  1. Looks like Rosie ODonnell
  2. I have a friend who was born on the day of the landing, her parents named her Moon.
  3. Here's the answer, I bet: http://www.spaceweather.com/ A fuel dump by the ESA rocket that launched that day.
  4. That looks like a lot of fun. That layout looks great! I have raced that Pocono with the infield in sims, bit that version is different. I also did a track weekend at Putnam Park in my friends' Boxster. It was one of the best times of my life. I ended up doing about 65 laps over 2 days. Just pure fun!! Here is a lap, I forgot to start the microphone so no sound.
  5. I love racing. I have been going to the Indy 500 for the last 5 years. Nothing like it. Also have been to Talledega a couple of times, F1 at Indy once, Kentucky Speedway for Indy cars, trucks nascars, etc. Also went to the Rolex 24 at Daytona the last 2 years. The bucket list for me contains a trip to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Nurburgring, and Spa in Belgium. Of all the races I have been to, NHRA drag racing is the most impressive to me. Nothing can compare to 10,000 horsepower x2 at the start of a top fuel dragster or funny car race! It rattles your guts and teeth!
  6. I forgot my 4-digit code to get into my office this morning. I have been there for over 2 years and have never forgotten it before. I am blaming it on my brisk climb up the 5 flights this morning, which is something I haven't done in a while. After going up the elevator to the next floor and getting into the office, I went to the restroom about an hour later and hit the code getting back in without thinking about it. Weird.
  7. That all makes sense, but the push up or down would have to be absolutely straight up or down to actually hit the station 9000 miles away on the other side of the planet. It would be such a shame to see the station move away by a few feet further every pass until you run out of air. But what a spectacular view!
  8. I would download Stellarium. You can set it to show you what you will see ahead of time to plan everything you want to view. And you can take it with you on a laptop or tablet (I believe). It also has a night mode that will keep your pupils dilated.
  9. I also have a telescope. But the binoculars are great for wide angle viewing and spotting for the scope. They are also great for daytime viewing, unlike the scope. BTW, the scope is a RV-6 from the 1960's, still a great scope.
  10. I recently bought a pair of these large binoculars:http://www.amazon.com/Celestron-71018-SkyMaster-20x80-Binoculars/dp/B0007UQNTU They easily show the 4 Galilean moons of Jupiter as well as many deep sky objects. I was amazed how well I could see the Orion Nebula! You will need a tripod, but I highly recommend these. If he does get a scope, these would make great company to it.
  11. There is a nice Zhumell 12 for sale locally for $575, I am thinking seriously about that one.
  12. Canberra is currently communicating with Voyager 2 at 1.24 light-days round trip! http://eyes.nasa.gov/dsn/dsn.html
  13. Last month I spent a couple of hours looking at the moon and Jupiter, among others, with my 60's Criterion RV-6. The views were stunning! The best I have ever seen with that scope. Seeing conditions make a huge difference in viewing the planets, so I must have had perfect seeing that night. That old RV-6 is a 6-inch reflector and it still performs great. Jupiter was brilliant, 2 big stripes were very clear across the middle, and the 4 Galilean moons were very bright. All that with a nearly full moon not very far away from Jupiter. The Moon was very good as well, I even snapped a bunch of pics using my phone held to the eyepiece.
  14. Explorer 7 is still in orbit after 55 years! Interesting.
  15. No way!!! I wouldn't even be within 50 miles of the launchpad.
  16. I have had that happen only one time in over 4 decades. I had to work all day and all night, then I had an 8:00 am meeting the next morning. After the meeting I finally went home and fell asleep. I was so tired that when things that would normally wake anyone up,(i.e. I always wake up the moment I realize that what is happening couldn't happen in reality) my body was so tired, it could not wake up. The strange part was knowing that I was dreaming and a little awake at the same time. So I just did whatever I wanted. Maybe one day I will try it again, but not sleeping at all is not fun.
  17. Nice work! I just hope you can complete it before lag causes it to be un-usable.
  18. You are missing a verb in the title of the thread.
  19. Those are impressive! Mocknizzle's looks like a Mercedes symbol.....I may have to try to make a VW station.
  20. I was in high school. We were watching on TV, we were all shocked to see it happen, and I still can picture the shock and horror on the faces of Christa's parents. I wish the TV coverage would have not shown their expressions. My brother lived in Central FL and was watching from Orlando. He was outside some store and could tell that it was far from normal. He walked in and said he thought the shuttle just exploded. Unfortunately, they confirmed it on the TV.
  21. Correct me if I am wrong, but he article says the barge is in the Gulf of Mexico. That can't be right. It must have been to the east, which is the Atlantic. Also, does anyone know how far of the coast the barge was stationed?
