Whackjob KSP Youtube series? Gauging interest.

Thinking of doing a quick Youtube series. Not really as far as actual missioning, but more along the lines of building. Basically taking my bag of tricks out of trade secret land and put the blueprints out there in the public domain for anyone to co-opt. I think I've finally worked around my machine not wanting to listen to the mic, so you can hear me again.

If I were to do this, what would you want to see me do?

But more importantly, would anyone care?

#EDIT: Ok, people do care haha. Episode list to follow as they come.

You must do this! for the sake of all KSPers! So long as you make a few crafts that are just insane, not computer melting...

No worries there haha. I have to build and fly AND fraps it. So I'll have to roll lighter.

I'd watch, and I'll also offer to help on any technical issues involving making the actual videos.

I wouldn't watch all 6 hours you probably take building each of your contraptions, but an edited down 20ish minute video (or several 2-5 minute ones) would be extremely cool.

Good man! Main thing is just finding an easy (also free haha) video editor. If you know of one, let me know. I want to get an intro going maybe. Nothing long, nothing fancy. The one thing that drives me nuts are youtube intros where it's like, "Here's forty seconds of irrelavent CGI accompanied by searing loud music that isn't even particularly good! Yeah, you wanna watch me play Cake Boss Legend, but only after I introduce you to this rage metal grunge tetanus band I found first."

I would definitely watch a Whackjob YouTube series.

Particularly would like to see construction tips for building big ships that are (at least somewhat) stable. Anything I build over a certain size seems to suffer from noodlification.

That'll be episode one. I think. That's the biggest advance I ever made... how to make the truly large stuff stay in one cohesive piece. I made big stuff, but once I learned those tricks, then it was like a whooooole 'nuther ballgame.

That's the rub. I bought - and just recently upgraded - VideoPad for $99 and then $39 and think it's worth every penny. Of course, I've been LPing for years so it's a bit easier to justify the cost :D They *do* have a free version (that you should grab anyway because it's only available until the 30th) but I'm almost positive that uploading to YouTube - even with no ads or anything - breaks the TOS. However I may be wrong considering the program *DOES* have a "save to YouTube" option.

There are various other video editors out there that are free but - not to go full regex on you - they're all garbage. But if you just want a no-frills, drop all the stuff together, trim it, and go option then I'd look into Windows Movie Maker. You may even already have it but if not, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-movie-maker-download

And I totally know what you mean about intros. I personally have a 7 second rule for mine, and they have to be tailored at least for the game if not for the episode itself.

First video being recomposted now into a non-gigabyte length video. Probably won't throw a header on it as is yet. Will tinker with the videopad thinkie 5thHorseman was so kind to link to. So if a header comes, it'll be posthumously. So to speak. Will imbed clip here, for the sake of feedback.

#EDIT: Okay, first episode is 30 minutes. Apologies. Uploading now. Will imbed here.

#EDIT2: Here it is. Turns out mic volume was a little low. Will fix for ep 2.

I'll try to watch this in the morning before I go to sleep. As far as volume is concerned I personally like to record myself into Audacity while playing, and then syncing it up manually with the video after.

Personally I want to see you do the things I suck at and need to learn.

  • Building planes that work well with FAR, including:
  • Various red numbers in the stability overview in the SPH and how to fix ("This number means that [x], so we'll do [y] to fix that")
  • Various stability issue when flying and how to fix ("As you can see, trying to [x] makes it [y], so we'll do [z] when we're back after test flight"
  • Use of every stock part, explaining what their good traits are. "This part is normally useless, but is excellent for [x], [y], and [z]", presuming there are no useless parts.
  • Show off various mods that are useful for building. Kerbal Engineer, RCS build aid, etc
