Should 1.0 have a set release date?
Wallygator replied to moeggz's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Release 1.0 the normal way. It comes when it comes. Several weeks after 1.0 hits the community, then Communicate the date for 1.1 and use that release timing for go to market. -
I build for function in the first pass, form next not in an aesthetic sense but more for form factor (needs to fit in a...), then an aesthetic purpose. Since I just switched to RSS I'm stuck in the function cycle for a good while. ;-)

NathanKell, I bow in your general direction. And to all those who helped pull the mod together. Today I installed RSS. I don't think I can revert to stock now - sweet poison this is. I expect this will become a slippery path leading to further mod installation, but for the first time in months I can say that my general (albeit slow) spiral of boredom with KSP has now been abated. Thank you.

I cannot give you an answer, but reading your question makes me want to switch from stock to RSS. I think I'll give it a try this week.

Transmit vs Recover
Wallygator replied to whiterafter's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Transmitting OR recovery should yield the same science return for all things (except perhaps surface samples) considering the current state of stock sensor and collection equipment. However, physical returns of data and equipment for planetary SoIs should also provide higher returns of Reputation instead. -
Holy Crap! My jaw dropped when viewing the pics. Amazing work. Really amazing!

KSP 0.90 Complete Printable Science Checklist [Updated 06 Mar 2015]
Wallygator replied to JAFO's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Perhaps they will ultimately consider to shut down the wiki and forum to preserve the joy of discovery. Oops, add to that the entire internets. Lol. On topic... A great bit of work pulling this together by the OP. Rep to you fine sir! -
Sunlight is "functionally" blocked by planetary bodies already (you can check your solar panel status when you are on the dark side of your orbit) but you are correct that there is no graphical representation of the effects on a planetary surface. It would be really cool to see in game, but I can't see any added benefit to gameplay. So, I support your idea but would suggest it has a much lower implementation priority compared to other essential features that are still required. And more importantly... Welcome to the Forum!!!!

I still think a set of plastic part (unassembled) produced by a model kit maker would be so much better. Really engaging for kids and adults of all ages. Buy the parts, build a rocket and paint it. Then build it in KSP and see if it works - oh sorry, better reverse that process ;-) really - the 3D printing thing is cool, but way too over the top. Mass produced plastic parts would be magnitudes less expensive and there already exist a plethora of distributors and retail shops on-line and brick-mortor. Ok granted there would be a bit of lead time if new parts were released, etc. but that just means Squad would need to be a bit more organised in coordinating update releases - AND modders would also need access to the mould fabrication and manufacturing chain. And frankly, if you wanted to clip the parts during assembly then you would ACTUALLY clip them in real life.

.21 here. Stuck on a business trip back to the states. Bought it. Played every hour I was off work. Played all during my red eye back to the UK. The rest is history.

The Rocket Printing Hype Train Thread
Wallygator replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Its probably fair to assume that any craft file will be processed and scaled to fit inside the printing chamber so there is a maximum size for an individual print. What if you printed individual parts or subassemblies for later assembly? Can we be assured of exact scaling for independently printed sub-components of a master assembly? Only just curious, as I will likely not be using this service - All my wall space is taken up with taxidermy. Although... a Kerbal head mounted on a plaque FTW... Nice... -
The Rocket Printing Hype Train Thread
Wallygator replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
We should all pool our money and have Whackjob send in one of his designs. We will then be able to see the printer self-destruct from half a continent away. I would pay a dollar to be part of that! On Topic (or perhaps more on topic): It would have been better if they had partnered with Revell or Tamiya (or similar - you get my point) to have a basic stock range of plastic PARTS which one could order and then build your own spaceship. Only buy the parts you need, a bit of glue, paint and Bob's your uncle. 3D printing is a bit over the top frankly. -
The Rocket Printing Hype Train Thread

I just had a 1966 flashback... Thank you from the deepest bottom of my heart!!!! -
Basically, on a MacBook, if you want your fans to not run, you have to set KSP to OFF. ;-) Seriously, the fans will run like mad no matter what you do when you run KSP - always. I have started to use headphones - to seems to really help. And welcome to the KSP experience - I can attest you will loose (use) many hours of your life (which you would have normally spent doing something useless anyway - at least you can really enjoy those hours now!)

Thanks. So if a port has a part attached to it which is not another docking port, then you choose "decouple"? And if the part is a docking port then you choose "undock"? Nothing on the Wiki... no other documentation I can see - still quite confusing. I trust this will be perfectly described and clear to understand when 1.0 appears ;-)

True, very true. But I'm thinking of wider distro here. A lot of people are not going to peak under the hood of their OS or write a script to to this. My suggestion is that the game core should do it in the background as standard. Otherwise it's not an improvement suggestion but rather a gentle hack. SO... you are correct, it could be addressed by a clever custom install and an attentive maintenance procedure - but that's not what I was envisioning.

The Rocket Printing Hype Train Thread
Wallygator replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I actually like this idea. It's really good! Free for all and interesting. Print out your Jool Mothership and hang it on your office wall (sorry... or cube). Cool! -
Can we please have screen shots saved in a subfolder of the active save rather than in a common folder (as they are now)? I think this would be quite helpful for folks who are documenting and posting mission reports while running various missions in different save files. Also, I would anticipate this is a minor change so it should be easy to implement. Thank you for listening... Please discuss...

What have you learned to do without an autopilot?
Wallygator replied to Starhawk's topic in KSP1 Discussion
All of the above. Never installed mechjeb. Never. -
YESSS! I finally did it! Eve has fallen.
Wallygator replied to ShadowZone's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Any manner of round trip success concerning eve deserves a full round of quiet and reverent golf claps. Well done sir. -
This should not require a thread. It should be alreadyimplemented stock for 1.0! (Assuming licensing agreements with Russian Federal Space agency have been established if required) I support the above messages 100%.

I like to send it all up in one go. With parts which can reorient and assemble themselves

How many people fail to catch the squadcasts?
Wallygator replied to John FX's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Like a lot of folks, I'm in a completely different time zone than our squadcaster. So... Record the new feature bits, post it on Daily Kerbal. Job done. If max needs questions to answer then he should scan the forum!!! No need to wait 30 or 40 minutes for suggestions.
