I noticed it during one of the preview videos. It took me a moment to realize that was the fairings, not the fuel.

I like it, it's a nod to the early days of KSP! Plus it looks more like a fairing than a fuel tank, so there's that

Ah, the good ol' days.

When the KSC was located ontop of a tropical beach with palm trees and roads...

And everything was simple, no planes, rovers, Research, and just three kerbals.

When the water looked like the water at the Administration building...

And the KSC, along with the parts were a bit cartoony.

When it took no effort to overheat the rocket...

And the only person that could land on the Mun was Scott Manley.

And almost nobody knew about KSP.

Including me!

I would be happy to get a tropical biome at least in some places near the water around the equator ...

Does anyone know any more parameters for StageIcon than the wiki does?

I put the pods back on the staging column so they show a heat bar - plan on doing the same for the heatshields, but would like to use a different icon.

I dont think its an easter egg :/ . Since the old capsule and SAS stage icons are still part of the game (often seen used by mods)... I think they will change it come 1.1.
