Squadcast Summary for 2015-04-18 - Picture Perfect Edition!

A quick word on the new cargo bays. Why have a support beam in the middle? That really limits the size of what you can put in it..

And don't say, for support..

Actually, RoverDude has said (on reddit) that the center beam has already been removed.

Okay cool.

I can see how they could cause issues with placement of things.

Though why did they show us the image of the old ones? Unless maybe they were removed really recently and didn't have time to make new screenshots for them (even though it would take all of five minutes).

Because I removed it late last night (after SquadCast) :P

Ah, makes sense then. :)

Also, question if you can answer, do they cover the full size range? I don't think there would be any 5m ones as stock ones don't go that far.

I thought the support beam made sense, and with its intention for small utility items. Some folks will want taller versions of these, if we're going down the road of putting arbitrary craft stuff in them like micro rovers. (b/c Mk2/Mk3 cargo bays have various lengths.) Thanks for your work, RoverDude!

Realistically yeah. I'm just thinking of more things that engineers could do.

I agree that itd be nice to have repaireable (or at least partially repaireable) heat shields. I know realistically ablative stuff gets destroyed after long enough useage, but i feel itd be nice to have maybee the option to convert ore into say repairing heat shields (i dont know, the ore is converted to material the shield's made of). Youd still need to get the shields resupplied, but you could even do it with the ship you are currently flying.

Anyways, im happy the storage bays removing that center beam, now i should easily be able to fit 1-2 missiles in one of those bays. While ive used cargo bays for missile storage before, these things look far more attractive for useage in smaller craft such as fighters, a deployeable missile bay thats actually smallish.

The 1.0 is gonna be so awesome! SO AWESOME!

Except those fairings. The separation looks rather like a rapid unplanned disassembly of a craft made of physicsless parts :D

But everything other is just magnificent. Dat decreased loading time! That was the main reason why I haven't played KSP for over a month (I know, shame on me). Now I will be able to!

My KSP loads in 35seconds. Just timed it. I really thought it was faster than that.. I look forward to the new quicker load time!

Lucky you! I suppose you're a stock player or you have an Solid State Drive, but It's not my case and my GameData folder is 2.1 GB big, so my KSP loads in about 4 minutes (don't remember the exact time since it's been a while since the last launch)

Yeah mostly stock with an SSD. Man, 4 minutes! I'm sorry man that must suck. So after v1 under 1min for a heavy install?

I doubt it; you can't "repair" real life heat-sheilds after use, you can only replace the ablative tiling.

How about dragon and dreamchaser heatshield?

I would prefer an dual function heat-shield, with pretty gentle aerobrakes they don't ablate, if you do jeb like stuff they start to ablate. Its pretty obvious that the spaceplane parts will be able to handle an gentle deorbit or spaceplane parts is pretty pointless. Now if you took an spaceplane to Mun and go for an direct landing on return like apollo did it will probably burn up.

I also think temperature tolerance for parts will change a lot from now so science equipment, rover stuff, landing cans and similar can not take much heat while spaceplane stuff and pods will manage more.

Have you tried using DDS Loader? It dramatically cuts load time.

Not yet. I'm a bit afraid and confused about the needed texture conversion, but I will examine it more deeply tomorrow.

But I use ATM, so at least something.

I was watching the Squadcast in the archive, and I noticed Maxmaps promised to get us an answer as to whether or not that radial decoupler issue had been resolved, as there was some sort of work in 1.0 to fix that.

He said he'd Twitterâ„¢ or forum us.. I don't see any Twitsâ„¢ from him on that subject, and I don't see any posts either..

I am very disappoint, especially as that bug basically wiped out Max's space program heh.

Dem intakes so hot :OOOOOO

And yay for the life saver, I guess...

And I wouldn't be worried much about the fairings separation being messy. They probably did it for show.

I wonder if mining asteroids will be like Space Engineers, where the rock actually collapses into itself as you mine. This would allow Kerbals to make tunnels! TUNNELS I TELL YA.

What if we could make underground bases one day.......

I doubt it. It would probably take them way more time to code it than took to prepare 1.0 for release.

Maybe let us convert ore into bricks which would be "parts" that could be stacked and curved into a half cylander or dome.
