ... "I don't know, I use Snark's Indicator Lights" ^^ -
And there was I thinking it was a PolandBall thing: Rocket Can => Sideways

KSP just helped me pass an important test | Updated with work pics
Pecan replied to Sandworm's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Are you sure? There's nothing in this thread to suggest he's not in North Korea. Er, apart from the fact it's here at all, of course ... [I am kidding] -

Hoorah and congratulations. No doubt you'll soon be too busy for KSP. Remember the Six Words while you're training. -
Interplanetary Transport Tycoon: my objective is to have the most cost-effective and timely network running between every planet and moon orbit, with stations, landers, probes, etc. as appropriate. The project's running at a significant loss at the moment as it appears there are no customers in the solar system ^^.

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/forum/51-mission-reports/ is the place to put and read all the gory details. The joy of VAB is also why "first manned mission to the Mun" stories are welcomed here, unlike many games/forums where it might be met with "newb" comments ;-)
-
Quite the opposite, I was asking if you had any suggestions that would make challenges fairer for newbies.
-
Well sheeeet! a) If you're going to lay down a challenge, make sure you read and comply with the: (especially the 'is it possible' rule, otherwise it just gets really annoying). b) If you're just looking for - possibly guided - challenges, then I'd be really interested in hearing how we could, particularly, try to stretch newbies ('cause a tender rack of meat is so tasty) while staying fair. What I mean is, that a lot of things that are good and worthy challenges for newbies are also things that some of us have dedicated months of real-time to and, to be brutally honest, you wouldn't stand a chance. I'm thinking of "lightest Mun landing", "cheapest cost/tonne to orbit", "most science in one mission", etc. Curmudgeons as us old gits are, the chances are that we'd be honest enough not to participate in a challenge for "under 1000 hours" or some such; but how could we tell if someone lied? if you can think of anything you'd like to be challenged BY and a set of rules that would be fair, I'll help as much as I can. PS: A couple of years ago we had a really fun 'Advent calendar' challenge; a different mission every day during the run-up to christmas. Earlier, there were similar attempts at a challenge-chain where one mission leads to another, possibly back-tracking and branching. Those can be a really good source of variety and, who knows, maybe Santa will bring you one this year. [Does that work for 'advent'? Who the hell 'brings' advent? Gabriel?]

Yeah, as @plusck and @jedtech have said, there's nothing special about Tylo as a vacuum body, except that it will kill you. My only tips are; Twice as much fuel as you expect and F5 before starting.
