Do you feel KSP is ready for 1.0?
Wallygator replied to hoojiwana's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I've only been around since .20 - I see massive changes and improvements to the game itself, but not so much improvement in Dev and communications processes. These also need to mature and can act as a foundation for further sustainable improvement. I was not a supporter of the rush to release KSP 1.0 HOWEVER... I see the need to slap a 1.0 sticker on the box and start shipping it. Our Dev team needs to secure an independent and stable future income stream otherwise all hope is lost for any future. So Although KSP was not ready for 1.0, we needed it anyway. Yes, there will be bugs and missing features or poorly implemented bits, and yes there will likely be a few highly critical reviews, BUT there are a huge amount of new capability and features - and an equal chance for some rather glowing reviews also. Our KSP and Dev team are forcing themselves to grow up - I think we need to give them a bit of space to achieve it. And they also need to be appreciative that we will continue to do what we signed up for and that is to provide realistic feedback. -
I think these "air brakes" could be used to right a rover which has flipped.

What are the reasons for KSP not using SI units?
Wallygator replied to Instresu's topic in The Lounge
yes, totally agree: Commonality and standardisation of units of measure should be implemented - full stop. -
Its now monday. Where is KSP 1.0?!
Wallygator replied to Secret Agent Kirrim's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Speaking from the Cotswolds... Here Here! Totally agree!!! -
looks like the store site is under maintenance - good sign...

Scott Manley's 1.0 Rocket-Powered Surfboard (Airboard?)
Wallygator replied to lincourtl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
And this is typical of outsourced QA activities - especially when there is no structure to the testing. Now, frankly I have no visibility into their testing methodology - what I do see is a poorly managed bug list. When you peel that onion, you typically find minimal linkage to requirements and use case based test scripts and scenarios. I would bet a dollar that the majority of testing resources were charged with just playing the game as they see fit and reporting any bugs found. This is NOT the way quality software should be validated. -
Has anybody seen the Aero-overlay in SPH ?
Wallygator replied to SkyRex94's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I guess we need to consider all the right things Squad has done up to this point, and hope that this most recent decision regarding beta is an anomaly. -
Scott Manley's 1.0 Rocket-Powered Surfboard (Airboard?)
Wallygator replied to lincourtl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Best of luck to them. I expect there will be quite a few more buggy bits. Its highly likely that the QA team spent their time playing and balancing it rather than trying to break it. -

Someone should make a mod that tweets a vessel's dV and posts it on reddit. -
Because its likely more concerned with a "channel" of the overall KSP communications network.

The only judging going on from my point of view relates to the relatively low "Standards" that seem to apply to these streams. Like I mentioned earlier, this is advertising. It really needs to be a bit more polished. I completely agree with you that these folks are providing a service and likely are not being paid at all by Squad. They are going the best they can and full credit and a sincere thank you to them all. HOWEVER, what I think we are pointing at is more of an administrative and management issue surrounding how the streams are selected, what they focus on, and what appears to be a complete lack of common presentation standards and probably a woeful lack of pre-stream 1.0 play-time granted to the streamers - all of which could have been better addressed by Squad. I think the streamers are doing the best they can under the circumstances.
-
Same level of disappointment here also. I would have expected a bit more scripting and focus - perhaps having each streamer feature some element of the changes. I also understand that coordinating all these streaming events is not all that simple and it takes patience and dedication - so I do appreciate that. However, I think Squad would be well served if in the future they set some level of "presentation standards" which the participating streamers should adhere to. Hopefully something like that would help to improve the quality and watchability of the streams. This is advertising - It needs to be more polished.

Ore drilling/fuel refining in 1.0 : a built-in cheat, or not a cheat?
Wallygator replied to tjsnh's topic in KSP1 Discussion
if using any element of the KSP software is cheating, then the entire program should be considered cheating. Which means I need to go outside in my back garden and construct an actual rocket out of scrap - Which might also be cheating if I don't get the correct permits. IMHO ISRU (even in its simplistic implementation) is a welcomed addition to the game system. I'm looking forward to seeing how our modding community takes it to the next level. -
I agree. No confirmation regarding player control of fairing separation. I'm disappointed.

Ore drilling/fuel refining in 1.0 : a built-in cheat, or not a cheat?
Wallygator replied to tjsnh's topic in KSP1 Discussion
People! its a game. not reality. there is no cheating. you can make your own rules. The issue is more likely whether the game system mimics reality enough that it allows a player to engage in play without having to think too much about whether it make sense or not. So far, it seems KSP is on the right track. However, there are still a lot of areas where the game can be improved - specifically in those areas where critical information needs to be made available to the player. There is NO reason for Dv or other engineering info to be hidden. Kerbeas are not dumb, and the player should benefit from that. -
i've yet to see any confirmation that the fairings can be ejected in a conjoined manner. How do they eject? How are they linked?
-
These videos seem unrehearsed and poorly produced. I'm really disappointed in the quality. Still, I'm looking forward to 1.0 but these videos do not communicate a refined and completed view of a final product. Even Scott's video seems poor quality - I expect more from him.

my small sugestion for improvement
Wallygator replied to hawk_za's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Please no. When I need lens flare I watch a JJ Abrams film. But definitely more resolution and contrast. -
The End of an era aka My two cents on One-point-oh
Wallygator replied to viktor19's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm looking toward to it. The move away from early access also demands that our Dev Team up their game and improve their processes and the way they communicate. This represents a major shift and also a serious test of how well they will deliver. For they first time, the dev team will be under proper stress from the market. This can only result in improvements long term. -
Squad does not implement the concept of links as the rest of the world comprehends. They rely on the community (us) to post the links into this community hub. I don't like it, but that is the reality. (not related... I see GOG has the Empire Earth series for sale - many good times playing that with friends all over the world)
-
I see your suppositions as illogical - but only for the moment. I think you might be over reacting a bit to early. I suggest a week of patience. After that there will either be joy all around, or a number of specific items to discuss and debate regarding product quality and development plans.

Sorry for this... Really... There are no other words or music to compare...
-
There is a part of my thinking that misses the androgyny which was assumed in the original Kerbals - However, the idea of an intelligent species being able to reproduce in an asexual manner is probably beyond most of the worlds comprehension (Hence they always get male names) - so we must now adapt to PC thinking patterns. This is not problem, but still I wonder how many resources had to be spent just to deal with society's immature social and sexual perceptions. I would have rather had better part textures and memory management. Still... Squad, you did a great job with the design and rendering of Valentina and her obvious sisters. Well done. Don't turn back...
