  1. I would say this sums up my experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmFN9C9PVpg
  2. I would say a lot of the new found hatred for this new aero system is due to an unwillingness to learn a new system (in other words, relearn a large part of the game). Although it is definitely more of a challenge to get into orbit, I embrace these new challenges to overcome them, and learn. If anything, it breaks the routine of simply going to orbit with no problem (and it certainly breaks the unrealistic 45 degree turn at 10km method). I embrace this new level of critical thinking that comes with something as simple as putting a payload into orbit. If anything, I have become a better pilot. Some tips to help with your ascent are as follows: -Do not deviate too far from the prograde marker (even a little bit can cause the rocket to flip) -Add fins -Do not accelerate/go as fast: something that is stable while subsonic may be aerodynamically unstable when supersonic. -Reduce drag as much as possible near the top of your rocket -Experiment with different designs
  3. I would say it depends, though strongly leaning towards no it is not cheating. I often use it to hide a little bit of an engine or part inside another partially. Where I personally draw the line for part clipping to be "cheaty" would be something like clipping 2+ engines or 2+ tanks exactly together; I tend to use it to make craft look beautiful, not to "cheat" more fuel into what looks like one tank, or an engine with "twice" the amount of thrust.
  4. I am simply loving the new aero model of 1.0.x; I did not like the drag changes seen in 1.0.2 at first, but after getting used to it (learning and building etc) I am finding it is balanced rather well. Despite anything, I totally think that the 1.0.x aero model is a drastic improvement from the 0.90 model.
  5. What? Awesome!!! I thought he'd never come back!
  6. I had this exact situation happen to me, but I saw it VERY shortly in advance; I had to make a very large and inefficient burn (that led me on an escape trajectory from Kerbin) just to approach the vessel in need of rescue in time! It was quite thrilling!
  7. I just want to say, I (along with others) have recognized Squad (and the experimental team, plus everyone involved) having gone above and beyond in the 1.0 update! While there are a few minor bugs and changes that may not be welcome (ex: I LOVE the 1.0.0 aerodynamics but do not entirely like the 1.0.2 multiplier changes), the overall product is shining of the excellent work put forth by all those involved. while there is still room for improvement, the hard work and effort put forth really shows and IS recognized. So amidst some of the negativity and not-so-constructive criticisms, I would just like to thank and congratulate Squad as well as all those who have tested, experimented, and contributed in any way to the full release of the game. Great job, and keep up the excellent work!
  8. Kelvin is a very real unit of measurement haha! 0K is also known as absolute zero (the coldest anything can get). At 0K, atomic motion ceases. 273K = 0 degrees centigrade, with 1K = 1C. (What if squad simply chose to use Kelvin not because it is considered "sciency" but simply because it starts with K?)
  9. Whenever I try to use the launcher (or patcher) to update to 1.0.2 (from 1.0.0), It launches, then under "Getting login token" it displays a message in red, "Unable to authenticate with the server: Received malformed data from the server: File not found." I am positive it is not my email/password as I triple checked and tried 3 times. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
  10. So in the 1.0.1 changelog it was mentioned that, "Doing science at the flagPOLe, the north POLe, or the south POLe, will no longer mark Pol as visited with the progress tracker." I was wondering why I was getting so many Pol contracts even though I had yet to leave the Kerbin system in my new career save, heh! 1.0.1 Changelog: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/1.0.1
  11. After performing a few rescue missions, I realized that the sides of the rescued Kerbal's EVA pack displays the flag/logo from whom you accepted that contract from. Interesting little detail.
  12. I like it! A nice subtle touch of detail!
  13. I guess to go off on a small tangent, I think the medium gear should be steerable. The only other alternative way of providing steerable gear to a large aircraft would be to use the old method: Put some small gear under an ugly block sticking out under the craft. But anyway, is there something I could fiddle around with a part's file to make the wheels appear to spin or something?
  14. No, they seem to function as wheels should; they brake and they allow the plane to move. The spinning animation (or whatnot) does not work for me so the wheels always look static.
  15. Don't spin as in the animations don't spin. The wheels seem to function as they should (moving and braking), but the animation does not spin.
  16. for some reason the wheels on my medium and large gear do not spin. At all.
  17. Hi everyone, upon attempting to make a basic craft to test some new things, I noticed that the new landing gear (Medium and Large) wheels do not spin. I don't know if this is meant to be or just was not implemented? Any help would be much appreciated!
  18. Continuing Scott Manley's "10 Things To Do While Waiting For Kerbal Space Program 1.0", I would like to start a thread continuing this topic. Things to do could range from being solely in game to things to do in real life! I'll start off with a few things to do: -Either laugh or cry, depending on if you have finals ending before or after the release of 1.0 -Launch a model rocket in real life (from a hobby shop etc) -Formally end your current space programs (by rescuing/returning ALL kerbonauts and/or deorbiting stations in a glorious manner) -Attempt a last minute large scale mission (such as landing/returning from Eve, a Jool 5 mission, or a grand tour etc) -Build the largest or fastest infinitude you can -Attempt the countdown puzzles if you have not already Now lets hear your ideas of things to do in the meantime! Link to Scott Manley's Video:
  19. Ah, thank you for noticing that typo. Good catch! And interesting to know that he didn't know how to swim. Just like Jeb, he must have been a real BADA55! (like the Kerbal hex color !)
  20. Haha, I should make a series of this to join the Kerbal Air Force! I do have other WW1 / WW2 fighters!
  21. Screen shake and similar effects Such as explosion shudders/shakes etc) would add so much to the immersive properties of the game!
  22. I definitely will be (that is if i help finish moving and assuming the website is not slow/down)
  23. We could crash right through to the other side! Muahahahaha!
  24. That launch tower... That darn launch tower! How I dreaded that craft-consuming monster!
