Annoying contracts

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Is there a way to stop the game from giving me certain types of contract? While I love the 'explore X planet' or 'land X craft on X body' missions, I absolutely detest the contracts that ask me to test certain items landed/in flight or go and survey specific areas...

I'd love to know how.

I'm sorry, KrakenFour, but this is not the right area of the forum for you to post this, I suggest moving this to the "Gameplay Questions and Tutorials" Section.

In regards to your question, I don't think there is any way you can change what contracts the game gives you. You could try to decline every contract that is offered to you that you disagree with.

Again, sorry for being not so helpful, ask a moderator to move this post, though.

Salutations! :)

I believe you can edit some sort of file to change the frequency certain contracts appear (such as setting that to zero), but I do not know exactly what file/how.

Anyway, I do not really like the "test part x splashed down/in flight" etc as they tend to be boring with little gain.

I don't much mind the survey and test contracts in general, except the one I keep getting over and over: Test Mk16 Parachute at 12-something meters and 2389 m/s for a reward of like $2. No matter how many times I decline it always comes back with slightly different numbers.

And I'm tired of "Place a satellite in a specific orbit" contracts. I'm not about to go launching 50 billion pointless satellites into a bunch of stupid eccentric orbits for paltry rewards.

All Fine Print did was add more contracts (some of which are nice ideas) that get annoying, fast, because they constantly repeat. 99% of the parts testing contracts are just dumb, and while the survey stuff is OK, it's like they intentionally make them logistically hard just because. A bunch of surface stuff near one spot, then some random spot elsewhere.

Sadly, you can't yet

Incorrect. Go to GameData\Squad\Contracts\Contracts.cfg, find any entry that says "MaximumAvailable" or "MaximumExistent". If you tweak those, you can adjust the frequency of those contracts. If you set them to zero, that contract type will no longer appear.

Now, if they could just make an in-game app for that...

It'd have to be a big app! :D The amount of options in that file far supersedes simple contract amounts. You can completely customize the difficulty of each individual contract type, and how they generate, as well as the rewards they offer.

As an example, if eccentric orbits on satellite contracts aren't your thing, you can either make the random orbits rounder, or disable them entirely and opt for more synchronous and stationary orbits. The survey clusters can even be tightened up from there.

Bear in mind that the reason the game is giving you those contracts is because that's what it thinks you can do... You'll get explore planet contracts naturally, when the game has seen some evidence that you can go interplanetary (generally means get to Mun and back).

And remember that you can X the contract without accepting it, for no penalty, and a fresh one will be generated. You don't have to take everything that's offered - keep declining until you get one that you like :)

Paltry rewards? The "science from space around Kerbin" and the satellite contracts are there to help you get back on your feet when you run out of money. You can make something like 120k with a rocket that costs 5k. If you don't need the money just don't accept them.

The fun is in trying to fulfil multiple contracts with a single launch. Some of my most interesting contraptions have been made from trying to do 3 or 4 contracts at once with one ship and one launch. Not just the "test part" contracts but also multiple "put satellite in orbit ones" mixed with measure XXX in Mun/Minmus.

If fact, none satellites currently in orbit in the Career save I started the other day have had just one use - most of them started by fulfilling multiple contracts and are now in orbit to for the "Transmit science from XXX orbit" contracts. Even my first Mun manned mission fulfilled 3 contracts (testing a booster while landed, plant a flag in the Mun and Crew Reports/Take Samples in the Mun surface).

That said, it gets boring eventually, but then again by that point you're doing long range exploration contracts.
